Draco Malfoy, Summer 1996

The sun was reflected in thousand glitters on the water and Draco leaned back on the tree stem. It was a hot summer and good that he had applied a protective charm on his skin or instead his fair colouring would now be Gryffindor red in the sun. The peacocks strutted happily about not knowing anything was wrong in the world. But there were less peacocks now, not that one could see with how many resided on the grounds of Malfoy Manor but Draco having watched the Dark Lords snake eat them he knew some of them were missing.

It was a beautiful summer but it was probably the worst summer of Dracos life.
Two years ago to this day he had watched the quidditch world cub with his father - his father who now was in Azkaban.

His father always had seamed bigger then the world, Draco knew his father would protect him and give him the best position in life. But now Lucius Malfoy was in Azkaban and Draco had a task the coming school year he couldn’t imagine to actually accomplish. No matter how much Draco hated this summer for now he would enjoy the sun and a cooling gust of wind watching the peacocks and try to forget. Forget his father was in Azkaban, forget how he heard his mother crying in her room last night. Forget the harsh training his Aunt Bella was giving him. Forget that the glory of being a Death Eater meant his family was broken and he had been branded on his arm like cattle. Forget all about the Dark Lord currently living in his home.

Draco would just enjoy the sun for now, as long as he was still able to do so.
