Note
This is a Spanish to English translation. It will not be a perfect translation as some things may make more sense if they are reworded slightly. These differences will be as minor as possible to stick to the original intent (as I read it). That being said, let me know if you happen to notice he/she pronouns mix-ups or things of that nature. My eyes gloss over them after a while because I’m so fixated on the content.

The rat, the wolf and the letters.

Peter Pettigrew knew he was seen as a nobody, the shadow of Heir James Potter and the fabulous Sirius Black.

No girl asked about him; he was a simpleton compared to his friends. While they were tall and boyishly handsome, Peter was a boy hunched over to the world with an unappreciable face.

So being under the attention of a girl as sexy as Edith made him completely dizzy. Her tan-skinned, exquisite figure with a tiny waist and thick thighs cast a spell on him.

How was someone so captivating noticing him?

Seeing her hotel number written in red lipstick on his hand felt like a brand. The thin lips and the vanilla perfume he could perceive drove him crazy.

The sting in her back as her long nails trailed from his shoulders to his waist.

Dear Peter,

It's exciting to be able to keep in touch. It's fun to have a pen pal.

You should be excited to know that a special someone has been chosen for this year's Ijyi. In a few months, I will be reborn as a new shoot or, as you English call it, a New Blood.

I hope you can visit me soon. There are so many places I want to show you and places where they prepare delicious food.

With love,
Edith.

Dear Edith:

You'll be glad to know that Lily finally got her distinction as a Rune Master.

I also have news about me. I have got a job at Zonko's. Maybe I can save some money to come to visit you.

You have told me a lot about the beaches and mountains. I want to see for myself the beauty that you talk about so much about Chimborazo. Although I do not promise to participate in climbing, I was never an athletic type.

With love,
Peter.

In July, Peter was able to travel to Guayaquil to meet Edith again. He chose to go by plane; it was much easier and less conspicuous than a Portkey.

He maintained his relationship with Edith, but the letters from friends turned into something else. They were filled with affection and love.

But the war was growing by leaps and bounds, and he couldn't involve her. When this was over, he would propose to her.

Peter came out of the gates and smiled. Edith was holding a sign that said, "Welcome Peter!" surrounded by glittering hearts.

When they saw each other, she ran towards him. Her thick legs wrapped around his hips, and without thinking they were in a public space, they kissed intensely.

A scolding from a guard stopped them, Edith slipping a bronze bracelet with a rune carved on it onto his wrist.

"So you can hear everything."

"Thank you."

After that public spectacle, they took a taxi to a wizard's dining room. There was food he had never seen before and lots of coffee.

They kept talking for hours until he noticed her tense.

"Is something bothering you?" Peter asked.

"I'm pregnant, and it's yours. I'm at three months." Edith replied. "I know it's yours because, since Wales, I haven't been with anyone else. Well, that's because my parents act as jailers, and my exits are counted by hand. I know this is very serious, and I won't get mad if you decide not to take charge. A baby is a lot of responsibility..."

"Hey," Peter took her hand, "I'm not mad. That's wonderful news."

He was truthful. A part of him was happy; he would have a baby long before James or Frank.

"Are you happy?"

"I always wanted a family. And you, you're the most amazing girl I've ever met." He kissed her fingers that weren't wearing gloves, a significant difference from the traditions of his country. "Sometimes I think you're something in my thoughts because I never dreamed that a girl so pretty would notice me."

"Oh," She started to sob and removed her hands to cover her face. "There are so many events."

She cried for a while longer until she finished and wiped her face.

"I'm not supposed to have children. My doctors told me." Edith said. "They stripped my right ovary at 16, and the other one doesn't produce as many eggs as it should. So this baby is a miracle."

Peter did not hesitate to go to a jewelry store and buy an engagement ring. Of course, it wasn't common in the wizarding world, but both he and Edith had a bit of a muggle feel to them, so this was pertinent.

It wasn't as luxurious as something James would have given Lily, but Peter saw it and knew it was perfect for Edith.

At night he met Ayllu or the magical family who were Edith's magical guardians. They drank and ate and made merry; Edith laughed the whole time. The next day he met Edith's parents, brother, and grandmother, who were the only ones she knew she was a witch.

The reaction to the news of the pregnancy was strong, but they accepted it, resigned.

"We'll do this." Mr. Luzardo said. "We'll say that Peter had to emigrate to give Edith and the baby a better future. They'll believe it; the economy in this country is a disaster, especially since we're under a military dictatorship."

"After the war in my country is over, I'll come for Edith." Peter promised. "It's dangerous for Edith to be there right now."

"Can we do a hand-tying ceremony?" Edith proposed. "I communicated with Father Antonio; it would be the closest thing to a marriage."

"Sounds good to me." Edith's mom said. Peter nodded.

On November 25, 1979, René was born. Peter received the letter announcing her birth the next day, accompanied by a photo of Edith lying on a bed. Her face was bowed to a newborn baby wrapped in a rune blanket.

Peter smiled. During those months, he had been sending part of his salary at Zonko's to his fiancée and unborn child.

Peter fell to the ground in chains. On a throne was He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

"Peter Pettigrew," The Dark Lord drawled. "Your mail has arrived."

With a wave of his wand, the letters and the photographs Edith had been sending him appeared in front of him.

"A lovely family," He continued. "A New Blood fiancée and a scion. If you don't want the baby to die and your wife to be given to a pureblood, join me and be my eyes within Dumbledore's group."

Peter looked at the photo that was sticking out. It was one of the three of them, Peter carrying René and Edith with her head resting on his arm.

The chains came loose, and with a trembling arm, he held it out to the Dark Lord.

Peter couldn't stop crying. He felt like a murderer as he buried Edith's letters under the Whomping Willow.

James, Lily, those Muggles, Sirius.

He had wanted to travel to Edith and go somewhere away from it all and be a family. But what right did he have to be happy if he betrayed their friends?

How could he be a father when he had just left a little baby without a father?

He would wander the world like a rat paying his sentence.

On November 2, 1981, a cry of pain was heard in a simple house in Guayaquil.

Edith Luzardo was on her knees screaming with hot tears welling up in her eyes. Shrieks of pain caused by the letter that told her that Peter had died.

And carried in her uncle's arms, a baby of almost two years watched her mother suffer.
