prompt one; snowball fight
Regulus was going to kill Barty.
This was no idle threat, no. For Regulus had his plan laid out on a tree stump, with Evan beside him. His weapons lay on the ground beside him, ready for use at any time. His wand was held loosely at his side, just in case.
"Right. We'll attack here, you, take half of this to go from the front, and I'll ambush him from the back." He raised his head from the map, locking eyes with Evan.
Evan laughed.
Then, "Oh, you're serious."
Regulus rolled his eyes, before replying, "No, I'm not. That's my brother." Evan groaned, about to complain, but Regulus only continued, "But yes. He attacked me first, after all." He shivered at the thought, "Dumped a pile of snow right down my back."
Evan laughed again, only to fall silent almost immediately as Regulus glared at him. "Fine, fine, whatever you say, Reg." He grasped at the snowballs that were neatly piled on the ground, holding half of them in his arms before he made his way through the trees.
Regulus nodded in satisfaction, grabbing the other half of the pile, before heading to the other path. He made his way through the trees, slowly and quietly, afraid to alert his target.
Finally, he emerged into a small clearing, where he knew Barty had been sleeping. Sure enough, Barty was laying in a hammock, strung up between two trees. Strange, he thought, Evan should've gotten here first. Pushing the thought away, he set the pile of snowballs on the ground, before picking one from the pile.
He tossed it a few times, testing the weight, before drawing his arm back. "Surprise!" He shouted, right as he launched the snowball at Barty, hitting him square in the face.
Regulus watched as Barty spluttered, slowly waking up. "Wh- What's happening?" He groaned, as he sat up. Completely forgetting that he was in the hammock, he sway to one side, completely flipping over as he put all his weight on one side. He tumbled to the ground in a flurry movement, hitting the dirt ground with a shout.
"What the fuck?"
Regulus only smirked, tossing another snowball at him and hitting him in the chest this time. "Regulus!" Barty shouted, pulling out his wand, and casting a non-verbal accio, sending all the snowballs flying towards him, only to land in a pile in front of him.
Oh. Where's Evan when I need him?
Barty picked up one of the snowballs threateningly, before tossing it, hitting Regulus in the chest, and sending him stumbling back. "Why are you so goddamn strong?" Regulus demanded, waving his own wand as he formed new snowballs.
Sending another snowball at Regulus, who ducked quickly, Barty laughed. "You're the one who provoked me!" He tossed another snowball, this time managing to hit Regulus in the leg.
Regulus sent his own snowball back, hitting Barty's arm.
So it went, until Barty smirked, waving his wand at the snowballs. Regulus watched, wary, as the snowballs slowly melded together to form a giant one.
"Hold on now!" Regulus backed several steps, hands up in surrender, "We can still talk about this!"
Barty only smiled, before levitating the snowball up, and sending it flying towards Regulus. It caught him right in the chest, and Regulus fell back, landing in the snow with a shout.
Barty laughed, victorious, and he slowly walked over to Regulus, savoring his victory. He was prepared to hold this over Regulus's head for a while. That was until he was standing over Regulus, and he called, "C'mon Reg, don't be a sore loser!" He waited for Regulus to rise, but the other boy's eyes remained closed, body twisted strangely.
"Reg? Regulus? You okay?" He asked, kneeling down beside Regulus, suddenly frantic.
When there was no stirring, he started shaking Regulus, "Regulus Black! I swear, if you don't open your eyes right now-" Barty choked, tears welling in his eyes.
"Reggie, please."
He didn't notice the shadow above him until it was too late, and then the snowball came crashing down and Barty was suddenly laying beside Regulus, groaning.
"Hah!" Regulus cried, only to fall back in shock as Barty flipped over, pressing him to the ground.
Barty shouted, "You bastard! I thought you were actually hurt!" Regulus froze, before he leaned forwards, kissing Barty. They stayed like that for a few seconds, before breaking apart. Barty sighed, letting himself fall to the ground beside Regulus once more.
"I'm sorry." Regulus apologized.
Silence, then, "I'm just glad you're okay, besides, technically, I still won." Barty said, suddenly sitting up with a mischievous look in his eyes.
"You did not!"
"I so did. Don't be a sore loser, Reggie."
"Bitch."
"But I'm your bitch."
"Maybe."
"Say, where's Evan?"
"I hate my friends." Evan groaned from where he lay, upside down, trapped in a giant spiderweb. The snowballs he had been carrying lay beside him.
He sighed as he waited for someone to find him, "I'm never listening to Reg ever again. Or helping Barty attack him." He shifted, watching as the sun set slowly. He shivered, thinking he could hear Barty shouting that he loved Regulus in the distance.
"Wistful thinking," He told himself, "I'm retiring from my matchmaker position as of now.
