Author's Note: Please Read Before Reading The Next Chapter.
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone for reading this fic. It truly does mean quite a lot to me that you have taken the time to read what I have written, and that you have enjoyed it.
This is a 'Characters Reading the Books' fanfiction, but we all know the problems associated with these types of stories.
Nine times out of ten, they get taken down.
It sucks more than words could ever describe.
I am doing everything I can to make sure that does not happen here.
In order to prevent their stories from being taken down, fanfic writers have a few different things they do.
These are the ones I have seen:
They would write down the page, paragraph, and sentence number of what the characters are currently reacting to. The problem with that is that if you don't have the book in front of you, you're screwed unless you remember it cover to cover.
They write the first word of the line, followed by (...) and ending with the last word of the line. Sometimes there are a few words scattered between the two. For me personally, I usually end up in a state of 'huh?'.
They would write brief summaries of the readings that the characters are reacting to. The problem is, once again for me personally, I don't understand the meaning of brief. Hence, over 200,000 words before we actually started the readings.
I'm not judging any writers; they do what works best for them, and as the ones writing the books, that's their decision. I'm just along for the ride.
What I will be doing is taking the entirety of the text of each chapter, splitting it up into parts that will be reacted to, writing the reactions, editing them, then coming back to the actual book text and rewriting that in a way where you would know exactly where you are in the book, without being the actual text from the book.
Even though the text will definitely not be word for word from the book, text such as this: Harry James Potter, is meant to be read as if it came directly from the book.
Sometimes, very rarely and only when I need it to fit my AU, I will take text from the book word for word, and keep it in, but change a word or two. That would be noted by three astericks (***) at the beginning, and ending of the text. The words I change will look like this: ***Harry Jameson Potter***.
Just so you know Harry's middle name will not be changed to Jameson. I was just using it as an example.
Now, the reading in the book that will be completely my own, because yes, I am planning to add to chapters, and write a few of my own, will look as such, Harry James Potter.
Then, of course, there will be the flashbacks.
Lastly, there will be the silent communication.
I hope I explained myself and what I plan to do well enough.
I'll respond to all the comments tomorrow that I haven't had a chance to yet.
Enjoy the first Reading the Books chapter!
