Chapter 2

Harry opened his eyes and quickly glanced around. He was underwater, but he was pretty sure he wasn’t supposed to be underwater.

So leave the water.

So, he moved towards the surface until he encountered a barrier. He felt a pang of something unpleasant for a moment before a cool, pleasant sensation flowed through his body. A black, smoky substance seeped out of his skin and wrapped around him, and his body seemed to thrum with a feeling of rightness as he drifted upwards through whatever was meant to keep him under the water.

Another quick glance around found him in a bare, white room, with the basin, a large runic array, and two very terrified Goblins. He said nothing, only hanging in the air above the basin as he considered what to do next.

What do you want to do?

What did HE want to do? Nobody ever asked him that. They would just tell him what they wanted him to do, as if his compliance in the matter was nonnegotiable. What did he want to do? I want to sleep.

Then sleep.

Now? Harry stepped back down on top of the ward over the basin. The magic holding it together was wonderfully warm. Actually, this is nice. Can I sleep here?

Why are you asking me? What do you want to do?

…I want to sleep. Now. Here. Please.

Then sleep.

Harry promptly dropped down and curled up on his side atop the ward. Within moments he was lost to the blackness of the most peaceful sleep he had experienced in years.

Shortly after, the two Goblins glanced at each other, backing up to the wall and slowly edging their way out, never fully taking their eyes off the slumbering yokai until the ornate double doors clicked shut.

“What do we do? We aren’t exactly equipped to handle yokai.” The healer asked Griphook. The Potter Account Manager shook his head slightly.

“We alert King Ragnok” Griphook growled, pulling his copy of Potter’s inheritance test from the file. Griphook beckoned a guard from the end of the corridor and pointed to the door to the ritual room. “You are to guard this room with your life and to not allow anyone inside until one of us returns or the king arrives, and for the love of Lady Magic, do not open the door!” Warning given, Griphook and the healer turned and ventured down the corridor until they arrived at Ragnok’s chamber. The two goblins bowed low before their king, and the healer began to speak after a motion from the elder goblin.

“My King, we encountered a situation while providing service to a client. We came to ask for your input on how to proceed.” Ragnok set his chin on his folded hands and raised an unimpressed eyebrow. “Well…” The healer began, unsure. Griphook sighed.

“The inheritance test for Harry Potter showed that he was neither a Potter nor entirely human. We conducted a cleansing ritual to remove the blood glamours and power blocks, and the incomplete horcrux in his scar. Potter’s creature awakening prematurely ended the process, and he was revealed to be a…a yokai.” Ragnok gave a minute spasm at the creature the supposed Potter heir was revealed to be. Most modern humans, ignorant witches and wizards included, knew yokai as mischievous spirits; pranksters and poltergeist-like, but ultimately harmless. Those humans were stupid. Yokai were some of the most dangerous creatures to roam the world, partially because they effectively could roam unfettered. They were sentient masses of magic and malice who usually shunned and haunted humanity. Now one was here, in his territory. Ragnok held out a hand for the parchment in Griphook’s hand, and Griphook handed it over without much fanfare. Ragnok read over the inheritance test.

Power blocks, yes, those were mentioned.

Incomplete horcrux, thank the Lady it was incomplete, else it would have been a pain to find a way to ‘kill’ an immortal creature to eliminate the thing.

Parseltongue? Lady above and below, perhaps it was the horcrux involved. Ragnok wouldn’t put it past yokai magic to simply consume anything deemed an interloper.

As interesting as the boy’s powers were, any parent the boy still had ought to be notified. Ragnok glanced up at the family line, not expecting much, aside from maybe both parents would be dead. Most high-class yokai weren’t careless enough to sire children and all but lose them
