Scorpius can’t believe it. He had been forced away from Albus because his father believed he would be better off dating Polly Chapman. After everything, Draco was worried about what would happen to the Malfoy family Line. God forbid he fell in love with a disgusting Potter. Scorpius understood, he was their only son, but it still felt unfair somehow. He thought dad was better than that. After all his mother said, Draco was still the same Pureblood-loving idiot he was in Hogwarts. He shouldn’t be too upset, Polly’s an extremely pretty and popular girl, but there was the issue. She’s a girl. And Scorpius happens to like boys. Such as Albus Severus Potter.
My Boyfriend, he thinks to himself. And he would be if their fathers hadn’t been so ignorant of what their sons needed. It seems they got too caught up in their relationships to care about the ones their children had. Scorpius guessed he didn’t have it too bad, though. Albus wasn’t allowed to be caught with Scorpius; his dad thought that Scorpius truly was the son of Voldemort. Because of course, the straight-A, kind and nerdy boy would likely be the child of the dark lord. But who cares. If Albus were to be caught with Scorpius, he wouldn’t be allowed to walk around Hogwarts without a guard at his side at all times. He would have to stay home, with his parents, for the entire holiday. No meeting with friends. Ever. Harry would have his house changed, even if that didn’t necessarily follow the rules. Harry Potter wasn’t one to follow the rules anyway.
What Scorpius didn’t realize is that Albus had a plan to escape all this. He gave the plan to Delphi, and she was supposed to give it to Scorpius. She did not do so, however. This was a plot of revenge, to make sure the child of Harry Potter got the punishment she thought he deserved. She loathed Harry and all his relatives because she blamed them for her awful childhood. Neither of them knew this yet, of course.
So naturally, while Albus Severus Potter was only faking his death, Scorpius had no idea. And imagine his terror when right after learning he can’t be with his boyfriend, he has now committed suicide.
Scorpius was sitting in the Slytherin dormitory, listening to Polly talk about all the guys that had asked her to the dance, whom she rejected because of course Scorpius was waiting to ask her. Thankfully, Professor McGonagall barged into the common room, interrupting her. She looked around, then met Scorpius’s eyes. She beelined toward him, shoving small first years out of the way. He sat up straighter and met her panicked gaze. She looked older and more exhausted than usual.
“Professor? How can I be of service?”
McGonagall sinks into the chair next to him and stares at the floor blankly.
“I’m sorry. I came to report that Albus has-“She inhales shakily. “He has committed suicide.”
Scorpius looks down at his shoes, processing this. “What?” He asks, voice breaking.
McGonagall pulls him into a hug. He would be surprised, but all he could do is be still. He felt a single tear roll down his cheek, then it set in.
“How could you let this happen?” He explodes. “How could- there’s security around the schools! Surely he wouldn’t be able to do any of the teacher notices? There were probably signs! There always are! You could’ve stopped this!”
McGonagall wipes the tears off his face and meets his eyes.
“Let it all out,” She says.
“It’s his dad’s fault! This wouldn't have happened if he hadn’t been so full of himself! He separated us, Albus was so upset that he- it’s my fault.”
McGonagall cups his cheek in her hand.
“Scorpius, my love,” She whispers. “This is not your fault. Albus would want you to know that. Do you understand?”
Scorpius nods, but he still doesn’t believe her.
“There was nothing we could do. No one saw it coming. He’d been going to classes as usual, and he’d been his normal self. It was a surprise for everyone.”
“What are we going to do?”
“We’re having a funeral. We didn’t want to invite many people, but if there’s anyone you think he would want there, let me know.”
“How did he do it?”
McGonagall purses her lips.
“We’re not sure. He was found dead in his room with a wand next to him. We guess that it was magic.”
Scorpius stands up.
“Where are you keeping him?”
“The lowest dungeon. It’s freezing, so it should preserve his body.”
He nods and turns to leave.
“Scorpius, don’t-“
“Thank you. I’ll be heading out now. I need to pick up some things from the library.” McGonagall opens her mouth to protest, but he motions for her to stop. “Please. I need to do this.”
“I’m sorry,” He whispers as he leaves, tucking his knife deeper into his robes. He always carried one with him. This is not one of the times he thought he would be needing it.

Scorpius runs. Down to the deepest part of the castle, tears streaming down his face. He checks every corner but can’t find him. Until he does.
“Scorpius?” He hears. Wait. How could Albus be talking? He’s dead. No, it’s just his mind playing tricks.
But then he feels arms wrap around his neck. And it’s Albus. Alive.
“Albus? I thought-“Al puts a finger to his lips.
“Shh. I assume you got Delphi’s note?”
“What note?” Scorpius whimpers, not sure what to feel. Albus makes a face.
“Oh, I knew she would forget. It was a simple plan, really. I would fake my death, and you would save me from here so we could run away. It went wrong though.” Albus grimaces and Scorpius can now see the tearstains on his face. “I’m going to die anyways. The doctor fed me a potion that was meant to preserve my body after I die. It’ll stop all my organs from doing their jobs. But since I’m not dead, it’ll kill me slowly. I might as well use magic and kill myself now.” He meets Scorpius’s blank gaze. “I really thought I could fix this. I’m sorry. I wish we could’ve had better.”
“Me too,” Scorpius breathes. He imagines it. They would’ve gotten married, likely. Albus would’ve pursued art, and Scorpius doesn’t know what he would’ve done, but they had so much potential together. Heck, they could’ve had kids, a house, they could’ve made a family together.
Scorpius holds back a sob. This was the second time today that he was told Albus would die. He had to try not to let it break him.
“Now, I need to ask something of you.” Scorpius sucks in a breath in anticipation.
“Will you kill me? Quite frankly, I don’t want to die slowly and feel all my organs stop. I would much rather have it be done quickly, and not be too painful. Can you do that?”
“I can’t.” Scorpius breathes. Albus smiles sadly.
“That’s what I expected. I guess I’ll do it myself.” He raises his wand and points it toward his heart.
“No! Don’t. I’m sure there’s some kind of counter-potion or something to stop this, don’t do it-“
“Scorpius. Even if I stayed alive, and got someone to help me, do you think my dad would allow me to see you ever again? He already blames you. He thinks you encouraged me to do this. I know that isn’t true but-“He breathes deeply. “I would rather die than live a life without you.”
“I feel the same. We’ll both do it, then.”
Albus’s eyes widen. “Do what?”
“Kill ourselves. It’s the only option.”
“Scorpius, no. You have such a big life to live. You’re so smart, so talented. I’ve seen your clothing designs, and they’re really something. You have so much potential. And that Polly, she’s not too bad. I’m sure you two would be happy together. It wouldn’t be love, but it would be okay. And there are other guys. Who knows? You can fall in love with someone else and forget all about me. It would be better for everyone.”
“I won’t fall in love with someone else, Albus. I’ve already given all my love to you.” Scorpius reaches in and gives Albus a soft kiss, then pulls out his knife.
“No!” Albus yells, reaching to stop him. “Please, I love you too. So, so much. And you deserve the world. Just don’t do this.” He kisses Scorpius, but Scorpius is a rock. The Scorpius he loves left long ago. He left when he thought the person he cared about the most in the entire world was gone.
Scorpius looks down at Albus, a silent apology in his eyes.
“Shall I go first, or would you like to?”
Albus breathes deeply. “You already had to hear about my death, you shouldn’t have to witness me die as well. You go first.”
Scorpius nods.
“Thank you,” he says. “You know, nobody other than you ever tried talking to me, as I was Voldemort’s child and all. You, possibly the most famous kid in the school, became my friend. I sincerely thank you for giving me a chance. I was happiest with you by my side.”
He closes his eyes and brings the knife toward his chest. “I love you, Al.”
“I love you, Scorp.” Albus says, tears filling his eyes. This was real. “See you on the other side,” He manages to choke out.
Scorpius presses the knife into his chest and tries to hide the pain. He can feel the blood running down and fingers and it hurts so much. He opens his eyes and meets Albus’s eyes, and when he is met with pure terror he smiles, and while it’s forced it gives Albus some support. And quicker than you can say “Wingardium Leviosa!” the blade hits his heart and is gone. Gone without a scream, or a cry. Albus looks at Scorpius’s lifeless form on the ground and lets out a choked sob. He lays down next to his true love and whispers an apology to his mother, his siblings, his aunt and uncles, and his cousins. He prays that they live happily and look back fondly at his time alive, instead of with pain and sorrow. He kisses Scorpius one last time.
Albus cries into Scorpius’s neck. “Thank you. Thank you for staying with me, the selfish, arrogant, and egotistical Albus Severus Potter. You had it so much worse than me, but you were able to see past that and support me instead. Thank you so much. Now it’s my turn.” He raises his wand. “See you soon, my love. Avada Kadavra!” Albus falls to the ground, eyes open, mouth slightly agape, fully dead.

Ginny was the one who found them. She was desperate to see her son, her middle son, her love, one last time. She saw the pair on the ground, freshly dead, and screamed. Harry quickly found her and they cried together, holding on to each other. Their funerals were held at the same time, and Harry and Malfoy found each other and finally, finally, forgave one another. Harry apologized profusely, and Malfoy was able to forgive. Funny, isn’t it? How it wasn’t until their children were dead that they were able to give what the two truly wanted. Their sons had to die for their fathers to realize their wrongs. Albus and Scorpius were buried next to each other. A token of their true love.
