Christmas morning of 2012 started like any other. The two Granger-Malfoy children woke up bright and early at 5am. But Scorpius woke their parents up at 6:03am because mum said, “I do not want to be woken up at 6am again.” So he waited until 6:03am to give her a bit of a lie in.
Lyra Granger-Malfoy was feeling very upset with her mother so she decided to do what any sane 4 year old would do, she ignored her. Instead of helping Scorpius wake their parents, she went to wake up her Grandma Cissa.
“Nana Cissa! It's time to wake up and see what muggle Santa brought me!” Lyra bursted into her grandmother's quarters without knocking. Of course Grandma Cissa was already awake and dressed for perfection to open gifts that morning.
“My little star, I've told you before. Just because Santa is a muggle tale does not mean Santa is a muggle.” Narcissa stood and scooped up the little ball of energy and carried her to the main foyer.
“Well daddy says Santa is a muggle, he just uses Elves and their magic.” Lyra lifted her little chin high in the air to defend her daddy. She loved her daddy very much, obviously more than her mummy did.
When they reached the foyer Scorpius was already there with their parents, anxiously sitting in front of the tallest christmas tree they had ever seen. Lyra jumped from her grandmothers arms and took her spot right in her daddy's lap.
“Good morning my little love.” Draco gave her a big squeeze hug.
“Good morning daddy!” Lyra cheered happily.
“Good morning my sweet girl.” Hermione came and kissed her head before settling by Scorpius. Lyra has always been told if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all, so she decided not to reply to her mother. She instead opted for a not so subtle glare.
Opening gifts was a very organized affair thanks to Hermione. They went from youngest to oldest opening their gifts. Once they were finished they all made their way to the dining room. Instead of accompanying her mum and dad on the short walk she held onto Cissa.
“You know little star, you haven't been very nice to your mummy this morning. Can I ask why?” Cissa whispered in her ear.
Lyra let go of her grandma's hand. “I'm mad at her.” She crossed her arms tightly across her body.
Narcissa stopped in the hallway and crouched down so they could fall behind and have a private conversation.
“And why are you mad at her? It's Christmas, she's trying to make today special for you.” Narcissa took a stray curl and twisted it in her fingers.
“Can you keep a secret?” Lyra whispered.
“Of course dear.”
“I woke up last night because I was really thirsty and I didn't want to bother Pippy so I went to get it myself. But on my way to the kitchen I saw mommy kiss Santa Clause!!!” She whisper yelled.
“Oh my little star.” Narcissa hugged her granddaughter tight, “Let's go eat breakfast and get this all sorted out.”
They walked briskly the rest of the way to breakfast and sat down.
“I'm glad you two could finally join us!” Hermione giggled. Lyra shot her another deadly glare.
“Lyra has something she would like to address before we begin eating.” Narcissa looked over and Lyra and gave her a reassuring nod.
Lyra took a deep breath and shouted, “I SAW MUMMY KISS SANTA CLAUSE LAST NIGHT!” Everyone around the table had different reactions. Narcissa was trying to be a proper women and stifle her laugh, Draco spit out his water, Hermione looked offended, and Scorpius looked confused.
“Lyra what were you doing out of bed at that time?” Hermione crossed her arms.
“Mum you're supposed to deny kissing Santa, not ask why Lyra was awake.” Scorpius whispered.
Hermione and Draco looked at one another. This wasn't a conversation they could have out loud so Hermione felt a cool knock on the walls in her head and graciously let Draco in.
“Hm so what should we tell our daughter love? That you kissed Santa or that Santa was me?”
“Draco! This is serious! I either tell her you were Santa and ruin Christmas for her or let her think I cheated on you with a fictional character for the rest of her life!”
“I'm just glad she didn't see what happened next. Thank merlin she didn't see you choking on Stanta cock.”
Hermione shot a deadly glare at her husband. Obviously he'd be no help.
“Lyra honey can you come here?” Hermione asked.
Lyra scooted out of her seat and promptly walked right past her mother into her fathers lap.
“Hmph.”
“Well you see sweetie… Daddy was actually the one I was kissing last night.” Hermione reached out to touch her cheek.
“Nuh uh! I saw it. Santa was putting presents under the tree and then he stood up and you kissed him! Daddy doesn't have a beard!” Lyra began to sob into her father.
Draco held in a chuckle. “Oh my little love I was just dressing up as Santa. It was just a funny joke. I transfigured a long beard and wore a costume. Mummy didn't do anything wrong.”
Lyra looked up from her fathers neck and into her mums eyes, “You promise it was daddy?” She sniffled.
“Of course!” Hermione scooped up her daughter and peppered her face in kisses. “I love your daddy very much. And you.” Hermione gave her a big squeeze.
“Okay I believe you then. Can we eat now?” Hermione set her back in her chair and the family began to eat their breakfast.
Ten minutes into the meal Scorpius shouts, “WAIT, why was daddy dressed up as Santa and putting presents under the tree? Is he not real?!”
Draco put his head on the table and Hermione let out an exhausted breath. This was not the year they thought they'd have to explain that Santa wasn't real.
