The Origins of Magic Denial
“But you don’t want Holly to mix with Oak because they don’t like each other. And now that I’ve learned the traditional methods, I really don’t like them, so I’m creating my own method and it’s going really well! It requires a sample of the person’s magic and I snuck one of Zatara’s daughter and… oh shizzzzzz.” Robin cut off his thirty-minute ramble suddenly.
Kid Flash tilted his head. “That’s pretty cool stuff. I think… wait, is something wrong?”
“There’s a statute of secrecy! I’m not supposed to talk about magic to no-majs! You don’t have magic! You’re a no-maj! I’m going to get in trouble and they’re going to be so mad and they’re going to obliviate you…”
“Obliviate…?”
“Erase your memory! I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” Robin was sobbing at this point.
Kid Flash decided to put an end to that. “How would they do that? Magic’s not real!”
Robin froze and turned to him slowly. “What? But…”
Kid Flash winked at him. “How can they erase my memory when it’s very clear magic’s not real? It’s just science we don’t understand yet.”
It took a minute for Robin to catch on. He wiped his tears away under his sunglasses and smiled at Kid Flash. “So as I was saying, if magic existed, here’s what I’d do with that magic sample from Zatara’s daughter.”
Kid Flash sat back pleased with himself as Robin picked up where he’d left off. Maybe he did believe in magic, but he was perfectly happy pretending not to as long as it meant Robin could ramble about his craft without consequences.
After all, this wand stuff was very cool, and he’d rather his memories stay in one piece, thank you very much.
