Sometimes the end leads to the beginning
The war raged around him, someone was shouting his name but the sound came muffled and Remus probably should had cared. He didn’t though, because nothing mattered anymore.
But just before everything went dark…
The most poetic dream came floating like the sea, while he was laying on the cold stone with his lifeblood draining out of him. Remus couldn’t have stopped it even if he wanted to.
His childhood bed in their dorm room.
A night sky with a full moon bems, sitting in the shrieking shack after he re-transformed back into his human form, his friends asking if he was ok.
Watching the dark lake flow at night, drunk as hell, that time Peter got dumped by his first girlfriend.
Committing mischiefs with his friends.
A sequence of moments, of long-lost memories followed each other like movie frames, each scene so vivid that he might as well have been experiencing it right now.
All four of them during their last prank in seventh year, Sirius turning around to grin at him when he realized they had made it in the end, Remus thinking nothing, for the rest of his life would ever feel as good as that precise moment. Before everything started to fall apart.
Running through the hallways after coming back from Honeydukes at 2am while Filch and his damn cat tried to catch them, laughing like maniacs after making it to the common room, lying on the carpet trying to catch their breath. When things were simple and they didn’t even know it.
The smell of the Potters’ house on Christmas mornings, glancing at the window, only to find out that it has snowed during the night.
Spending the first full moon with Padfoot, Wormtail and Prongs. Waking up in the hospital wing the next morning thinking he would’ve been alone as usual but finding his three best friends around him with their hands full of chocolate frogs, because they knew he always needed chocolate to cheer up. Promising he would never have to spend a full moon alone ever again.
Being woken up by the marauders jumping on Remus’ bed at midnight singing happy birthday and feeling like he really belonged somewhere for the first time in his life.
The last image flew more bittersweet than the others, secretly Remus’ fondest memory.
All four of them under James’ invisibility cloak, their first prank ever, in the slytherin common room. Glancing at each other after hearing a strange noise and burst into peals of laughter for the frightened faces of the other ones, trying to cover their mouths, scared to be found out and get detention. When everything started.
And before he died one last thought filled Remus’ mind: this is not how it was supposed to be, this is not how i imagined my life to turn out when i was 17 years old.
Suddenly everything ceased to exist, no one was shouting his name anymore and the marauders were just a silly childhood friendship whose memories died with Remus. everything went dark, it was over.
