Evanora Potter
Let's get one thing straight. James Potter was her brother, she loved him like a brother and when shit went down,
she’d go to war for her brother.
Which led her to the position she was in now. Walking menacingly through the eerily silent Hogwarts corridors towards her target. Her face, as always, void of any emotion as her soundless footsteps grew closer to her next victim. An unsuspecting Slytherin 6th year who was stood at the end of the corridor with a cigarette hanging loosely from his lips.
He didn’t even have a chance to comprehend what was happening as the girl grabbed him by the shoulder and threw a punch straight across his jaw, cigarette flying across the floor. Before he had a chance to collect himself, she grabbed him by the collar and brought his face to hers. “I thought you would have known better than to even breathe near my brother since our last encounter Mulciber” she spat, face still void of any emotion. She stealthily spun her wand in her hand before shoving it right into his neck “or do I need to remind you of what happened last time you made that silly mistake?”
“Your too cocky for your own good potter” Mulciber stated as if it were a fact “one day I’ll have you on your knees begging for mercy you bitch” he dared to speak as he smirked up at her.
Evanora didn’t even blink as she let go of his collar and punched him twice as hard straight across the face, yet again. She proceeded to kick him in the gut and watch as he doubled over in pain. She grabbed him by the hair and pulled his face up so she could punch him straight in the nose which resulted in a crack. Music to her ears honestly. She threw a few more punches until his face was bleeding enough for her pleasure.
His face twisted in pain as he felt the blood drip down his nose. “Oh, you’ll pay for that one you cunt” he said as he quickly recovered in order to defend himself. He towered over her but it didn’t phase her, she wasn’t scared of him, he should have known that by now. “Oh, will I?” she questioned, a smirk taking over her features, the first emotion she had shown throughout the whole altercation.
He didn’t bother to reply as he charged at the girl, fist raised. Without flinching, she held her wand up and shoved it right into his chest. The boy hesitated for a second and that was all she needed before she quickly kicked him right between the legs and kneed his face as he bent over in pain. She then proceeded to place her wand right into the back of his neck as she lowered her face to meet his ear. “You always make the mistake of underestimating me Mulciber. I mean you should be grateful honestly, I could have done a lot worse” she whispered matter of factly “now let me say this one more time. If you ever fucking dare to even look at my brother, the wrong way again I will personally cut off all your fucking fingers and shove them down your fucking throat.” She stated, her face once again void of any emotions. She slowly got up and sent a little hex his way to ensure he wouldn’t get up and honestly, just for shits and giggles of it all, before turning around and walking off as if nothing had happened.
Evanora knew that James was fully capable of defending himself, but she also knew that he was one of the kindest souls and rarely started a fight just because someone was saying something to him. James usually let out a snarky remark and carried on with his day as if nothing was wrong. If it was someone he cared about he wouldn’t hesitate to start a fight but he never cared much to defend himself physically if someone was being a downright arse to him. So, she did it for him. He acted like he was fine and nothing affected him but she knew that wasn’t true. She had been present for many of James’s breakdowns. He never liked to show that he was upset because he believed it was his job to be strong for everyone else around him. So ever since they were children, she made it her job to take care of him. Though, he protested this largely, hating that she was hurting herself and making herself a target because of him. She ignored his constant pleading, he deserved nothing but love and she was going to ensure that it was all he got.
James himself was extremely protective of his sister, he was the definition of an overprotective older brother. He would go extreme lengths to keep her safe and happy. He was like this with all his friends, but it went to another level when it came to his sister. He wanted to protect her from everything bad and ensure that she was always happy. After everything, she had been through he only wanted the best for her. That boy would genuinely kill for Evanora.
Their protectiveness for each other only grew as they did, starting very early on in their childhood. The Potters had taken Evanora in when she was only 9 after having enough of her parents. Her father, Kairo Potter was her uncle Fleamonts brother, though she couldn’t fathom how the two men were siblings. They were complete opposites, Fleamont being the kindest and most loving man she knew, he was accepting of everyone no matter blood status or wealth. her father on the other hand was a malicious blood supremacist who cared more about their family image than his own daughter. He was cold towards Evanora since the day she was born, wishing for an heir and instead getting her. He did everything in his power to ensure that she was the spitting image of him. He used whatever tactics he could not caring about the morality of it all to shape and form her into a mini version of himself. She had very rare contact with anyone her age since her father did not want her being under the wrong influence of blood traitors.
Her mother was the same, always by Kairo’s side ensuring that her daughter was fit for pureblood society. Growing up the way she did, made Evanora an extremely strong girl, both mentally and physically, her father made sure of it. He would use his magic in horrible ways to strengthen her brain and inflict such horrible physical pain at such a young age that her pain tolerance and her bodies ability to fight back just naturally strengthened. He made sure that she was intelligent, getting her a tutor by the age of 3. She learned everything she possibly could about all kinds of magic while she was locked away in their study.
The only time she was around children her age was during pureblood society events like balls and dinners. It was these events sadly, that taught her that she needed to be able to defend herself physically in order to be safe as a woman in this society. So that was exactly what she did. It was also at these events that she met her platonic soulmate, Peter Pettigrew.
The only other time she saw other kids was when they occasionally visited her uncle Fleamont or when he came over to visit them. James always joining him on his visits to their manor. Though she preferred visiting them instead, their estate being full of love and fun. Also because her mother never joined them on their visits to the Potter manor not quite enjoying the company of Euphemia. This allowed the girl to have a lot more freedom as her father was always locked away with Fleamont in his study, so she was left alone with Ephie and James. The two of them never took this time for granted and did whatever they could to ensure that she was receiving love and care and just spending as much time with her as they could.
There were a rare few times when her father let her stay over at the Potters overnight after a lot of convincing from Monty. As much as her father was a cold man he had a soft spot for his younger brother. These were her most favourite days. She played quidditch with James and Monty for hours on end, trying to perfect her skills, a habit she picked up from her dad. Which didn’t seem like too bad of a habit at the time but went on to burden the girl immensely in the future. She read a lot of muggle literature with Ephie while James complained about being bored. Ephie taught the girl many things and made sure that she was just as kind and compassionate as herself so that she wouldn’t turn out just like her mother Eudora. James and Evanora would stay up all night talking and joking and acting like utter imbeciles. It was genuinely what kept her sane. And it was the only reason she hadn’t accepted and embodied the beliefs of her parents.
She could see the difference between their two lifestyles in front of her. One house truly was a place where nothing but love and compassion existed at all times. Where mistakes might be made and you would only receive encouragement and hugs rather than yelling and punishment. being able to play, laugh, and joke around. And another in which acting improperly would result in punishment so severe that you would never dare to repeat the foolish mistake. Where you were taught that just because someone had different blood status than you that they were inferior and to be treated as such. A house where neither love nor joy existed, just pure suffering. And this difference is what made her realize that her parents views and lifestyle was one she despised and hated, though she would never admit that out loud.
She often asked both Monty and Ephie questions about blood status, purebloods, and what they thought of it all. She wanted to understand it all fully and completely, to see where both sides were coming from. She was a smart girl and she realized from a young age that she could never truly be what her parents expected her to be. It was a terrifying realization; she didn’t want to know what her father would do to her if he found out how she truly felt.
Monty and Ephie never knew the suffering Evanora faced at home. She was good at hiding that part of her life. Monty never imagined that his brother would be capable of that kind of horrific behaviour towards his own daughter. It wasn't until James had come over on his own one day to spend some time with his cousin that they found out.
James and Evanora were up in her room talking when James decided it would be fun to play tag. Evanora knew this was a stupid idea and tried to tell James that they should just do something else. But he just assumed she didn’t want to be “it” like a little baby so he tagged her anyways and ran off down the hallway. Envanora ran after him trying to get him to stop but before she could reach him he had bumped into a vase which proceeded to tip over and break right in front of their eyes. Envanora felt her blood run cold and she quickly pushed James into a room and told him to stay quiet. The boy was quite frankly confused but listened to his cousin anyways, she always knew what she was doing. Her mother walked in only a mere few seconds later and didn’t even hesitate to slap the girl across the face. She proceeded to yell at her which was humiliating enough knowing James could hear her but her mother went even further. It was a mistake Evanora had coincidentally made before and she knew not to make the same mistake twice. So, her mother used the torture curse on her to ensure that she would never be this careless again.
James stood horrified in the closet, tears streaming down his face as he was forced to listen to his cousin sobbing, begging for it to stop. He slowly exited the closet after he heard his aunts’ footsteps going down the stairs. He couldn't stop the tears from spilling as he saw his cousin's limp body on the floor. His heart genuinely stopped beating from the sheer pain he felt at the sight. He vowed that from that moment on he would do everything in his will to make sure that she never faced pain like that ever again. It traumatized him to see her like that and it was a sight that haunted his memories.
Just as James was about to kneel down to just hug her and try to help he was quickly pulled away by his uncle who had come out of his study to see what all the noise was. He immediately took James back into his study and told him that Evanora was being dramatic and that she was perfectly fine. He then proceeded to floo James back home thinking that would be the end of it. James who was still processing what happened entered his home and broke down in tears right in the fireplace. His mother ran in, and he told her everything. Euphemia felt her own eyes well up, horrified at what her son had told her. She immediately called Fleamont who didn’t hesitate to apparate straight into Kraito’s study.
The brothers argued for hours on end about the treatment of Evanora and what was to be done with her. Fleamont was enraged and disgusted, he couldn’t even look at his brother. It was a horrible and painful argument for both brothers and it wasn’t pretty. In the end, Fleamont had said something that caused Kraito to shut down and stop fighting back. Evanora still to this day doesn’t know what was said but it caused her father to stop arguing and let Fleamont take her home and that was all that mattered.
Her parents obviously didn’t let their only child go that easily and forced her to come home with them many times. It was a weird situation for her. She was mostly at the Potters but would get taken home for a few weeks every couple of months. Her parents ensured that she still had their pureblood mindset and that she was in the same restricting cycle that she had been in before she lived at the Potters. Kraito didn’t try to have her living with them permanently after that. Whatever Fleamont had said really stuck with him. But he couldn’t have the only child he had turn into a filthy blood traitor. So he was harsher than before, he made sure she was his exact replica. Evanora simply went along with it knowing that if she showed any sign of change in her behaviour around them it would only make things worse for her. They never let it be known that Evanora was indefinitely living with Fleamont because they didn’t want their daughter's reputation or theirs especially to be ruined and tarnished for associating that closely with blood traitors.
Fleamont and Ephie never fully believed the girl when she told them that her parents didn’t act the same way towards her as they did before, that it was better in her home now. But she persisted on it and they chose to believe that if something was wrong she would tell them. Evanora knew that it wouldn’t be smart to let them know. It would just create more problems for them all, so she kept her parents ill-treatment under wraps for the most part.
Living with the Potters was absolutely freeing. Evanora got to just be a kid and do whatever she pleased. She felt loved and cared for. She was content, as James spent every moment he could reassuring the girl that she was safe and loved. He made sure she was always comfortable and happy and did whatever he could to keep a smile on her face. He was her rock and he was there when she was having an episode or when she just needed someone to listen. So, when Evanora had walked in on James crying by himself one night she knew that she would do whatever she could to make sure that he never felt that way again. He deserved the same amount of comfort and love he gave out and she would make sure that he got that.
Which is why the girl felt no regret as she walked down back towards the dungeons. She had made it clear to everyone at Hogwarts since her first year that if anyone were to hurt James Potter, bless his soul, in any way, they would have to face her. At first, everyone laughed at the girl, I mean she was a little thing, didn’t look like a threat in the slightest. But she used that to her advantage, shocking everyone when she beat the actual shit out of a third year for making fun of James' glasses.
The girl had created a reputation for herself throughout the years. Always walking around with the same emotionally void expression etched onto her face, holding herself up so well it was scary. She didn’t play when it came to the people she cared about, mercilessly fucking up anyone that hurt any of them. On the outside she was a cold, and emotionless, some would say badass and others a bitch.
But honestly, Evanora was one of the most caring Slytherins you would ever meet. She cared so much about the people in her life and loved them more than she would ever let them know. She was much like James in the way that she only wanted the best for them. She was extremely reserved, so she let few people in, but the ones she did cherished and loved her more than she believed she deserved.
She had finally reached the common room and was planning on going straight to her dorm before she bumped into, in her professional opinion, the biggest dumbass in the world.
“Oi where have you been then?” the boy questioned as he moved back to take her in. But before he even had the chance to respond he figured it out himself after just a glance at her knuckles. “Ah, and what did the poor sod at the receiving end of your aggression do now?” he asked, genuinely curious to know why she got into another fight. Causally resting his arm over her shoulders as he led her up the boy's dormitory stairs as she answered. “He was not a poor sod Barty. He practically asked for it. Was saying stupid shit to James” she explained, not going into the details of what was said, it wasn’t relevant anymore. “He's a right cunt” she mumbled under her breath, but it didn’t go unnoticed by Barty who let out a loud chuckle at her choice of words.
“You’re a bloody monster y’know that” he laughed out as they reached the boys dorm room. Barty sauntering in with Evanora still under his arm. “Lads she's gone and done it again, our little Nora has gone sicko mode on yet another poor victim” he stated dramatically to the other two boys in the dorm. Evanora pushed Barty off her, giving him another shove as he chuckled at her aggression before she went and sat herself on top of Regulus’s bed.
Regulus looked at her quizzically, eyebrows raised waiting for elaboration. She just looked at him and shrugged her shoulders “nothing out of the ordinary honestly, he just needed to be put in his place” Evanora responded carelessly.
“Who did?” Evan questioned as he walked closer to the girl, examining her knuckles. “Mulciber” she stated bluntly as he took her hands in his and used his wand to clean up the little damage that was done. He always took to cleaning up any cuts and bruises she would gain after her fights, he truly acted like her mother at times.
Barty let out a snort, always finding these situations hilarious. Unlike the other two boys, Barty was always egging the girl on. He was literally the biggest instigator. What could he say, he just loved the free entertainment. “He's a right cunt anyways, isn’t that right Evanora?” Barty chuckled, mocking her own words. She just rolled her eyes and let out a little laugh in response.
Regulus sighed, laying himself back down so he was resting against his headboard. He wasn't even surprised, the girl had a short temper when it came to stupid sods like Mulciber. “You keep making the target on your back even bigger Nora” He stated, knowing Mulciber was going to remember this. She had ripped his precious ego apart on many occasions and he hated it. He wasn't going to just take it and walk away, they all knew that.
“It doesn’t matter, I can obviously defend myself against him, there’s nothing to worry about as far as I’m concerned” Evanora stated. It was true though, she had no fear of retaliation from Mulciber she beat his ass on multiple occasions and she could do it again. Regulus secretly admired the girl; she was so sure on protecting the people she loved and it was one of his favourite things about her.
“Well, as far as I'm concerned” Evan quipped “you’re being stupid” he stated, smacking the back of her head lightly before moving to sit on his own bed. He liked to act as if he were against her violent tendencies, but half the time he was the loudest in the crowd cheering her on. He even jumped in occasionally just to get a punch in so he really had no right to be talking.
Evanora picked herself up, off Regulus’s bed heading for the door of the dorm. She felt disgusting after not haven taken a shower all day and had planned to take one right after she dealt with Mulciber, before being dragged up to the boy's dorms by Barty. She flipped Evan off with a sarcastic smile plastered on her face. “You are stupid” she stated bluntly before opening the door and heading back to her own room.
She sighed with contentment as she realized her roommates were both already asleep. She took in the silence as she collected her pyjamas and headed to the bathroom. Casting a silencing charm so the noise wouldn’t wake the two she shared a room with. Her whole body untensing as soon as she stepped into the boiling water.
Evanora absolutely loved taking showers. She found comfort in the scolding water hitting her back and the fresh feeling she felt after she was done. She let the water consume her as her mind went silent, allowing her to breathe and relax. She stayed under the water for a while before deciding to finally shut it off, wrapping a towel around herself as she stepped out. She just looked at herself in the mirror, taking in her appearance. Some days she loved the way she looked and others she felt hideous. It was confusing, even to her.
She finally looked away as she started to get dressed, ignoring the scars that took over her stomach. She quickly brushed her teeth before literally throwing herself into her bed and drowning herself under her blankets. She cast a cooling charm, only being able to sleep while it was cold and slowly let herself grow comfortable. She laid in silence as her eyes began to slowly droop closed and she fell into a comfortable sleep.
