“Sirius hear my words N O noooo, I am not pretending to date James Potter have you lost your mind” Regulus shouts in his idiot brother's face.
“Please Reggie they're gonna kick him off the team, you know how hard he's worked for this.” Sirius says trying to bargain “It wouldn't be for very long just 3-4 months the company thinks him having a nice stable boyfriend would be great for proving rumors wrong”
“Sirius, James is already a good person just fix his image on your own.” Regulus is begging the universe not to do this to him right now.
Two days ago news broke of James Potter sleeping around, and some incriminating photos were leaked. While the media is often fake, unfortunately, someone James trusted had given up private photos. The media took James’ previous golden boy image and ripped it to shreds. The news titles had been particularly brutal calling him irresponsible, a slut, a whore, and a bunch of other lovely words.
Now, Sirius the PR Manager for the NFL Seattle Starborns had been trying to do damage control.
“Reggie please I'm begging you, James is crushed right now I can barely get him to leave the apartment he won't even tell me where the photos came from.”
Regulus is on the edge of giving in because the idea of James being upset is too much to bear.
His brother Sirius met James during college, and the two of them clicked instantly. Sirius talks about how fun their college years were constantly. Regulus remembers it a bit differently. Two years behind them Regulus was stuck at home with his parents.
And that was before it got so bad he was put into foster care for his last year of high school. Sirius had no idea, at that point he had been disowned by his parents and kept far out of the loop that was Regulus’s life.
He’s tried to get Regulus to talk about it but Reg has a rule of never rehashing that year and no matter how hard Sirius has tried to get him to open up regulus is a closed book.
Now he’s seeing his older brother desperate and begging Regulus to help his best friend and he knows how much James did for them all. Regulus knows that James is the reason they have a family to go home to at Christmas. That he’s the reason Euphemia texts Regulus to make dentist appointments and always sends him a birthday card. James is the reason he got Sirius back. And at the end of the day no matter how jealous he gets of his friendship with his brother he can’t help but thank the universe for James. Without him, he would be alone in the world and Regulus knows loneliness more than anyone. He hasn’t told James but he saved Regulus that night he knocked on his foster families door and asked him to move in with his family.
“Fine, I’ll help but I want to get paid, AND we need rules.” Regulus doesn't need the money truth be told he made something of himself after college and some smart investments. But the principle of making sure there's no confusion about this being a job is important.
“Of course yes I'll get everything set up, you need to start packing you'll be moving in with James immediately.”
“Wait what SIRIUS you never said anything about moving in,” Regulus says
“This was super last minute we need it to be believable, we're going to tell the media that you've been with James for 6 months and keeping it on the low so the photos are fake and being used to slander him,” Sirius explains
“Look Reggie I know this is a huge ask but I really appreciate it and I know James will too.”
“Fine fine fine just get out of my apartment send a car in an hour and ill be ready okay just let me get ready alone okay.” Regulus knows that if Sirius isn't out of his apartment in the next 5 minutes, he's going to notice how nervous he is about all this.
“Of course, Reggie I’ll send a car I'm going to James’s now, see you soon!” - “Text if anything goes wrong or you need me okay” Sirius smiles at him and leaves in a hurry “This is gonna work Regulus I know it”
