“Excuse me, but I was hoping I could ask you questions for my video?”
Remus looks up from the bent paperback in his hand to look at the young man currently in front of him. He had a hopeful expression on his face and seemed to have a lot of equipment with him. Obviously he came prepared.
Remus puts down his paperback and clears his throat awkwardly, “Umm what kinda of questions?”
The young man sits on the bench Remus had occupied in the park, pulling out his phone, and Remus barely holds his tongue to tell him the seat is taken.
“Well I make these short videos for my page on tik tok where I ask random strangers from the street questions. They are more on the sweet and reminiscent side. You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to, or if you choose to do it I could not film your face if you're uncomfortable, but if you do choose to do it the question I would be asking is quite personal and here is an example of that.”
Remus leans in when the man holds out his phone and watches the short video. He shows Remus a couple but Remus’ favorite one is where he asks an old man about his first love. It is an admittedly a very sweet video and Remus feels the tug on his heartstrings when the man in the video says his wife passed away. The video has a background sound that makes the whole thing even more sad, but it was done with enough professionalism and respect towards the old man that Remus finds himself very inclined to agree.
“This one is my most popular one, “ It had 11.7 million views, “But I do many others and if you would let me, I would ask you one of these questions at random.”
“Alright let's do it.” Please god don’t let it be the question about pain.
It takes a few minutes for the man, who Remus learned is named Hunter, to set up his camera stand and point it at Remus. Remus decided that he would show his face and was finding himself slightly nervous.
“Okay are you ready?” Hunter asked from behind the camera.
“Yup.” Remus rubbed his slightly sweaty palms on his pants and blew out a nervous breath.
“What was the name of your greatest love, and why did you fall in love with them?”
Remus relaxes and lets his face fall into an easy smile, “His name is Sirius.”
“Like the emotion?”
He chuckled, “No like the star, he would get annoyed by his name you know, he would get that reaction alot but I always thought it suited him. Sirius is the brightest star in the sky and to me he was just the brightest person in any room. He had this energy that would make everyone look at him. You walk into a room and not one person wouldn’t notice him.”
Hunter smiled, “So is that why you fell in love with him?”
A new voice came in from behind him, “Yeah Moony, is it?” He asked with a grin.
Hunter turned and looked shocked while Remus simply shook his head.
“Oh!” Hunter sounded surprised, “You’re Sirius?”
Sirius grinned at him and tipped his head, since his hands were filled with two coffee cups, “Yes sir, may I ask what’s going on?”
He sat down next to Remus and handed him his coffee, “He’s asking me questions for his tik tok page- a new app where you post videos- and their about my first love.”
Sirius nodded, “Should I get out of your hair for a minute then?”
Hunter shook his head, “Oh no, not at all, in fact I would love to ask you the same question.”
Sirius got more comfortable on the seat and leaned into Remus.
“Okay so Remus, you can answer the question first and then I’ll ask Sirius, does that sound good?”
When both men nodded he asked Remus his question again.
“I think I fell in love with Sirius because… I actually don’t know why I fell in love with him,” He spoke with a quirk in his lips, “It wasn’t just one thing that led me to fall for him you know? I can’t just pinpoint the little things he did that I fell in love with because I fell in love with everything about him. I can tell you how it felt- it was like being bathed in sunlight. I think it was just inevitable really, like it was something I was made to do.”
Remus had glanced down at his hands as he spoke, but when he was met with utter silence he glanced up at Hunter who was staring at him in awe, and then he looked at Sirius.
Sirius was staring at him with the brightest smile on his face. Remus felt his own answering smile erupt on his face.
“And you, Sirius?”
Sirius took a deep breath before he spoke, “ I fell in love with Remus because of the way he made me feel safe in a way no else could, and in a time where us being together was considered taboo and was ingrained to be meet with shame, he always made me feel pride to being able to call him mine.”
Remus grinned and leaned over to kiss his cheek. Sirius leaned into the motion and gave him another smile.
Hunter spoke up, “So when did you guys first meet?”
“We met when we were 11, we went to the same boarding school and we were put as roommates with two other guys,” Remus reminisces, “I will never forget walking into the dorm and seeing the most uptight little 11 year old talking like a damn politician.”
“Wow so how long have you guys been together?”
Sirius did the quick math in his head, “Well we're 62 now so about 46 years.” Technically 45, but they’ve agreed to call the one year they broke up in their early twenties the incident, but Hunter doesn’t need to know that.
“That’s incredible congratulations. Who made the first move?”
“I did.” They chorused at the same time.
Remus looked at Sirius with an incredulous look on his face, “You did not make the first-”
“Oh I so did-”
“You did not-!”
“I asked you out on our first date!”
“After I dropped so many hints! I kissed you first.”
“Okay but that could have meant anything, so it doesn’t count.” Sirius points out.
Renus looked at Hunter with an exasperated look on his face that indicated they had this conversation before. Hunter let out a laugh before asking his final question.
“What advice do you have to others who want to have a love as long as yours?”
Remus hummed, “I think communication is a big thing,” Sirius nodded along, “You need to let your partner know what you are feeling because it doesn’t matter how close you are, they aren’t mind readers. Always let them know if you’re uncomfortable with something and don’t go into an argument with the outcome of wanting to be right. Going into an argument like that, where you’re not open to actually having a discussion just wanting your partner to say your right, will always end up in a big screaming match or one unhappy with the other.”
“Mhm, I also think you need to be ready to try. Because relationships take a lot of work, they take a lot of energy and if the person is not worth the energy needed to make it work, don’t try to force it, let them go. There will be others.”
“Not for me and him though,” Sirius added after with a cheeky grin, “No he only gets one and he's stuck with me.”
Hunter laughed as Remus just nodded, and said, “Yup. Just like he’s stuck with me.”
Remus and Sirius reached out at the same time for a high five and met at the middle, Remus kept his hand on Sirius and brought it up to his mouth for a kiss.
Hunter stopped recording and shook both of their hands, thanking them for their time. He gave them a card with his information on it, telling them that his tik tok was on it and in about two weeks the video would be uploaded if they wanted to check it out. Both men thanked him as well and then he was off.
Sirius looked at Remus with a little special smile, and gave him an incredibly soft kiss, pulling back and landing another one more firm, before standing up and holding out his hand.
“Come on,” He wiggled his fingers, “ Let’s go take our old man walk around the park now while you wax poetic poems about our love to me.”
Remus just shook his head with a smile before gripping his loves hand and starting their walk.
It was about three weeks later, Hunter’s card was lost somewhere in their dirty laundry hamper and the two men had forgotten about it.
Remus and Sirius were over at James’ and Lily’s place, for their monthly dinners, with all children and grandchildren surrounding them as well, when all of a sudden, Little James (Harry’s kid) let out an over dramatic gasp and sprung up from the couch grabbing the attention of everyone in the room.
“Moony! Padfoot!” He shouted, “You guys are famous!”
They both glanced at each other in confusion, “What?”
“Look!” He thrust a phone in their faces, which was playing a video. After moving the phone an appropriate distance away, they finally realized what it was.
It was their video. The one they had made about three weeks ago on the park bench, talking about their love for one another.
Everyone crowded around the loveseat they were sitting on and went quiet as they heard them speaking through the phone.
“Awww Pads, Moons,” James rubbed his eyes in a mocking way, “Gonna make me shed a tear.”
Sirius reached over and pushed him away by his face, “Shut up, you're just mad no one talks about you that way.”
James scrunched up face and flipped him off, “I’ll have you know Lily says stuff like that all the time.”
“In real life?” He sounded doubtful.
Little James flapped his hands, cutting them off, “Look, it has close to 20million views, and look at the comments.”
The comments were a mix of things, some gushing about how in love they seemed even after all the years, some gushing about how Remus described his love for Sirius, and some about how Sirius looked at Remus throughout the video. Their was also a comment by Hunter saying that they were no longer strangers. Another comment by him said that just being in their presence one could tell how in love they were.
Remus squeezed his arm that was around Sirius’ shoulder and gave him a quick, but firm kiss on the top of his head.
Sirius Black was his first, greatest, and only love.
