Chapter 4

Pov. Remus

Remus couldn’t believe it. It had been hours since he went up to his dorm room and there he was, standing in front of his closet trying to find something to wear for his upcoming fake-date. But even though he knew that it was just a fake-date he was totally stressing out.

As he was continuing to stress over his clothing, he heard a soft knock from the direction of his door. Appreciating the distraction he gladly opened the door. Standing in front of the door was Lily, her hand raised ready to knock again.

“Hey Lils, What’s up?” Remus asked as Lily slowly put her still raised arm down. She just stared at him with a shocked face before she finally snapped out of her mind.

“What the fuck Remus. Why are you not dresses yet!? You’re date is in an hour!” She exclaimed in a whisper that was almost too loud to be defined as a whisper. Before Remus could even answer she just pushed past him, went over to his closet and began rummaging through it.

Remus softly closed the door and followed her to his closet. As Lily was searching trough his closet to find something Remus could wear, he just watched her with a light smile.

Finally, after a few minutes, Lily stopped rummaging and turned to Remus. In her one hand was a beautiful brown-ish knitted sweater with little red maple leaves on it. He had honestly forgotten that he even possessed this piece of clothing.

In her other hand were plain black pants. But even if they were plain they added perfectly to his outfit. Remus eyed her big with eyes and an even bigger smile.

“Do you like this? I think it fits very good together. It also brings out your eyes a little bit.” Lily said smiling at him, already knowing from the look he gave her that he absolutely adored the fit.

“Yes Lily, I love it. Thank you so much, I don’t know what I would do without you” He said, fully meaning it hoping that Lily knew how much he appreciated her (again).

“But putting your impressive fashion style aside, why were you here in the first place?” Remus asked suddenly remembering that Lily hadn’t known before that he wasn’t ready when she’d knocked at his door.

“Oh well, should I be honest? I need your advice.” That piqued Remus’ interest. Lily had never really been a person who asked for advice, either she had been able to handle it on her own or she had bottled it all up until she would break down. Luckily so far it had been the first option most of the times.

“Yeah, sure. I’m always glad if I can help so what’s up?” Remus asked very happy that Lily came to her. This had only happened one time so far and that had been when Lily was hopelessly in love with a particularly beautiful Ravenclaw boy in 5th year that, how Remus now noticed, he never got to know the name of.

“Okay so do you remember that Ravenclaw boy in 5th year? That I had a crush on?” Remus nodded, asking himself if she wanted dating advice from him again. But if that would be the case, he wouldn’t know why she had come to him. It wasn’t like it had worked the first time.

“I wasn’t honest with you back then. It wasn’t a boy. It was Pandora Lovegood.” She made a quick break, collecting herself before continuing to speak “I’m a Lesbian Remus.”

Oh.

This was a development that Remus hadn’t seen coming. But seeing how scared Lily looked right now, he quickly gave her a proud smile.

“Thank you for telling me Lily, that must have been hard carrying all that knowledge by yourself.” After Remus had said this he was able to see Lily visibly relax and give him a big smile.

“So you’re not mad? That I didn’t tell you?” Remus sighed hearing this. What Lily didn’t know was that he knew how it felt. Having to hide his feelings from people, from his friends, from family. He knew how it felt to be scared to tell people because of how they would react. That’s why he only shook his head and gave Lily a slight chuckle.

“Of course not Lily. Is that the only reason you came here? To come out to me?” He asked teasing her by wiggling his eyebrows as he said the last part of his answer. As a reaction she just rolled her eyes and punched him playfully in his shoulder. Then, still with a big smile on her lips, she became a bit more serious.

“No, it’s not. It’s kinda embarrassing to be honest but I got a crush again. And seeing as you are going on a date with a boy in a few, I desperately need your help.” Lily said, her face cringing as she said the word crush. If anyone were to tell Remus that there are people who look even more uncomfortable talking about their crush than Lily was, he wouldn’t believe them.

“Well it certainly looks like it’s someone you don’t want to have a crush on. You look like it’s Mary or something.” Remus said, wanting to joke about the situation to make Lily more comfortable. But judging from her shocked expression he had hit bullseye.

“Oh shit” Remus couldn’t say anything other because he tried not laugh just because of the irony of this very situation. What were the chances that Lily was also in love with one of her dorm mates that didn’t even know she liked the same gender? Apparently very high because Lily was still looking as pale as a ghost when she looked at Remus.

“Why do you look like you want to laugh, Remus?” Lily then proceeded to ask him, having seem that familiar shine in Remus’ eyes he had every time he tried not to laugh so far.

“I know this is very inappropriate right now but the situation is just so fucking ironic.” Remus said wheezing not being to able to control himself anymore. For a few seconds Lily had a confused look in her eyes until it clicked in her head.

For a few seconds she just looked at Remus with widened eyes before she also started laughing loudly. This continued for a minute or two before both of them calmed down. Lily then eyed Remus again.

“It’s Sirius, isn’t it” Lily then stated not even asking anymore. Remus could just nod suddenly being hit with sadness again, as just thinking about Sirius’ betrayal still hurt like a fresh wound under water. Seeing Remus look so sad, Lily had another enlightenment. She then smiled but this time more of a sad smile than a happy smile.

“You’re not really going on a date with Regulus, are you?” Remus just nodded. He could’ve denied it but he didn’t even wanted to. It felt nice having someone that knows. Just as Lily wanted to ask him why exactly he did with Regulus what he did, she saw the time on the clock and it was already showing 1:50pm. Remus followed her glance and when he saw the time his eyes widened in shook.

“Shit Lils, I have to go but we can continue this later, yeah?” Remus quickly said to her before gently pushing her out of his room with him, letting her go in front of his room. He then immediately started walking so fast it could almost count as running in the direction of the portrait hole. Just before leaving trough the portrait he turned around to give Lily a little wave and smile and then left to find his way to the Slytherin dungeon.

On his way walking (read: running) to the Slytherin dungeon he thought about what exactly they would do on this date. He had never thought about it till now. Would it be awkward? Would they get along? Remus didn’t know and in this moment all he wanted to do is get to the dungeon on time to pick up his (fake)date.

As he finally arrived at the dungeon he sent a quick glance to the clock hanging in the corridor. It was 1:59pm and he was now waiting in front of the entrance to the dungeon. Sighing in relieved he allowed himself to relax now only waiting for Regulus to come out.

But just standing there, he was beginning to get more and more anxious with every second passing. He felt many glares from many people but those didn’t bother him. He didn’t know who it was from but one particular glance made him feel uncomfortable.

Suddenly there was a tap on his shoulder and he turned around, startled from the sudden touch. Standing in front of him was none other than Dorcas Meadowes, a Slytherin girl he very much respected. He’d had more than a few pleasant conversations with her, mostly in potions where he was seated next to her.

“I want to make one thing clear. I like you Remus. You are a solid guy and I respect you. But if you hurt Regulus I’m going to come for you head, alright?” Before he could even answer her a voice made him turn around again to the dungeon entrance.

“Hello Dorcas, you’re not scaring away my date, are you? As much as I like sharing things with you, this one is mine alone.” Regulus said coming out of the dungeon with a wide grin. He was walking towards them and as he reached them he grabbed Remus’ arm, linking them. Then he stared at Dorcas with daring eyes.

“Oh Reggie, I wouldn’t even dream of doing that. I was just talking to him about our Potions assignment, wasn’t I Remus?” Dorcas said and if Remus hadn’t been there he would’ve believed her.

“Yeah she was, but Potions can wait now. Should we go now darling?” Remus said with a flirty grin that had found his way onto Remus’ smile in mere seconds.

Regulus answered him with putting on the same smile. Together, arms linked into each other, they left Dorcas standing in front of the dungeon, making their way to Hogsmeade.
