Written in the Stars

A week had gone by since you had gotten engaged to the loves of your life. Every single day you would look at your ring finger and play with the gold band that was around it. It brought you comfort to know that no matter where you were you would still have a piece of Remus and Sirius with you at all times. 

Tonks’s funeral had been earlier that day. A lot of tears had fallen from the eyes of many. Andromeda and Ted Tonks had organized a beautiful ceremony in loving memory of their daughter, Nymphadora Tonks. A select few of people had gone back to Twelve Grimmuald Place to have dinner provided by Molly Weasley, the unofficial mother-in-law to Tonks.  

You were alone in the sitting room. You could hear people talking in the distance. They were all laughing and reminiscing on the memories that they made with Tonks. There wasn’t a bad thing to say about her. You were once again gazing at the ring on your finger. Tonks would have loved this ring. She would have been your maid of honor if she wasn’t taken away from you so soon. 

“Can I sit here?” a voice said which made you look up from your hand. Charlie Weasley was standing by one of the armchairs in the sitting room. You softly smiled and nodded your head. 
He sat down while you began to play with the ring on your finger. 

“Congratulations by the way,” Charlie nodded his head towards you. The way he said it didn’t sound happy or cheery. He sounded sad and hurt. You didn’t blame him though, the love of his life just died. 

You looked back up to Charlie. He was looking at his open palms. “Charlie,” you said which caused him to look at you. “A few months before the battle of the department of mysteries, Tonks and I had a little chat. This chat was about you. I could clearly tell that Tonks was in love with you and well, I was right. She confessed, she said that she was in love with Charlie Weasley,” you laughed at the memory of the complete and utter joy that Tonks exuded when she realized that she was in love with Charlie. “She was in love with you Charlie. She wanted to spend the rest of her life with you but she wouldn’t want you to be sad or to dwell on the past. She would want you to be happy, Charlie.” 

“How would you feel? How would you feel if Remus or Sirius were taken away from you? How would you feel knowing that you had the chance to save them but you didn’t? Not everything is fucking sunshine and rainbows! The woman I loved is dead and there’s nothing I can do to get her back!” Charlie shouted. You were surprised that no one in the other room had heard it. Charlie was angry but you didn’t blame him. Tonks was the light of his life. She was his first love. There was no feeling of hurt that was quite compared to losing your first love. 

“My sister and her husband died! I wasn’t able to see them until the day of their funeral! Sirius spent twelve years in Azkaban when he is an innocent man! Tonks was like a little sister to me and now she's gone! My older sister abandoned me because of her own insecurities! I lost so many friends in the first war! I know a thing or two about losing the people I love.”

Charlie sniffled and bit his lip. He felt bad about making preconceived notions. You were wise and knew so much about losing the people you loved. He could never be as strong as you. “I was going to ask her to marry me you know,” Charlie said through tears. “I had this plan. We were dating for about seven months. I know that might be too early to get married but we’ve known each other for so long that it didn’t feel too early. I was gonna ask her the day after she died.” Charlie shook his head, “It’s crazy the way the world works. I was finally happy after moving back home and the one person that made the move worth it is gone. Might as well move back to Romania.” 

“Charlie, you’ve still got your family,” you got up from your place on the couch and sat on the arm of the armchair. You put your hand on his shoulder and squeezed it, “we both know that Molly and Arthur aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Plus, they would track you down and drag you back home. They finally have their little boy back.” 

Charlie laughed, “Thank you. I’ve heard a lot about your kindness from Tonks but I really haven’t experienced it on my own. I’m happy to say that she was right.” 

“Charlie, if you ever need to talk to someone I’m all ears, alright?” 

Charlie nodded his head and got up from the armchair. He stood in the doorway of the sitting room and without turning around he said, “thank you.” 

Charlie Weasley was utterly in love with Nymphadora Tonks. You were sad that you couldn’t see their love story play out, but not every love story has to have a happy ending.
