ONE normal night. Thatβs all you wanted, just one normal night but thatβs not what Sirius had planned.Β
News rang throughout the castle that the felon, Sirius Black, had broken in once more. Poor Ron Weasley jumped out of his skin when he saw the convict standing above him, holding a knife. All thanks to Neville Longbottom who had written down the Gryffindor common room passwords on a piece of paper that heβs lost not too long ago. You couldnβt blame the kid, Sir Cadogan changed the password twice a day. Β
βItβs so frustrating,β you whispered. Your wand illuminated the dark corridors of Hogwarts. Most students were sleeping while others were out past curfew. You and Remus were out trying to catch said students while also patrolling the corridors to make sure a certain someone was kept out.Β
βI know. Itβs like heβs taunting us,β Remus shook his head. Sirius had been in the castle not once but twice this past year and he hadnβt been caught. You were sure heβs been in more than twice due to the fact that youβd seen a black dog eerily similar to Siriusβs animagi form.Β
βRemus,β you said suddenly putting two in two together, βI think I know how he-β
You came to a halt when youβd seen Severus and Harry at the end of the dark corridor. Severus had something in his hand. It looked like nothing more than a piece of parchment but as the two of you got closer, you knew exactly what it was.Β
βProfessor?β Remus said, making his and your presence known.Β
βWell, well. Lupin. Out for a little walk in the moonlight, are we?β Severus smirked while you sneered. Not only did he completely dismiss your presence but he was also making snide werewolf comments about your partner.Β
βHarry? You all right?β you go to aid your nephew.Β
βThat remains to be seen. I've just now confiscated a rather curious artifact from Mr. Potter. Take a look, Lupin. This is supposed to be your area of expertise,β Severus hands Remus the all too familiar piece of parchment that he was holding, βClearly, it's full of Dark Magic.β
βI seriously doubt that, Severus. It looks to me as if it merely insults anyone who tries to read it. I suspect it's a Zonko product. Nevertheless, I shall pursue any hidden qualities it may possess. As you say, it's my area of expertise. Come, Harry.β Remus turns and walks away from Severus and Harry follows, but you stay behind.Β
βSeverus, stop trying to pick on children,β you crossed your arms.
βPick on childrenβ she says,β he laughed, βI donβt know about you but Iβm just trying to do my job.βΒ
βI didnβt know being a bully was in the job description,β you retorted. You mentally gave yourself a high five. Β
βI didnβt know bending over Lupinβs desk after class was in the job description either.βΒ
βAt least Iβm getting some. Itβs not my fault you haven't been able to get your dick wet since 1978!βΒ
βLeave, Y/N, before I say something Iβll regret.βΒ
βYa well, I regret ever being friends with you,β you turned and walked away in the direction Remus and Harry went. You really didnβt mean that. Severus used to be a good person. Ya, when he was nine you laughed at your inner thoughts.Β
You walked into Remusβs classroom. As soon as you stepped in, Harry stepped out. Remus looked a bit irritated so you walked closer to him. You walked next to him and traced your finger along his shoulder.Β
βWhatβs wrong, Rem? You look a bit ticked.βΒ
βPeter Pettigrew,β that made you stop. What did Peter have to do with this?Β
βWhat does he have to do with this?βΒ
βHarry said that he saw him on the map,β Remus looked up at you while you looked at the map sitting on his desk.Β
βMaybe it was someone who had a name similar to Peter. Maybeβ¦Peter Pellingroot?β you tried to reason.Β
βYou are so stupid,β Remus laughed. He scooted his chair back a little, wrapped his arms around you, and pulled you into his lap. Remus laid his head on your shoulder.Β
βWhat were you saying earlier? Before we saw Severus and Harry?β he asked.
βI think I know how Sirius is getting into the castle,β Remus raised his head and you looked at him. βHis animagus, Itβs a black dog right?β Remus nodded, βWhat if heβs coming into the castle as the dog and then transforms back into himself when he gets here.βΒ
βThatβs smart and sounds incredibly like him,β Remus nodded. He agreed that Sirius would do something so smart yet so dumb. He was an unregistered animagus and if caught, Β he could once again face more time in Azkaban.Β
βIf people find out heβs an animagus he could-βΒ
βThey wonβt,β Remus shook his head, βSirius is sneaky and careful. He knows when to fight and when to stand down.βΒ
βI donβt really think he did it. I mean, I used to because of all the headlines and stuff but now that I really think about it, there really wasnβt enough evidence to use against him. He didnβt even get a trial!β you went on a passionate rant about how even the most heinous criminals need a trial. The wizarding justice system was corrupt and you hated it.Β
Your gaze shifted from Remus to the Marauders map that still lay open on the desk. Your eyes scanned every inch of that map, searching for something. What were you searching for? You didnβt even know yourself. Then your eyes found it. Peter Pettigrew was written in fancy letters on the map. And as fast as it appeared, it was gone.Β
