Break or not, holiday or not, Albus Dumbledore awoke at the same time as always. Part habit, part necessity. Even with only a dozen children in the school, he still had a lot of responsibilities as headmaster, without bringing Christmas or politics into the mix.

Yet, Albus didn't immediately stand as he usually was wont to do. He just...he just didn't have the energy. All he could consider were those days, ninety years prior, with Gellert Grindelwald by his side.

Albus knew Gellert wasn't a good person, yet....Albus had heard that winter brings out past bad memories, regrets....He definitely felt that way about Gellert.

Gellert was bad, but....Albus couldn't help the fond memories, Gellert was his first and only relationship after all....Even if it lead to his dear sister's death....Ariana....It wasn't Gellert's fault....It was his, Albus's....

Ariana. Sweet, innocent, Ariana, only fourteen. If Albus had ever had a daughter he would have named her Ariana...but, that didn't happen.

Albus had never expected to have children. He knew he was gay young. Of course there was always adoption, surrogates, etc., but....They didn't tend to take care with his sort.

Albus wouldn't want a child anyway....Not after Ariana....No child deserved that....Deserved to have to have him as a parent....Maybe he shouldn't even be headmaster, but....Well, it was too late now....

Gellert never wanted children. He saw them as a necessity in the world, but not something he wanted to deal with. Albus used to agree with him, maybe just because it was him, but he felt differently now.

He could have a child now if he wanted, but....Well, no....Not after Ariana....

Nothing would ever be the same after Ariana.
