Come In The Water Is Fine
Two Lovers Wander Down to the Shore
Hand in Hand the Evening Before
The Day That Their Hands Will Be Joined
The party was a hit. A birthday for the ages. Sirius laughed with James, his arm around Remus. Suddenly there was a knock at the door.
“I’ll run and get it,” Sirius said, kissing Remus on the cheek, “Be right back”. Sirius darted off to the door.

He Bids Him Come Out and Come Home
But Deeper and Colder He Goes
The murky green water filled the boy's lungs, as hundreds of hands pulled him lower and lower. So this was it. This was the end. What an ironic way to go, he had always been such a good swimmer.

Sirius opened the door. “Hello Mother,” he said coldly “What possible reason could you have to visit? Come to wish me a happy birthday?”
Walburga ignored his question and handed him a sealed envelope “This is for you”.
She walked off.

Sirius shut the door. Slowly, he opened the envelope and unfolded the paper inside. The cream-colored parchment was on Ministry letterhead. Eyes scanning the paper, Sirius read its contents.
‘Due to the amount of time spent on our search, and our inability to find the body we, the Department of Investigation, have concluded that Regulus Black is deceased and will no longer continue the search for his body. We are sorry for your loss and hope that you will find happiness in this dark time, but our money and time are needed elsewhere.
Sincerely,
The Department of Investigation- Missing Person Section’

Love Come in
Sirius stood still, absolutely numb. He walked back to the group, eyes down.
“Star, is everything alright?” Remus asked, “What happened?”
Sirius fell to his knees. Slowly, he looked up. “Regulus is dead. He’s gone forever.” A strange sense of cold filled him as if his insides were freezing over. Hardening. Sirius clenched his fists, nails digging into his palms.

Finally, he was free. Free from the pressure of being the perfect son. Being the heir. He no longer had to worry about meetings, and etiquette, and all the things required of a wizard of the upper class. He could simply let go. Float away from this world. From its struggles and hardships. The boy gave into the water, to the hands, to the darkness, and everything fell away.

Sirius pushed himself up off the ground forcefully. “They were supposed to protect him,” he muttered under his breath “They were his friends”.
Sirius took a deep breath and calmly said “I need to go. I need to have a… talk with someone,”
He took his wand from the coffee table and walked out the door.

The boy’s eyes closed as his body floated beneath the surface of the water. They would know he was dead but there would be no body. Nothing to bury. Just an empty casket and the cold, dark expanse of the water. He had gone perfectly still, joining the rest of the corpses that lay in wait beneath the gentle waves.

Remus followed Sirius into the cold November night. “Where are you going?” He called out.
“To visit a family friend” Sirius yelled back “I’ll be home in a jiff”
‘A family friend’ Remus wondered ‘A family…’ then it dawned on him. Quickly, Remus ran to the apparition point.

Sirius blasted open the front door of the Crouch-Rosier residence, pure rage fueling his actions. Evan Rosier sat at the dinner table, eating his chicken and rice. He looked up from the book he was reading and his eyes widened.
“YOU LITTLE BITCH!” Sirius yelled “YOU WERE HIS FRIEND! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT HIM!” Tears of anguish and anger streamed down his face “AND NOW HE’S DEAD!”
Sirius stalked closer to the boy at the table. In a deadly calm voice, he said “You let them take my brother from me. Now I’m going to take something from you”.

Evan snatched his wand from his back pocket. “Expelliarmus!” he yelled but was quickly blocked by Sirius. Dueling was one of his strong suits. Sirius let out a laugh.
“You think a silly disarming charm is going to stop me?” He said manically, all other things ceasing to exist. Suddenly, his face deadened “You’re wrong”.

Remus arrived at the house and ran up the steps but he was too late. Sirius stood above the boy on the floor, one foot on his chest, his wand pointed at his face. Remus was about to yell and tell him to stop but he was too late. A small piece of Remus’s soul died as he heard his lover say those two forbidden words.
