Poor Timing, Wayne

Cassie was comfortable.

Which, considering she was dating Damian freaking Wayne, was honestly a miracle.

She was curled up in his bed, wrapped in his ridiculously soft sheets, her head resting against his bare chest as his arms lazily draped around her waist.

And yes—she was wearing his shirt.

(Because it was comfortable, and because she had stolen it, and because she liked the way he scowled but didn’t actually stop her.)

They were both half-asleep, just basking in the warmth of each other, when—

Cassie’s phone buzzed violently on the nightstand.

Cassie groaned. "Ugh, nooo. Ignoring it."

Damian, eyes still closed, muttered, "If it is important, they will call back."

Not two seconds later—

It buzzed again.

Cassie blindly reached for it, squinting at the screen.

It was Stella.

And it was a FaceTime call.

Cassie groaned again. "Your sister has the worst timing ever."

Damian made a noncommittal sound, clearly not planning on moving.

Cassie sighed, accepting the call and holding the phone up lazily.

"What, Wayne?" she muttered, voice still thick with sleep.

Stella, on screen, was sitting on the couch with Natalia, both of them looking annoyed.

"Finally! Okay, we need you to settle something—"

She paused mid-sentence, eyes narrowing.

Cassie blinked sleepily. "What?"

Stella leaned closer to the screen.

Then, in a slow, dawning horror, she registered two things:

  1. Cassie looked sleepy and comfortable as hell.
  2. Damian’s bare shoulder was visible behind her.

Stella’s face contorted in disgust.

"OH, HELL NO—"

Natalia burst into laughter.

"Oh my god, are you—are you cuddling right now?" she wheezed.

Damian, finally opening his eyes, just stared at the phone blankly. "You called. You interrupted."

Stella gagged.

"I DIDN’T KNOW I WAS INTERRUPTING WHATEVER THIS IS!"

Cassie sighed dramatically, fully shifting to lay back against Damian’s chest just to annoy her.

"Okay, well, you called me, so what do you want?"

Stella visibly shuddered.

"We were arguing over whether a hot dog is a sandwich."

Cassie stared.

Damian sighed.

Natalia was still laughing.

Cassie turned back to Damian, unimpressed. "Your sister woke me up for this."

"I tried to stop her," Natalia admitted.

"No, you didn’t!" Stella snapped.

Cassie exhaled, pinching the bridge of her nose.

"Okay. Fine. You wanna know the answer?"

Stella and Natalia leaned in.

Cassie smirked.

"It’s a taco."

Damian let out a low chuckle as Stella immediately started yelling, Natalia losing it on the couch.

Cassie just grinned, snuggling back into her boyfriend as Stella hung up in rage.

Damian pressed a lazy kiss to her temple, his arms tightening around her again.

"You enjoy tormenting her."

Cassie smirked. "Yeah. But not as much as I enjoy stealing your shirts."

Damian rolled his eyes.

But he didn’t ask for it back.
