Apparition
Draco found himself running back into the great hall, Ron at his side to find Professor McGonagall but they couldn't see anyone in the crowds. Suddenly he felt a tap on his shoulder and turned to see Pansy and Blaise. "Draco what happened, where is Hermione?" Pansy asked a concerned look on her face.
"She has gone to...it doesn't matter, Deatheaters are going to be here within the hour we need to tell the teaches and get everyone out."
"Well most of the younger kids have gone home for Christmas but that's still half the school here."
"I know tell as many people as you can, go to the teachers first, tell them that the apparition wards will be destroyed and that they should get people out before then, or teleport out."
"Wait where are you going to go?" Blaise said.
"I'm going to speak to Harry Potter!" Then he was of again into the crowd. "Ron where was the last place you were with him."
"He was by the bar."
"Why did you leave earlier?" He asked as he headed towards the bar.
"Harry and Ginny are going out, they were talking." He swallowed. "It was making me uncomfortable.
As he got to the bar he immediately saw Harry and Ginny at the bar and he could understand why Ron wanted to leave, she was all over him. "Potter we have a problem."
"Why? What is it?"
"You need to get out and get as many people out with you, Voldemort is coming back and Deatheaters are going to be all over this place within the hour."
"WHAT!"
"The apparition wards will be off soon as well so I suggest that you go as soon as possible, just get out and disappear."
He nodded and grabbed Ginny's hand and left though the door, Ron going with them. It was at that point that the music stoped and McGonagall stood in the middle of the dance floor. "Students please stay calm, the school needs to be evacuated as there has been a breach so will you please return to you dorms collect your essential things and return to the main doors as soon as possible in orderly fashion." It was not orderly at all, people began to run from the hall, to the common rooms. It was chaos. Students were frantic running in every direction, some of the younger years were crying, and being comforted by teachers.
Suddenly a blinding pain shot through his arm, the pain so unbearable that he fell to his knees. This was it, they were coming.
He had to get to Hermione, he never should have let her go by herself in the first place. He didn't even know where she had gone.
As he held his arm the pain increased and a vision flashed through his eyes, it was the door, the door covered in snakes. That's where she had gone. He didn't know why that vision flashed through his mind, he just knew that she was there and she was in trouble.
"Draco what happened? Are you okay?" He looked up to see Blaise, a worried expression on his face.
"Yes I'm...fine. We need to get out of here. Now." He rose to his feet, his hand still gripping his left arm where the tattoo was and headed out into the hallway.
Suddenly there was a loud crack behind them and as Draco turned to see what it was his heart fell. There was a cloaked figure with a mask stood there, wand drawn and was staring straight at a small group of first years in their pyjamas walking town the stairs. The hooded figure raised his wand high in the air and before he knew it he heard the words "Avada Kedavra".
To his surprise it had been him to say those words. He gaped at his own raised wand and then looked towards the body of a deatheater now in a pile on the floor, lifeless. But then he looked towards the group of first years, and saw the fright in their eyes at the fact they may have been killed. "Find a teacher and get out of here." He shouted to them, and it only took seconds for one of them to take the lead.
It was then that he heard crack after crack after crack of deatheaters teleporting into Hogwarts, followed by an assortment of spells being yelled and then shot. He had to find Hermione, she was the one pice of hope in his life and he couldn't loose her too. He ran up the stairs and headed towards second floor.
Hermione watched as the large charcoal coloured snake lifted its head up, large fangs dripping with a poison the sizzled as it hit the floor. The room looked exactly as it had before, large metal statues of snake heads lining the walls with two moats of water lining either side, and at the very end stood the basilisk directly in front of the giant stone face. The way it was coiled and how it didn't immediately try to attack her made her think it was protecting something, almost how a normal snake would act with a nest of eggs. Suddenly the large serpent started to move, it uncoiled it's self to reveal its master. The scales scraped across the floor as it moved and stood in amongst the loops of serpent stood Jeremy the boy from Ravenclaw, still possessed, only this time his eyes were shut and she could see where dried blood marked his face around them as if he had tried to claw his very eyes from his skull. He took a step forward, looking increasingly like a puppet being held up with strings, the Ravenclaw diadem no where to be found.
"Well if it isn't the brightest witch of her age." The boy drawled, almost hissed and it was now that she knew for sure that Voldemort was back, she had been hoping the whole time that she had been wrong, that somehow her intelligence had finally failed her but now faced to face with the demon there was no doubting it now.
She took a few steps closer until she was in front of a grate in the floor leading to another very small tunnel. "Why are you doing this?" She said trying to stall herself to get a better idea of her surroundings.
"I think you know why I'm doing this." She took in the fact he was wearing a suit meaning he was at the ball. "It was very smart of you to bandage your eyes like that, however...I doubt it will help. By dawn everyone in this castle will be dead." He held his arm out and stroked the giant snake, almost as if he were trying to emphasise how much power he had.
"I just don't understand why you have such an obsession with power."
"It isn't power that I crave, mudblood , it's authority that I want, power is just one route to my goal, if you don't die tonight I expect one day you will realise this."
"Not if I kill you first."
"Hmm you really are naive, did you really think that killing this young boy would solve your problems." He must have noticed the look on her face change as realisation hit her. "Oh yes, this little Ravenclaw know-it-all is still alive, but my plan didn't stop there, I'd say about a quarter of the school os completely under my control. You see over the past few months I have persuaded many people to try on this crown and with that I have gained complete control over their brains so at any moment I can be somewhere else. I found the Ravenclaws particularly easy to control as their eagerness to put of the crown preceded anything I could have hoped for. Anyway I'm not going to waste time asking you for lost words."
Her heart was in her mouth. He could take control of anyone in the school at this moment and this was probably how he took control of people in Azkaban, all it took was for the diadem to be out in the world and he could get control of everyone. That's why there was a weak enough connection to Jeremy a few days ago, because the diadem wasn't even in the school.
With that he turned to the snake, and as the Ravenclaw boy puppet spoke to the snake in parcel tongue. She didn't know what he said exactly but she got and idea of it when the basilisk lunged at her, fangs drawn.
