I-Island
Chapter 24
The holidays began and Yumi was extremely excited, despite the matter of the mall. Soon, she was going to forest camp.
But better than that, before forest camp, they had received an invitation to visit from Uncle David!
She didn’t even care that their family trip had become something entirely different with the addition of Midoriya Izuku, too glad to be seen the man and his daughter after so many years.
Shinso wouldn’t be coming with them, unfortunately, as his parents had decided they wanted to go on a family vacation to ‘reconnect’.
David Shield had been her daddy’s sidekick in his years at America, until his wife had died and he’d decided to drop heroics to dedicate himself to his daughter.
Yumi had met him when she was six and, soon, he’d become an uncle figure to her and his daughter a cousin.
She didn’t see them often, but she kept in contact with them and treasured every memory of their sparse visits.
This time, they had invited them to I-Island, the artificial moving island that housed the scientists researching quirks and building support items for heroes. Her uncle had even offered to have a look at her hero costume and add some tricks to it.
She couldn’t wait!

Izuku had kept her up all the plane trip with his chatter about the kind of experiments they did at I-Island, but she wasn’t really complaining. Then he asked her father about it being a problem that he’d brought him with them.
“We each got an invitation so that we could take someone else with us. In the beginning, Shinso was also supposed to come, but then his parents decided to go on holiday.” Explained Yumi instead of her father. “It won’t be a problem for you to be here.”
“Well, it’s time to get changed.” Said Toshinori taking on his All Might shape.
He’d be having a bit of a hard time in the island, with him having to maintain his muscled form whenever they were outside their private rooms.
She would freely admit she was worried for him, but he insisted on attending as All Might.
Though she’d also admit, she could’ve done without being mugged by fans and reporters.

“Yumi! All Might!” shouted a girl’s voice.
Yumi grinned widely and broke into a run, almost throwing the blonde girl to the floor in her excitement.
“Melissa! I’m so glad to see you again!” exclaimed Yumi, instantly shifting into English.
“It’s been too long, cousin!” exclaimed back Melissa before the girls disentangled themselves and the blonde went to hug Toshinori.
“Look at how much you’ve grown up, Melissa! You’re a young woman already!”
“Well, I’m seventeen years old. I’m sure I must weight quiet a lot more now.”
“No way, little one.” Said Toshinori throwing her up and down in the air as he’d used to do when they were children.
Melissa laughed, clearly delighted.
Yumi smiled at seeing Izuku’s confusion over her cousin, but she said nothing as her dad asked about David. She was surprised, however, that apparently uncle Dave didn’t know they were coming at all. It was a surprise from Melissa in celebration for a successful experiment.
Then her dad seemed to remember his modals, at last, and introduced Izuku.
“Weren’t you going to bring a friend too, Yumi?”
“Yes, but he couldn’t come. I asked a couple of other friends, but apparently either they were busy or they already had plans to come so I’ll be seeing them around.”
She said it mostly as a warning, as Melissa, despite not knowing about All Might’s other identity, did know her being his daughter was a secret. It wouldn’t do for her to introduce her to her friends only for the secret to slip out after all this years.
“Wait, some of our classmates are here too?”
Yumi was confused at Izuku’s question. Had he not asked any of his friends for their summer plans? She had it in good conscience that Uraraka and Tenya were coming.
“Yes, they are.”
But before she could add anything else, Melissa fixated on their hero costumes, studying them.
After a short analysis, she seemed to realize she was getting lost in her mind and turned sheepish.
“Let’s go surprise my father!”

Uncle David was indeed surprised to see them, but he seemed equally happy as he hugged Yumi close and exchanged a friendly pat on the back with All Might.
Then Izuku went all fangirl on him, of course.
“Hey, Melissa, why don’t you take Yumi and Midoriya on a tour of the EXPO?” suggested uncle Dave.
Yumi looked between him and her father with narrowed eyes, but nodded anyway. They had a lot to tell each other and her father was probably weakening after all the time they’d been held back by the press.

Melissa did indeed take them on a tour of the EXPO and she could soon see that she and Izuku would get along like a house on fire.
They were both in their element, with every gadget grabbing their attention and receiving a deep analysis. Yumi found it interesting too, but not on the same level as them.
In fact, she only tagged alone because she’d missed her cousin. Otherwise, she’d have ditched them as soon as they decided to go to the Tech pavilion.
If she had, however, she’d probably have missed Izuku’s encounter with the first of their classmates. Apparently, Uraraka was jealous and Yaoyorozu and Jiro were supporting her.

They went to a cafeteria to drink something all together and Melissa decided to ask about their internships. The girls happily told her about what they’d been doing.
When her turn came, Yumi blushed a bit.
“Well, I mostly followed K-Hawks around…” she said evasively, not wanting to seem as if she was bragging.
Her cousin sent her a look that clearly stated they’d be talking further about this when they were alone.
And then their servers appeared. Yumi giggled.
“Kaminari, Mineta, summer work?” she asked seeing them all dressed up.
“Yes! It’s the best! We get paid and we can visit the EXPO in our free time.” Explained Kaminari.
“And maybe even meet a beautiful girl I can-”
Seeing him revert to his perverted self, Yumi glared at Mineta and covered her cousin a bit with her body.
“Should I call Shinso?”
Immediately, Mineta paled and looked away from all the girls.
“I’m sorry, I’m reformed, I swear.” He whimpered.
Kaminari nodded very seriously next to him.
The girls snorted, all but Melissa, who looked pretty confused by the exchange.
And then another familiar voice reached them.
Yumi face-palmed as Tenya started to berate their classmates for slacking off on the job.
She just hoped Melissa wouldn’t think them all a bunch of weirdos, but a look at her dispelled her fears. The girl seemed utterly amused by their behavior as they all explained how they’d got to visit the EXPO.
“I had a girl’s day planned for us, but if you don’t mind…” said Melissa looking at Yumi. “I could give you and your friends a tour of the rest of the EXPO.”
“You’d do that?”
“Please, Yumi-chan, say yes, please, please, please…”
Yumi sighed fondly and nodded, much to her classmates’ happiness.
But just then there was a loud explosion and their attention was caught by two giant screens.
“Eijiro?” muttered Izuku.
“Is he another…?”
“Yeah, he’s a good friend.” Nodded Yumi with a smile. “So is that blonde about to face the simulation.”
Izuku paled upon seeing Bakugo. Of course, after winning first place and having their presence pointed out by Kirishima, Bakugo approached them.
“What the hell are you doing here?” he asked Izuku, giving Yumi a simple nod that made her smile.
It was progress, after all.
“How did you come to be here, Eijiro?” asked Yaoyorozu, seeing they wouldn’t be getting anything out of Bakugo.
That question seemed to get the blonde even angrier as small explosions burst out from his hands.
“Well, you see… the winner of the first place at the UA festival received an invitation for him and a companion, but since Todoroki already had one, he gave them to us.” Explained Kirishima rubbing the back of his head.
“Wait, Todoroki-kun is here too?” asked Jiro looking at Yumi for an answer.
Yumi flushed at the attention, or so she told herself.
“Y-yeah, he is.”
Then, luckily for her, Uraraka basically tricked Izuku into trying to beat Katsuki’s time in the simulation and everyone’s attention was off her.
“Looks like we have a lot to talk about.” Commented Melissa in a low voice, her right blue eye winking at her.
Her blush returned.
It became even fiercer when Izuku’s turn finished and a new person took the stage, beating Katsuki’s record by 3 seconds.
“Shoto Todoroki gets first position!”
When the boy turned and saw them all standing there, she smiled widely at him and waved.
“Congratulations, Shoto!” she cheered him over Bakugo’s complains.
