Chapter 13

Her father was at his limit, she could see it.

And yet he ordered them all not to interfere.

But things, in the end, turned out alright.

Aizawa-sensei woke up in time to erase the Nomu’s hit-absorption Quirk, which made it easier for All Might to overpower him, before falling unconscious again.

Shigaraki fled with his warp-gate, but he left behind tens of villains for the other Pro Heroes to take care of and interrogate.

The students were all mostly unharmed, All Might had a minor injury, their tutor had been healed and Thirteen was the only real injured person.

Yumi… well, Yumi just fainted as soon as they were safe.

“Yumi-hime!” shouted All Might upon seeing her sway in place.

His cry alerted her classmate, Todoroki, who gathered her up in his arms before she could drop to the floor.

“She healed Aizawa-sensei, All Might-san.” Told him Shinso, though he also appeared worried.

“How severe were the injuries she healed?”

Shinso’s grimace told him more than enough. All Might seized the chance to both get out of there and reassure himself she was fine at the same time.

“Hand her over, Todoroki-kun, I’ll get her to Recovery Girl.”

His powers were at their limit, but he had enough for a last burst of strength that would see her safe in the doctor’s hands. He always would for her.

Todoroki seemed a bit reluctant to do so, but obeyed and handed her over to All Might. She seemed even smaller in his arms and Toshinori was reminded of the first time he held her.

Without another word and seeing his fellow Pros had everything well in hand, All Might left the USJ.

“How is she?” he asked even as he changed into more comfortable clothes behind a curtain in the infirmary room.

Recovery Girl had already bandaged his wounds upon first seeing him.

“She is simply exhausted. It must have taken a lot out of her to heal Aizawa.” Said Recovery Girl. “As you well know, her healing capacity is tied deeply to her own life force and healing more than she is ready for could be fatal to her. However, it seems this time she just brought herself to the point of exhaustion.”

Toshinori clenched his fists tightly at his side. If only he had arrived sooner… if only he had been on time, none of this would’ve happened.

With a sigh, he finished dressing and stepped out and towards the bed his little princess was laying in. He took her slight hand in his own bigger one.

“So she only needs rest?”

“Yes, she’ll be alright as long as she takes it easy for a couple of days.”

A knock at the door interrupted their conversation as Present Mic entered with a half-awake Aizawa hanging off him.

“Set him on this bed.” Instructed Recovery Girl signaling to the next bed over. “I want to check him over.”

Aizawa didn’t complain, likely knowing how useless it would be. After a few minutes, the woman shook her head and stepped back from him.

“Well, you were indeed lucky that Yumi-chan healed you or you would probably be dealing with some side effects on your eyes alone, that’s without taking into account the fractures in your arms.”

“But there won’t be any effects now?” asked Present Mic looking concerned.

“No, still…” continued the woman when Aizawa was just opening his mouth. “I want you to stay overnight to make sure everything is in order. If it is, you’ll be able to leave tomorrow.”

Aizawa closed his mouth, looking disgruntled.

“I’ll go let the others know.” Said Present Mic with an almost normal tone of voice.

“What about Yumi-hime? Can she go home?” asked Toshinori.

“Yes, of course, though I guess we’ll have to call someone to help you carry her. You’re at your limit and she’s not a little kid anymore.”

All Might almost frowned at the casual mention of his little princess was growing up. Of course she still was a little kid, seventeen or not, she’d always be his little kid.

Just then there was a knock at the door and a familiar face popped in. Toshinori brightened visibly.

“Tsukauchi! You’re here too?”

“Indeed, I’m here to speak to you about the villains and ask about my favorite niece, of course.” He said walking in.

“She is just exhausted; it apparently took a lot out of her to heal Aizawa-san.” Explained Toshinori. “Naomasa Tsukauchi, this is Shota Aizawa, Yumi-hime’s tutor. Aizawa-san, this is my friend from the police, Tsukauchi.”

With introductions out of the way and Tsukauchi’s worries about Yumi assuaged, Toshinori asked about the students and Thirteen. Tsukauchi spoke of how Thirteen was stable and the students had nothing but a few scrapes.

“I see. That’s good to hear.”

Aizawa was just as relieved to hear none of his kids were hurt, though he threw a sideways look to the problem child lying on the next bed over.

“Now, would you like to speak here about what happened or do you and Yumi-hime have permission to go home?”

They were on their way out of the infirmary when they were intercepted.

At the head of the group was Shinso, easily recognizable by his light purple hair, followed by Fumikage, Mezo and Todoroki. They were followed by Kirishima and Izuku, who at the same time was followed by his own group consisting of Asui, Uraraka, Tenya and Mineta.

The group stopped a respectable distance away and bowed in greeting.

“Detective Tsukauchi. Are you Yumi-hime’s father?” asked Kirishima then looking at the other man.

Despite having spent an afternoon at her house, they still hadn’t officialy met the man.

He had the same hairstyle as their red-headed friend, but her hair was a bright blonde color. He had big blue eyes and a skeletal frame. He looked like a man who’d seen better days.

“I am.” Nodded the blonde clearing his throat. “Yagi Toshinori. And you must be my little princess’ friends.” He said as if he were guessing.

“How is she?” asked Shinso taking a step forward, not having taken his eyes off her the whole time.

Tsukauchi stood next to Toshinori, with Yumi’s cutely sleeping face resting on his shoulder from where she was resting on his back.

“She is tired, but nothing a good night of sleep and a couple days of rest won’t solve.” Said Toshinori, assuaging some of the boys’ fears. “She’ll be fine in no time. Now, if you’ll excuse us, I’d like her to get home and rest properly.”

With that and a polite nod, both men continued on their way out of school, leaving the teens behind looking much less worried.

Nobody but Shinso noticed but, upon them leaving their sight, Todoroki stood there for a moment simply staring at his left hand.

The next day after the villain attack at the USJ the school was closed and classes cancelled, but on the next she managed to convince her father to let her return.

As such, she was the last to arrive and everyone was already present when she knocked on the door.

“Yumi-hime!”

“Yumi-chan!”

“Yagi-chan!”

She smiled, startled, and waved at her worried classmates before noticing Aizawa-sensei at the front desk.

“Sorry to interrupt, sensei.”

“Go take a seat, Yagi.”

She did so, making her way to the only free desk next to Shinso and Fumikage.

“As I was saying, the UA festival will be taking place soon.”

After a few queries about if it was safe after what happened at the USJ and everything, the students were only left with the excitement. Their first UA festival!

“Heroes from all over the world be watching!” said Yaoyorozu.

Aizawa gave them a short speech about the importance of the event for their future careers and then gave them some time to think it over.

“Yagi, with me.” He said then.

Yumi stood, a little curious as to what he might want with her. He didn’t speak until the door was firmly closed behind them.

“First of all, I wanted to thank you for your assistance during the attack.” He began. “Recovery Girl is sure that I would’ve had side effects if not for your Quirk. That said, don’t do it again.”

“Healing you, sir?” she asked, confused.

“Putting your life at risk by healing someone. A hero must always know their own limits. It’s no use if you save someone from dying of a wound if you can’t keep moving to save them from other threats.”

“I’ll keep it in mind, sir.” She answered a bit sheepishly, recognizing the truth of his words.

“Good. Now, I want to arrange one-on-one training sessions for you. I’ve already taken it upon myself to help young Shinso, so I’ve spoken with Midnight and she’s accepted to teach you a few things.”

Although it was a bit of a bummer that she wouldn’t be learning more directly from her favorite Pro Hero, she was happy for her best friend and also very aware that Midnight was a very strong Pro Hero too.

“She will probably speak to you about it on your next class, I just wanted you to know.”

“Understood. Anything else, Aizawa-sensei?”

“No, Yagi, you can go back to class.”

When she went back into the class, she was soon surrounded by her friends.

“What did Aizawa-sensei want?”

“He’s arranging some extra classes for me.” She answered with a shrug.

“He’ll want us all to do our best in the festival.” Added Fumikage. “And your Quirk is pretty similar to his, not really geared for frontal confrontation, so it makes sense.”

Yumi nodded, but left out the bit about Shinso’s own classes. If the teen wanted them to know, he’d tell them himself when he felt comfortable.

“Oh, I made some cookies for us all to share.” She said at the sudden memory and taking out a recipient filled to bursting. “Daddy wouldn’t let me do anything else yesterday.”

“Are you recovered?” asked Shoji accepting a cookie. “You still look tired.”

“I’m fine, I’ll be right as rain in no time.”

“You better be. I wouldn’t want anyone saying I won against you in the festival only because you were weakened.” Said Shinso with a small smirk.

Yumi laughed, delighted.

“I’ll kick your ass, Hitoshi. You’ll see.”

“We all will.” Intervened finally Todoroki. “We’re all rivals for the festival.”

After those words, they all exchanged a look charged of meaning. Despite what happened in the festival, it would not impact their friendship.
