Meeting

17th december 1981

“But it’ll be fun!”

“For you.”

“Excuse me, old grandpa.”

“Sirius, for the tenth time, I’m not going anywhere on your motorcycle.“

They were seated on the sofa early in the evening; Harry was sleeping upstairs and while Remus decided to have some peace before having a long monday full of asking for jobs, but Sirius wasn’t thinking of the same thing clearly.

“Why can’t you stop acting like you are 80 for once, c’mon!”

“If I’m that boring and old, go with Mary or your brother or something, I don’t care.”

“I can’t hook up with either of them. You’re being rude.”

“Again, I don’t care, just let me read.” He kept reading A room with a view by E. M. Forster, slowly flipping the page and sometimes underlining some phrases he liked with a tiny pencil.

Sirius used to always find Remus' reading time beautiful –he loved seeing him immersed in the book, expressing with little gestures what those lines made him feel, and then he would sometimes talk for hours about it if Sirius asked and it happened to be a good one. Even if Sirius didn’t really get what he was talking about, he loved to have the werewolf that happy about something.

They used to do this since Howgarts, when Lily and Remus started recommending each other's books and non-stop talking about them. Although that made James and Sirius sneak in their things to be part of the chat and try to make some moves, they would always end up failing and saying something completely out of context that didn’t really make sense with the plot of the book.

But things changed when in 6th year Remus found a poem between the homework he borrowed to Sirius. He asked later about it, and the dark haired boy filled his cheeks with a red bright tone.

Oh, what a day.

All of this conversation made him realise that his lover was also recovering little by little about what happened in October, and the grumpy and sarcastic Remus was back in town. But nonetheless, that kind of Remus was’t helping at the moment.

“When you ask me later for help, you’ll regret the answer you just said to me.”

“For sure.” The werewolf answered without taking his look from the book.

“Fuck off, Moony.” He went to the entrance while muttering some insults to Remus “You’re so… Infuriating, merlin.” Sirius picked up the helmet and opened the door, to suddenly find a grey striped cat seated in front of the door with a deep look.

“Minnie!”

“So, Why do we have the pleasure for?

“Mr. Dumbledore has sent me to know how is Harry, as…”

“Why didn’t he come?” Remus said curtly.

“Well, he has been busy with The Order after all that happened, that is why I am here. But he would have loved to be here, I assure you.”

“Sure.” Sirius just added sarcastically, glazing to his boyfriend and exchanging all the words they needed with their eyes. “Well, he’s been really fine with us.”

“I am glad to hear that.”  Mcgonagall replied, taking a sip from her cup of tea.

“Didn't you trust us, Minnie?” Sirius laughed while sitting more comfortably on the sofa.

“Do not call me like that Mr. Black, I beg you.”

“Oh, c’mon Minerva, we are friends now. No more teacher-student relationship, I’ve been waiting literally ages to call you Minnie.”

“You should not, then.” She said with an annoyed look. “And who came up with that name? It is almost… insulating.”

“Moony…I mean, Remus did.”

“Shut up, Pads!”

“Mr. Lupin?” Minerva looked at him with a disappointed look as he stared at his cup, drinking the coffee in it abruptly. Sirius, for his part, tried not to laugh as the few awkward seconds of silence passed in, thinking how James would have loved that scene.

“It’s a pretty cool nickname.” Remus muttered, receiving another look from one that used to be their teacher.

“Well, talking about Mr. Lupin, we have a vacancy in Hogwarts for the DADA’s class, next year. We have been searching for one person to take it and we have noticed the fact that you have been looking for a job lately, as Mr. Black is now being prepared to work as an Auror. We know by experience that you had the best grades of your promotion, and we would love to have you teaching in Hogwarts, if you like.”

“Who are ‘we’, exactly?” Sirius asked.

“Well, ‘we’ are all the teachers from the institution.”

“Including Snape? Severus Snape?”

“Yes, of course.”

“Well, that was unexpected.”

“And what about me being a werewolf?” Remus’s face changed completely, now being static and not moving an inch.

“We will do the same as we used to when you were studying, and we will be adding the new potions that the ministry of magic are incorporating. I am sure Madam Pomfey will love to see you again.”

“But this is not about Pomfey. And not about me. It’s about all those kids that are going to be in danger again just because of me. And what about those stupid potions? They are new, and we don’t know the side effects. I don’t even know what the fuck the potions are going to do. And I don’t have a clue on what I’m supposed to do, as you’ve said. I don’t know why you’ve chosen me for this, but if it was Dumbledore, he clearly sounds like an idiot to me.”

“You should not talk like that, Mr. Lupin.”

“Well, I did. I’m sorry Minerva, I really appreciate you and the fact that you’ve come, but understand my position.”

“I do, and that is why you should not take it as a duty, it is not. You have eight months to think about it, but do not say no already, I beg you. We will try our best to help you as much as we can.”

“Sure.” He shortly replied, looking away.

Sirius didn’t dare to say anything else as he knew how much that affected Remus. He couldn’t stop remembering that full moon on fifth grade, when he fucked up the whole friendgroup just to get revenge from Severus. Remus spent the rest of the year not talking even a word to him, and this, in the middle of their ‘what-the-fuck-is-happening’ affair, broke them a little. Of course they got together again and forgot it, but the fear of Remus hurting someone because of his lycanthropy increased widely. Since they got Harry in the house, he was clearly anxious about the full moon day, which was just a few days apart.

He would have loved to tell him that everything would be okay and he had nothing to be afraid of, and he tried a lot of times, but it was Remus we were talking about. To kiss his nukes and tell him how much he loved him, but he didn’t need that now. He needed space, and he was going to give Remus whatever he asked for.

The day continued with Harry waking up in crocodile tears, and making the boy take him downstairs with them. Mcgonagall didn’t seem to know how to treat toddlers, but a huge smile appeared on her face when she saw those big green eyes that reminded her of Lily – her favourite student back then in their school years.

They continued talking and the mood lowered a bit with all the jokes and memories that they had. Talking to a teacher now that they were out of Hogwarts, especially Minerva, was calming and funny at the same time. She opened her eyes wide when she discovered more pranks she didn’t know about, and when Sirius gave Remus all the credits of the ideas, she sighed as the werewolf blushed and looked at his boyfriend with a killer gaze.

“I must go now,” Mcgonagall said while smiling to both of the men and standing up off the couch.

“Yeah, classes.” Sirius laughed, walking to the entrance next to Remus, and putting his hand on his waist. “Sucks to be you.”

“Lenguage, Mr.Black.”

“Of course, of course. I’m sorry.”

“Thanks for everything, boys. Take care.” The teacher took a second to look at Remus and  talk to him with her eyes. “Please, think about it, Mr.Lupin. I promise you will not regret it.”

“ We’ll see, Minerva.”

They said goodbye to each other with a shake of hands – Mcgonagall wasn’t really a hugger – And finally saw the cat go again, walking slowly across the dark road and not looking back.

“You could’ve shouted your mouth off for once.” Remus said while closing the door.

“Well, karma is my boyfriend.”

“Shut up, you idiot. I’m your boyfriend.” He wrapped his arms around Sirius’s waist and laid his head on his shoulder, breathing heavily. “I’m tired.”

“I know you don’t want to hear these right now, but you should check out the job. You would love it, I’m sure.”

“It's not about that, you know it.”

“Yeah, Moony, I know, but the fact that you are a werewolf can’t keep being a problem for everything you want to do. We should look for solutions and just live with it.”

“Just… I don’t want to talk about it now, please. I just want to eat dinner, take that sleepyhead to sleep again and kiss you.”

“Just kiss me? If you want to apologise properly, you have to give me more. I’m not that weak about you, Remus.”

“Oh, I’m almost feeling guilty. Just call me Remus a few times more instead of Moony and you’ll get me to cry the whole night.”

“Are you laughing at me?”

“Only if you want to.”

“You’re an idiot, Remus Lupin.” He looked at him and the werewolf kissed softly on his lips, and kept doing it a few more times as the dark haired boy smiled.

“Well, It looks like it’s working.”

“I don’t know, keep trying.”

“Uncle! I’m hungry!” Harry shouted almost crying from the living room.

“Coming!”

“What are these?” Remus asked, raising some papers full with phrases.

“W-What? What’s what?”

“Don’t act like an idiot, Pads.” He left his bag in the chair next to the door of their room and walked to Sirius's bed.

“Well, just…Just, y’know.”

“That’s exactly what I’m asking.”

“And why do you have that? A-and why do you ask me? I’m sure it is from James or from Peter, he’s been really romantic lately as you know.”

“It was in your homework, and it’s literally your letter. Just tell me, god. ”

“You’ve read them, you know what it is.”

“I want to hear it from you.”

“Why?”

“Because I thought that you found poetry ‘stupid’, as you said.”

“W-well, you are laughing at me right now.” Sirius extended his arm to catch the papers, but Remus was quicker and taller and lifted them up until he couldn’t reach them. “Moony, you idiot, give me those, damn it!”

Sirius throwed the boy down to him and climbed up to get them, making Remus laugh and try to fight  the other body.

“This is getting weird, Pads. You really want to go this way?”

“Shut the fuck up and give me those!”

“Oh, my boyfriend is a little Walt Whitman!”

“I hate you.” Sirius finally got to catch the poems as Remus changed their positions, getting up on him. “But I love to see you this happy, so I’ll just shut up.”

“Well I’ve had a good day knowing that I can laugh at you with another thing. So just shut up, you’re right.” He started giving Sirius wet kisses on his neck and making him blush with every little movement.

“Are you drunk? Or high?”

“- Oh to see your eyes, and your beautiful smile,

That one that fills mine…”

Sirius kissed him widely on the lips, blushing like he never did before. “Oh, shut up, shut up.You’re high.”

“But I’m not.”

“Yeah, sure.”
