Chapter 9 James and Peter

Remus excused himself from the room, leaving Sirius alone with Mr. and Mrs. Potter. The room was silent for a moment, but then Mrs. Potter woke up and noticed that Sirius was awake.

"Sirius, dear, I'm so sorry this happened to you," mrs Potter said, her voice full of concern.

"It's OK It's not your fault; it's my fault. If anything, shouldn't have played that prank. If I hadn't, none of this would've happened, and then I wouldn't have been injured, and you wouldn't have had to go out your way to come here." Sirius told mrs Potter.

"Don't say that, it's your mother's fault, not yours; she shouldn't have done what she did to you. It's not acceptable. A mother should never harm her child
ever. Let alone as bad as she has done to you, and I've got a feeling that she has harmed you before, just not as severely, and you didn't want to tell anyone, but it's OK. You're not going back there, and no one blames you for any of it. I know you are old enough to make your own choices, but you are always welcome at ours, just so you know that." Mrs Potter told Sirius.

"Was it really my father who brought me to your house?" Sirius asked.

"Yes it was, and I was surprised to see him. but he cares about you in his own way. He asked us to make him a promise that we wouldn't say what really happened for Regulus’s sake. We then got you here as fast as we could to make sure you were OK, and you can come back home with us and James, and you can live with us if you would like to, or you can go somewhere else. Whatever you decide, it'll be much better than at your house. And I know your new injury will be difficult for you to process, but you have time to think about it and come to terms with it, and you don't have to decide right now where you want to stay," Mrs Potter told Sirius.

Sirius then noticed that Mr. Potter was starting to wake up.

"I'm glad you're awake; that's good. James and Peter will be happy; they were up most of the night worrying about you. You know how they are, so it's good to see that you are awake and going to be OK," Mr Potter told Sirius.

"I kind of wish I hadn't done the prank; then you and the others wouldn't have had to come out here and worry so much." Sirius told Mr. and mrs Potter.

"As I said, it's fine. Don't worry about it. You can't turn back the clock, plus we worry about all of you. You're all so young, and at the moment, you're all going
through so much. And all those deaths that keep happening and what your mother did to you on top of everything else, it's a lot for anyone to deal with, especially someone so young." Mrs Potter told Sirius.

There was another moment of silence, and then Mr Potter spoke up. "We're just glad you're okay. We don't know what James Peter or Remus would have done if we had lost you," he said, his voice full of emotion.

Sirius felt tears prick at the corners of his eyes. He had always felt like a part of the Potter family, and their love and support meant the world to him.

"Thank you for everything; I don't think I've ever said it before," Sirius said

"We love you, Sirius. You're like a son to us, and we'll do everything we can to help you through this." Mrs Potter told Sirius, her voice full of warmth.

Sirius smiled at her. He knew that he had a long road ahead of him, having to get used to a leg brace and learn how to walk with a brace, cane and having no feeling in half his leg, but with the love and support of his friends and new family, he felt like he was ready to try and face it.

As the night wore on, they talked about everything that had happened, making plans for the future. And as he sat there, surrounded by the warmth and love of the Potter family, Sirius knew that he was exactly where he belonged.
