Chapter 4 Peter
Peter was in the middle of eating his dinner when he heard a loud bang come from upstairs. He immediately stood up and drew his wand. However, before he could take any further action, his mother intervened.
"I'll go and check it out. Stay with your dad," Mrs Pettigrew told Peter.
Peter was hesitant, but his mother rushed off before he could say or do anything.
"It's probably nothing bad; it’s probably just the dog, Pete. finish your dinner," Mr Pettigrew reassured him.
"You're probably right," Peter agreed before sitting back down to resume his dinner. A few minutes later, Mrs. Pettigrew returned, but she wasn't alone.
"Pete," James called out. Peter turned around to see James standing there.
"What are you doing here?" Peter asked him.
"It's Sirius; something awful has happened,' James replied.
"Whats happened?" Peter asked, getting up from his seat.
"I can't explain it here. I need you to come with me," James urged him.
Peter looked towards his parents for permission.
"Go, he's your friend. Be there for him," Mrs Pettigrew encouraged Peter.
"It's just that I'm sorry. You made this meal, and now it's going to waste," Peter apologised to his mother.
"It's okay. Please don't worry about it. Your friends are more important. Besides, the dog will be happy and well-fed. I'll make you something else when you return," Mrs Pettigrew reassured him.
"And I'm sorry for ruining your dinner and for breaking the flowerpot upstairs," James apologized.
"Don't worry about it. I understand you're worried about your friend, and besides, it's just a flowerpot—nothing important," Mrs Pettigrew told James.
James and Peter then quickly ran into the hallway, and James Apparated them to the hospital, arriving within minutes.
"Can you tell me what happened now? Have you told Remus yet?" Peter asked James with concern in his voice.
"Yes, I've already told him. He's here. I think he's sitting with Sirius. I didn't want to leave until Mooney was here. That's why I had to wait for him before coming to get you. My parents are there, but it will be better for Sirius when he wakes up if Mooney is there too" James explained to Peter.
"Wait, he's not awake?" Peter asked with concern.
"No, His mother went too far with a punishment. She did something to him, and I don't know what it is yet, but it's not good, Pete. It's been a few hours, and he still hasn't woken up," James revealed.
"How far did she go?" Peter asked with worry etched on his face.
"We don't know. All we know is that Sirius's father showed up at my parents' house with an unconscious Sirius and said he had to get him out of the house quickly. He believes that if
Sirius's mother punishes Sirius again, she'll end up killing him. Despite him and Sirius not getting on, Sirius's father doesn't want his son dead. My parents took him in and rushed him here to st mungos," James explained to Peter. "I was worried about him, and then my parents mentioned telling you and Mooney. I wanted to get Mooney here first so he could sit with Sirius, and then I'll tell you. You know, with the whole situation between them, I just thought of him first," James added.
"It's okay; I understand what you mean. What about Sirius's brother Regulus?" Peter asked.
"'He's fine, apparently. Their mother doesn't punish him; he does whatever she wants. You know how Sirius calls him a goody-two-shoes? Well, it seems like that might be a good thing
for now, " James replied.
Finally, Peter and James arrived at Sirius's room and peered through the window.
"Hopefully, he wakes up soon, and then we'll know what's going on with him," James expressed to Peter with a hint of worry in his voice.
Peter glanced over at James and noticed that he was starting to panic.
"James, are you okay?" Peter asked, concerned.
"Yeah, I am. I'm fine. It's nothing," James replied unconvincingly.
Observing James repeatedly run his hand through his hair, Peter suggested that he sit down.
"Yeah," James agreed before taking a seat. "It's not going to help Sirius if I get myself into a state " he added while trying to control his breathing. "It’s just that I don't understand how someone could do this to their own child. How could they look at them and cast a spell so filled with rage and hatred that they cause them harm?" James said.
"I don't know. I just hope it isn't too severe, whatever she did to him," Peter replied, hoping for the best.
"We can't tell anyone about what really happened. Sirius's father requested that my mum keeps quiet for Regulus's sake, so we can't reveal the truth to others," James informed Peter in a hushed tone.
" I won't tell anyone, I promise," Peter told James.
Peter then sat down next to James, and they both waited anxiously for any updates on Sirius's condition.
