“I fucked up. Rhodey, I fucked it up. The kid hates me! You should’ve seen his face. He. Hates. Me.” Tony bemoaned, burying his head in his hands. Rhodey scoffed.
“Tony, the kid hasn’t had the chance to even process all this shit, let alone decide how he feels about you. Yes, you might not have delivered that bit of information in the best way, but you haven’t ruined your entire relationship with your kid. It hasn’t even been a day. Get back in there and actually talk to him,” Rhodey said, walking over to the barstool Tony was sitting at. Tony sighed, swivelling around so he could see Rhodey.
“You’re right,” Tony murmured, slouching in defeat. Rhodey smirked, patting his friend on his back.
“Could I get that in writing?” Rhodey teased, drawing a smile out of Tony. They stood up and walked back over to the elevator.
“Not in a million years, Platypus,” Tony said as the doors closed between them. Tony took a deep breath, trying to mentally prepare himself.
91…90…89…
The elevator was silent, and Tony had never felt more claustrophobic as the sense of impending catastrophe only served to make the short ride last a century.
86…85…
Tony tapped his foot, wondering what the hell he should say. What was there to say?
81…80
The elevator doors opened with a chime, and Tony was face to face with Harry.
“...Going somewhere?” Tony hedged out. Harry was trying to leave. He wanted out. That made sense. Tony would want out to, if he were in Harry’s shoes.
“Not anymore,” Harry said, scowling. Tony hesitated, trying to hide his hurt from his expression.
“Right. Uhm, Dr. Cho told me you’re clear to be moved to your room if you don’t want to be in the medbay for another day,” Tony said, standing further back to create room in the elevator.
“My…room?” Harry said, looking so utterly confused that Tony felt his heart melt.
“Yeah kid, as soon as I heard about you I had a room made up. I’d really like it if you stayed with me,” Tony said, and when he saw Harry’s hesitant face, he continued. “At least give it a go, Harry,”
"Please?"
Harry was silent.
