It has been a few weeks into the new school year for Severus. He started to notice Regulus had been hanging out more and more with his brother while Narcissa sat alone In the common room, reading books or making homework. Always in the same spot, somewhere far away from the others.
And it wasn’t like Severus was a stalker or anything, but he would sit in the same spot last year. He didn’t have the heart to tell her so he just kept his distance. Till today, Severus had been walking around the library to do some research for class.
He felt a soft tap on his shoulder and turned around, now standing eye to eye with Narcissa, she looked nervous “I uhm… I am trying to find Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger, but I have... Uhm I can't find it” She whispers, Severus was unsure if it was because of the room they were in or if she was just that Nervous.
He looked at the small pile of books in his hand, on top was the exact copy she probably needed. And she needed it more than he did, so he handed it to her with a small smile on his face “I’m Severus” he says. Narcissa nodded and it took her a second or two to reply “Narcissa” she simply says before quickly walking away, leaving Severus confused in the isle filled with books. He just stared at the exit of it wondering if he did something wrong
So he did what he was planning on doing at first, grabbing the last book he needed and walking back to the common room.
As he walked in he saw Narcissa in another spot than usual, it took him quite a while to get there, as he first visited Slughorn. But when she was entirely in sight he noticed she was crying. He looked around to see if anyone could’ve caused it but when he didn’t see anyone he got confused. “Are you okay?” He asks, unsure if she’d even reply, and walks towards her. She shook her head as she kept it on her knees, not looking up at who was asking.
 Severus could hear the door of the common room open, so he did what he could first think of “come on” he said as he placed his hand on her shoulder, she does as he demanded and stood up. Severus led her to his dorm, first making sure no one was in there before walking in and sitting her down on his bed.

“Would you like to tell me what’s wrong?” he asks to whisper, she shook her head again but Severus nodded “Stay here, I’ll be right back” he looked at her for a second as he walked out.
What was he supposed to do now? He never comforted anyone before. Does he just get her a glass of water or something? He looked around the common room as an idea hit him, candy. I mean what child doesn’t like candy?
So he went to the kitchen, making sure he was back as soon as possible, avoiding the house elves while sneaking some candy out. He didn’t know which ones she liked, so he took a little bit of everything with him.
He got some weird looks as he walked through the corridors, but he was used to that. He didn’t care either, he just had to get back in his dorm before anyone else did.
Severus sneaked back into the common room, a boy from his year tried to talk to him but he simply ignored the other. Leaving him with even more questions about the homework they had, but Severus simply couldn’t care about him.
Narcissa had taken Severus’ blanket and wrapped it around her as a little child would do. She looked like a little white ball as she tried to stay silent and not cry again.
Severus walks in and questions the thing he saw but shrugs it off “I got you some candy” he says hopefully as he dropped it all on his bed. He could see Narcissa looking at it but she seemed distant “Go on, you can take some” he encouraged her as he took a piece himself, sitting down next to her. Narcissa smiles softly as she also took a little piece. It was silent for a while as they just sat together

“Some people were pretty rude to me…” Severus looks up as Narcissa finally said something “What did they say?” She seemed to have taken interest in looking at her hands, or she was just avoiding eye contact. Severus couldn’t tell. “Some stuff about my family… Stuff like ‘you’re adopted, you don’t look like them’ ‘You are going to be an evil witch, we all know that’… stuff like that” It seemed to really bother her.
 Severus just nodded, he wasn’t sure what to answer or do. So they just sat there in silence again, eating candy. And staring at their surroundings, they did that for a few more hours. He enjoyed her presence more than he expected.



A few weeks went by and they’ve been hanging out a lot, mostly in the library but also in their dorms and all that. Though no one seemed to have noticed they were friends. Not even Lucius, Lucius was a classmate of Severus.
Narcissa and he had become friends over those weeks and one day he said “You should meet Severus, I think you and him would be great friends” while they were studying. Which Narcissa agreed to, knowing what was about to happen.
They walked to the Slytherin common room together where Severus was sitting on the couch “Severus my guy!” the boy looked up, already annoyed at Lucius “Meet... Narcissa, the purest of wizarding blood” Severus frowns but goes along with it as Lucius pulls Narcissa in front of him.
 “Hello there” he simply said, a smile forming on his lips but he quickly corrected it and went back to his usual, stern face. Narcissa did smile back and waves “Hey!” She started opening herself up more and more since she became friends with these two, she was still jealous of her cousins and sisters but she hid that as always.

They continued to hang out a lot with the 3 of them for a few more weeks till Lucius started to become distant, especially towards Narcissa. But she didn’t mind. Severus and she grew a lot closer, now spending every minute possible together.
Narcissa had started a habit of stealing Severus his blanket whenever she could and keeping it. While Severus had taken a habit of bullying Narcissa about how bad she was at potions. They both found their new best friend
