The Slytherin Harper

Draco waited until Ianto was settled in one of Remus’ old oversized jumpers, watching a movie with Bill, Fleur, Ginny and Luna keeping an eye on him before saying he was going for a walk. In reality, he was going hunting, Owen Harper hunting. It was surprisingly easy to find and gain access to his flat.

He was waiting in the kitchen of the flat with two cups of tea when the younger man arrived back from the hospital. Draco lying in wait scared the shit out of Owen.

“What the fuck, Malfoy! What are you doing here?!” Owen shouted at the other man.

“You haven’t changed much, I see.” Draco commented cooly. “Still snarky. However, you’ve made a mistake. I’m here to give you a warning. Neglect my cousin’s health again, and I'll personally put you in St Mungos. He was almost killed out there, and you focused on the muggle girl who just wants in your pants. Not to mention Ms Sato, the poor dear muggle who was almost sexually assaulted. You call yourself a doctor but ignore most of your patients. What was the one rule I gave people at school? Don’t mess with Ianto. I hurt more than one older student for it. Not to mention his fathers could have done more damage than I could ever do back then.” his voice stayed monotone and serious. “A falsely accused and imprisoned mass murderer and a werewolf.” Draco handed him one of the cups of tea.

“But his file-” Owen began to protest, his mind racing as he held onto the mug.

“Do you think he would have told Hartman the truth? Of course not. He needed a way into their ranks, so he changed his age to do so. He never fixed it because of how much work he does. How much would hardman have loved a child of a werewolf to experiment on? A wizard who fought in the war. My cousin didn’t need or deserve to be a lab rat for that crazed muggle obsessed with an empire that no longer existed.” Draco told him, his voice cold but angry.

“Who else is involved in this?” Owen asked, now worried, mind still racing.

“Gwen’s boyfriend, Rhys, was a Hufflepuff. Be careful with that woman, and don’t think with your dick.”

“She brags about him but wants in my pants. I’m fucked if I ever sleep with her, which I don’t plan on. But she's been trying. I flirt, but that's more trying to distract myself from my grief than actually meaning it. She could never shine a light on Katie or you. I’d rather have you in my bed than her.” Owen admitted before clamping a hand over his own mouth out of shock at what he had just said.

“You still have a crush on me?” Draco asked, shocked by the admission.

“You knew! You knew I had a crush and ignored me?” Owen felt both anger and fear rise in him as he spoke.

“I heard rumours. You just confirmed those rumours. I wasn’t exactly the kind of guy to date back then, and by the time the war ended, it was already decided who I’d marry. I was also a shitty person. Would you have really wanted to stay with me if I was like that? If I haven’t grown up and become my own person instead of what my father made me into from a young age?”

“Probably not thinking about it. How is Astoria?” Owen admitted before inquiring.

“You’re trying to change the subject, but she’s alright. We have a son now. The marriage doesn't hold much love, but we make it work, and divorce is hard on children, especially young ones. I’m sorry about Katie, by the way. You two would have been happy together. An alien parasite sounds worse than a dementor’s kiss. At least you can stop a kiss, but she never had a chance, did she?” Draco was remorseful of Katoe’s death. He wished she could have survived even if he had never met her.

“No, she didn’t. As soon as it entered her brain, she was dead. I was actually going to tell her about the magical world after the surgery, but she was already gone. It’s how I ended up here. Jack was there that day and turned up at her grave. He offered me the job. I had nothing left to lose, so I took him up on the offer.” Owen told him as he finished his tea.

“Ianto is fond of your captain, Jack. So is miss Cooper. I’d suggest making it up to Ianto and finding a way to keep Cooper in line.”

“I’ll keep that in mind, Draco. How bad are his injuries?”

“Broken, fractured and bruised bones. A dislocated ankle, and a mild to moderate concussion. His left kidney is swollen, and he is covered in deep harsh bruises. Susan was shocked he was walking and talking. She’s treated what she could, but you need to make up for not checking on him. He could have died for merlin’s sake. How did you never check him?”

“I wanted out of there okay. Also, he seemed fine. He even refused to let paramedics look at him. Tosh even got treated by paramedics. What was I meant to do? He didn’t want help from anyone. Look, I’ll check in with him, and make sure he’s healing well with Susan’s treatments. Even make friends with him but act snarky and stuff at work so no one realises something’s changed or is wrong. How about that?” Owen felt guilty for failing his team, his patients.

“Sounds like a good plan, I’ll be sticking around to make sure he’s actually keeping up with his potions, so I’ll be sure you follow that plan. Fleur, Bill, Ginny and Luna are currently looking after him. George is going out with Rhys shortly after checking on the joke shop. Rhys wants to know all about what's happening at work. I think he’ll leave her upon learning the truth from the horse’s mouth. So I would suggest recording any ill behaviour of her’s” Draco told him honestly as he moved to wash his mug in the sink.” I’m unsure if anyone’s seen to ms Sato ye. It may be an idea to check on her. She may need a healer over a muggle doctor and medicines. Does Torchwood know about our word truly, or was it just Hartmen? Would it be illegal to tell her?”

“Torchwood does know, We have the same levels of secrecy, plus we work with aliens. It would probably be fine to tell her, but I’d rather Gwen didn’t find out about any of this. Ianto’s parentage, the magical world, Rhys being a wizard or anything because who knows how she’ll react. Jack knows from what I’ve figured out. He has secret calls that aren’t with Unit or the government.” Owen explained, moving to re-boil the kettle.

“Then we should go see her, Before Gwen tries to come here-” Draco began, only to be interrupted by a knock on the front door. “I spoke too soon and jinxed it, typical. You should go answer it.” he drawled.

Owen already knew it would be Gwen even before he answered the door. Indeed when he opened the door, Gwen was standing on the other side.

“What do you want now? You’ve already been treated, and I don’t enjoy interruptions or house calls.” Owen told her, already fed up.

“That kiss before it all went tosh it, can we do that again? Maybe go further than just a kiss?”

“No. Go home to Rhys. You know your boyfriend.”

“He’s out with one of his old classmates catching up, and I don’t want to be alone.”

Draco stepped into Gwen’s line of sight in the hallway from the kitchen. “We were just planning on going to grab a few ourselves. You’d find it dreadfully boring; failed relationships, our families, jobs and the like. Boarding schools are rather dull, so catching up is a chance to know each other better. How rude of me. I haven't introduced myself, Draco Malfoy. Though I must admit, I already know who you are, Miss Cooper. I’m in town visiting my cousin. It was by chance I found out Owen lived in the city too.” Draco gave Gwen one of his trademark smirks.

“How do you know who I am?” Gwen was suspicious of how he could know who she was.

“I told him. He wanted to know about my work and who I worked with. I had no idea Ianto was his cousin. I wasn’t all that focused on my classmates back then. Draco was an expectation. Now can I finish getting ready to go? I’ve barely gotten in from dropping you off. I haven’t even had time to shower. Barely had time to have a cuppa. Just go home.” Owen was angered but was thankful for Draco’s help and lied to Gwen. However, he knew she wasn’t done.

“What do you mean he’s Ianto’s cousin? “ Gwen was annoyed at being brushed off.

“Our grandmothers were sisters. That’s how cousins work, is it not? The tree is very complicated from their generation going back. Intermarrying and incest were sadly common. His maternal grandparents were second cousins like he and I are. We are a third of what’s left of the family. My mother and our shared aunt are the second third, and then you have Teddy, Ianto’s half-brother, and finally, you have Scorpius, my son. Now I suggest you leave us be, Miss Cooper. Owen shouldn’t be going out reeking of blood and death. I doubt we’d be served anywhere.” Draco explained, already trying to control his urge to reach past Owen and slam the door in her face.

“I can’t argue with him there, probably get the police called on me smelling like this. I’ll see you when you return from medical leave, Gwen.” Owen smiled as he slammed the door in her face before relaxing slightly.

Draco smiled and ushered Owen to his bathroom. “Go on. I'll wait in your living room. You definitely need to shower before we leave. I’d offer to find you an outfit, but that would be an invasion of privacy.

Owen rolled his eyes but grabbed a shower nonetheless.
