Family Probems

There was only a week left before the baby was born. They were sitting out on the porch of their house as the full moon shined brightly above them. Sirius' baby bump had grown significantly. Remus rubbed Sirius’ tummy fondly and thought about the child inside it. Sirius wanted to give it a lovely childhood.

He thought about his childhood and shivered. He thought about the marks of the sharp manicured nails of his mother engraved on his cheek. He thought of the way in a fit of anger Walburga had held his neck angrily against the wall, red-hot anger flashing in her eyes. He recalled the countless nights he spent hungry and alone. And then he remembered his mother’s crying face, the way she came back into his room at night, tears in her eyes, telling him that what she was doing was for his good and promising to never treat him like that again. Sirius believed her, like a fool, only to be beaten up again the next day.

‘The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.’, he thought. What if he turned out to be like his mother? Abusive and manipulative. Or worse, his father? heartless and negletfull. He bit his lip. The child inside him certainly did not deserve that kind of childhood. No one did.

“What are you thinking about, my darling?”Remus pulled Sirius into his neck and placed a sweet kiss on his head. Sirius didn’t say anything. He gently stroked his tummy humming a soft tune. “Moony,'' he said sharply. Tears began forming in his silver eyes. “What if I’m like them?” He asked him scaredly. Remus tilted his head towards him and smiled his lovely little smile.

“You’re nothing like them.”, he assured him, “You never were, you never will be.” These words still didn’t comfort him. “But Remus.”, he said, “That’s the only childhood I’ve ever known. My childhood was full of my fucking mother beating me up and my father sleeping with countless women and-”, he buried his face into Remus’ shoulder with a soft sob.

“Love.”, Remus held him close, “The kid in there,”Remus smiled at him, “is going to love you. And you are going to love it. You are going to be the greatest mother ever. I just know it, just look at Dilan how happy he is with you” Sirius looked up at him, “You think so?”

“Oh I know so.”Remus' bright brown eyes shimmered in the night. The moonbeams seemed to dance in them as they stared at Sirius. Sirius loved Remus. Sirius would love their child as much.

“Have I ever told you that I love you?”, he looked up at him.

“Sirius, darling, we’re married-”

“I love you so fucking much.”

“Simp.”

“Babe, can you help me?” Sirius asks, out of breath.

“Yeah.” Remus goes over and kneels in front of his husband to help him.

Sirius was sitting at the edge of their bed with his legs open wide as he struggled to get on his socks. Being nearly nine months pregnant made it extremely difficult for Sirius to do anything at this point because of the extra weight he was carrying around and how big he was. He looked like he swallowed an extra large watermelon and according to his doctor, their baby boy was measuring to be eight pounds already.

Remus slid on the wool socks and helped him squeeze his swollen feet into his winter boots then pulled him off the bed.

As soon as Sirius was up, he felt a dull pain in the lower portion of his belly. “Ooh wait for a minute baby.” Sirius lowered himself back onto the bed and pressed a firm hand to his belly as he breathed through the slight aching pain.

He thinks they are false contractions since he’s had three of them throughout the morning.

“You alright?” Remus asks, watching his husband take slow breaths while feeling around his belly.

“Yeah.” Sirius exhales. “Just some cramps.”

“You sure?”

Sirius doesn’t answer right away. He waits for the pain to subside to tell his husband, “Yes. I’m fine babe. I wanna go before the snow comes.” He says.

“Okay.” Remus drawls. “Are you sure you want to go out today? We can stay home and just order everything and have it shipped to us overnight.”

Sirius shakes his head while pulling on his jacket, “No I want to get what I need before the storm.”

Remus sighs again knowing he wasn’t going to win this round. He never wanted to push Sirius’ buttons but he also didn’t want to risk anything happening to him or their baby while they were gone.

With Sirius being almost at his due date, Remus didn’t feel it was safe for them to be spending the day out shopping and walking around when Sirius can barely do things by himself as is.

Of course, Sirius had some Christmas shopping to do before the baby came so he had asked his husband to take him to the shops before this huge snowstorm was supposed to come. They were expecting at least a few feet of snow so not only was he going to finish his Christmas shopping but he wanted them to get some last-minute supplies just in case they were to lose power.

Sirius continued to bundle himself up while Remus stood there and checked on his son Dilan who was still sleeping, after the long night he spent playing with his father.

As he was pulling on his scarf, he looked up in the mirror and saw his husband had a determined look on his face. He knew Remus was wanting them to stay home but Sirius needed to get to the stores to get the sales on the items he plans to purchase.

“Baby, I’m fine.” Sirius declares and walks a few feet over to the stairs where his husband was standing. He lifts Remus’ hand and brings it to his belly, having him feel their little boy. “We’re okay.” He reminds.

“I know but-” Remus smiles up at his husband as the baby kicks. “I guess our son is telling me that momma’s okay.”

“Yes, he is.” Sirius grins. “Momma’s fine and ready to go before it's too late.” He says and gets on his tiptoes to kiss his husband. Their lips clasp together as they share a wet kiss before pulling away for a second and going in for another.

Four kisses later, Remus got up and finished getting ready himself, then the two ventured out to the Camaro so they could get done with whatever shopping they could.

---

Remus and Sirius were at the mall getting what they needed to finish the rest of their Christmas shopping.

They first stopped at Macy’s to pick up a stainless steel Kitchen Aid mixer Sirius had pre-ordered for Regulus along with a set of dishes and glasses for his new apartment since he just moved out of his mom’s place.

Sirius made his husband bring all that to the car since it was too heavy to carry around. Once that was taken care of, they went to other stores to shop and find things for their friends and family, just some odds and ends.

They had found their way into Pottery Barn and of course, Sirius needed to get some more decorations for their house as well as just some essentials he felt would look great in their home.

Sirius didn’t want to get anything too big or too heavy to carry around so he made sure he’d ask himself if he wanted it or not.

He ended up getting new curtains for their bedroom and the living room as well as some throw pillows for their couches. He also got something for the baby’s nursery, a little planter in the shape of a cloud that he planned to put a fake succulent in to add some greenery to his room.

After Pottery Barn, Sirius dragged his husband over to Gymboree to get some more clothes for their son. Remus thought he had enough clothes to last him at least a few years but as Sirius told him, “A boy can never own too many clothes.” But he wasn’t going to stereotype it and just get his boyish things so he made it an equal playing field. He got some boyish outfits for him and some gender-neutral ones so that when he was old enough to understand, he’d have the choice as to what he wanted to wear.

Anyway, since Gymboree was having their annual Christmas sale he decided to splurge and get some items for his baby before his arrival.

While he was looking through the racks of clothes he started to get a contraction. He’s had several since they got to the mall but hasn’t told his husband because he didn’t want him to worry. So Sirius kept quiet and continued to browse through all the clothes getting outfits in a variety of months because he knew babies grew very quickly, especially his baby who already feels like he was the size of a toddler in his belly.

Sirius ended up getting more outfits and even some headwraps, more socks, and quite a few footie pajamas since they were at the beginning of winter and he didn’t want his little babe to be getting cold.

He went to go find his husband, who was holding the rest of the clothes Sirius made him carry.

“Remus?” He calls out and sees the brown haired approach him with tons of clothes hanging off his arms, along with their shopping bags.

“You ready?” Remus asks and Sirius nods, leading them toward the checkout counter.

There wasn’t a long line so they waited a few minutes and while they were standing there, Sirius was hit with another contraction but this time it hurt way worse than they’d been.

He tries not to make much of a fuss and quietly hisses to himself as his hand drops to the cup under his belly. “Not now.” He whispers, quiet enough for his husband not to hear him.

By the time they had gotten up to the counter, the pain hadn’t gone away.

Sirius suddenly gripped his husband’s arm as this feeling inside him clenched then he felt a release that soaked his legs, causing him to gasp.

“Uh-oh.” He looks down at the mess in between his legs then looks up seeing the very frightened looks of his husband and the cashier.

“Sirius, did you?” Sirius nods, answering his question.

Remus then starts to nod, seeming in a state of shock that this was happening. He couldn’t find his voice to speak and just stood there, staring at his husband who was in labor.

“I’ll call for an ambulance!” The cashier says and quickly dials the number.

“No…don’t” He said to the cashier

“The storm’s already started! It’s pretty bad out there!” Another one interjects.

“We’ll never make it.” Sirius exhales, puffing his cheeks. “You need...to take me... back home,” He says to his husband. “Right now.”

“W-What?” Remus stuttered.

“I am not having this baby in this store, Remus! Get me to the car!” Sirius knew he was nervous, hell he was as white as a ghost, but he also knew that Remus was going to be fine.

“Baby, listen to me.” Sirius holds his husband’s face in his hands, having Remus look right into his eyes. “I need you to take me home okay? I need you to do this for me. I know you’re scared...I’m scared too but please we’ll be okay.” He says and Remus nods.

“Okay…” He speaks and relaxes a bit. “Okay, let’s go.”

Before they walk out, Sirius stops him. “Wait, our stuff.”

“We’ll take care of it!” The girl says at the counter. Remus quickly scribbles down their name, phone number, and address so she could hold it aside for them as long as they needed while the other employee helped him take Sirius out to the car.

When they got outside, the snow was indeed coming down harder than he thought and he hoped and prayed they made it.

The girl stayed as Remus got his husband into the car and she put their bags into the backseat so they weren’t in the way of anything.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to call for help?” She asks, chewing on her lip.

“We’ll make it,” Sirius tells her and feels around his belly knowing another contraction was coming. “Thank you though, for-for your help.”

“You’re welcome. Please be careful.”

“We will,” Remus tells her before he closes Sirius’ door and jogs around to the other side.

This baby couldn’t pick a worse time to come.

As Remus drove through the city, stopping at almost every block, the pain started to grow worse and Sirius couldn’t get comfortable in the seat.

He started to feel a lot of pressure down by his entrance and groaned, puffing out his cheeks to breathe. Sweat was already forming on his forehead and his belly was so sore from all the contractions and constant stretching.

“Baby I have to push! I can’t wait any longer! He’s coming now!” Sirius loudly groaned from the discomfort and unbuckled his seatbelt. He reached down and pulled the lever to recline the seat back. With some effort, he pulled his pants down and spread his legs, bringing them up to the dashboard.

“I need to push Remus! He’s coming out of me! I have to push!”

“Okay, okay. Do you want me to pull over?”

“No! Keep driving!” Sirius urges and brings his hands down to feel between his legs.

“Okay. Just do what you have to babe. I’m gonna get us there as fast as I can! Just push when you have to Sirius, okay? You can do this.” He says and puts his hand out.

Sirius squeezed it and nodded at his words. “I can do this.” He repeated and closed his eyes waiting for the contraction.

As soon as the pain comes, Sirius takes a deep breath and pushes, already feeling the burn of his head.

“Agh! Holy shit it burns!” He screams but keeps pushing knowing he’ll be out soon enough. “Can you see anything?” He asks with a whimper in his voice.

Remus peeked over and he started to smile again. “I think I can see his head. He’s coming.”

“Okay.” Sirius sighs and continues to push with each contraction that comes.

Sirius kept his hands near his entrance feeling his head press against his fingers as he worked to push his through. This was definitely how he planned on giving birth to him, nor where he was giving birth to him but there was no stopping this. He was coming and he was coming fast.

He remembered to stop and breathe when he knew he needed to.

As they approached yet another red light, Sirius heaved a deep breath and bore down causing his head to pop out in a gush of fluids that soaked the seat.

“Okaaay.” He shakily exhales feeling that his head was out. “Okay baby, you’re almost here.” He pants “You’re almost here, love.”

“Keep pushing baby, you’re doing so good.” Remus praises and rubs his husband’s arm, waiting for the light to change.

The snow was coming down so much it was hard to see so Remus had to drive slowly but he tried to get back home as fast as he could.

Sirius didn’t push for a few minutes and waited for a contraction to come. He had lifted the bottom of his shirt and tried to look down, just barely seeing a bit of his son’s head. He had hair and it looked curly but was wet and bloody.

He brought a hand up and lazily rested it on his belly as he took a few moments to catch his breath.

“You okay over there baby?” Remus asks.

“Yeah. Just waiting because I don’t want to rush him out.” Sirius says.

Another few minutes later, a contraction came and Sirius knew not to push because he needed to pass his shoulders so he panted feeling the discomfort of his turning to face upwards.

“Okay.” He breathes and brings his hands down again to feel his shoulder. “Okay baby boy, you’re almost here. One more.” He says to himself while nodding, giving himself the courage to birth him.

He was so slimy and covered in gunk but he was coming and Sirius just needed him here for the pain to stop.

As another strong contraction hit, he gave one final push and screamed as loud as ever for him to burst into his hands, soaking his legs and the seat even more.

“Oh my-” Sirius carried his son up to his chest and he let out his first cry, taking his first breath. “Oh my god, I just had a baby.” He pants in between several deep breaths. Remus looked at his husband and his son. He was smiling and had tears running down his face. “Babe, call the midwife, please? Let her know.”

“Sure thing, love.” He nods and takes his phone out.

Sirius cradles their son close to him and just stares at him, so relieved it’s all over and that he’s finally here.

“You just had to make your grand entrance so grand huh baby boy?” He asks him and his cries turn into soft whimpers. “You came so fast, honey. My goodness.”

When they finally arrive home their midwife, James, and Lily with a sleepy Dilan in Lily’s arms were waiting for them with a gurney. Slowly, they got Siriu out of the car and helped him to get inside, with the baby still attached to him. They brought him to his room while Remus stayed back and parked the car and brought everything inside, and took Dilan from Lily, thanking her for taking care of him.

The midwife went with him and checked his vitals as well as the baby's.

“Is he okay?” He asks, looking down as they were checking over his son in between his legs. He wanted to hold off on the cord-cutting because he wanted Remus to cut it.

“He’s perfectly healthy.” She says “He’s alert and is cooperating so that’s good.” She adds as she proceeds to get the baby’s footprints.

Sirius soon started cramping again and the nurse helped him deliver the placenta. Not long after his husband found them and rushed over to his side.

“I’m glad you made it, I thought you got lost.”

“Never,” Remus says and kisses Sirius before getting the chance to cut the baby’s cord.

Remus stayed by his side while the baby was weighed, measured, and checked over by the nurse to make sure he was okay before being returned to them. Once everything was taken care of and settled, Remus and Sirius were left with their boy.

They were both so in love with him and amazed at how much hair he had. There were a few curls but overall it looks like he’ll have her momma’s thick locks.

He’s so cute and it was incredible that they made him so perfect.

Sirius cradled his head in his hand as he held him to his chest. The nurses swaddled him in a soft blanket so he was cozy with his momma.

Sirius smiles feeling Remus lay his head on his shoulder and turn his neck, kissing his fluff of curls.

“Sorry I had to put you through all that. I didn’t expect him to come so soon.”

Remus laughs and brushes his finger against their son’s cheek, “No worries babe. Besides, it was amazing watching you do what you did. You brought our son into the world in the most bizarre way but still, he’s here because of you.”

“We did it together, Remus,” Sirius tells him and Remus nuzzles his nose against his arm. “Together.” He whispers back and kisses Sirius’ arm, then leans his neck up to kiss his lips. They go back to staring at their son. Dilan was looking at his baby brother and poked his face. “Babe!” He said excitedly to finally see his baby brother
“Yeah pumpkin he is your baby brother” He smiles looking at his son

Sirius smiles and presses a kiss onto Dilan’s head, and another on his baby boy’s inhaling his sweet scent.

Remus goes in for another kiss and then continues to sit with his husband and his two sons as the four of them spend time as a family of four, the baby who was looking at his moma with his big gray eyes, started crying, Sirius lifted his shirt carefully and fed him. Remus kisses his son’s forehead. Dilan looks at his baby brother and gives him a small kiss. He mewls at his brother’s kiss as he keeps eating. “Dilan what do you want to name your baby brother?”
“Yeah, pumpkin, what would you like to name him?”Said Remus, smiling and ruffing his son’s hair a little. Dilan looked at his parents and at his baby brother who was looking at him.
“Mmmm Joh!”Sirius looked at Remus and laughed.” you want to name your baby brother after your daddy’s middle name?”Remus looked at Dilan. “You want your baby brother to have my middle name bud?”Dilan looked at his dad and smiled” Yes! Daddy’s name !”

Sirius smiled and looked at his son” Welcome to the family John Rexel Lupin”
“Rex?”Asked Remus with a confused look.”Well your son here wrote down some baby name suggestions and the cutest and the most original was Rex,so yes that’s why”He said as his son looked at him proudly.
