Chapter 1
Remus Lupin was perfectly content to work in the little Starbucks down the corner from his flat for the rest of his life.
Two of his three best friends worked there, he got free coffee, and he got a ton of downtime. He had a decent salary, and good hours.
He had three lovely friends: Mary, Marlene, and Lily, who had been with him since Uni, with the exception of Lily. Him and Lily had been close ever since fifth grade, when she had (without shame) called her old best friend, Severus, an asshole (apparently Severus had insulted her hair), and had walked up to Remus, held out her hand, and introduced herself. When they decided that they must go to college together, he had gone for a degree in literature, and Lily had wanted to become a teacher Their degrees didn’t really go together, but the school that Remus had decided to go to had a joined campus with other schools that taught different things, so it all worked out. Lily had roomed with Marlene and Mary, and they all became close within two weeks of college.
So, in Remus’s opinion, he had the perfect life. Working at a coffee shop that was a three minute walk from his flat, a ten minute walk to Lily’s school, and a five minute drive to Mary and Marlene’s shared apartment.
He was content to stay single forever, as long as his life stayed the same.
He’s working his usual afternoon shift on a Thursday when he hears the door clang open three minutes before closing time.
“For fucks sake-” He mutters under his breath, but he turns, plastering his “customer service” smile on.
The man is standing in front of the counter, eyes fixed on the menu.
“Venti Caramel frappuccino with a-” He says, before training his eyes on Remus and gaping.
Not a-bloody-nother one.
Ever since Remus had begun to work at Starbucks, he had people gawking at him left and right. He knew that he was more on the handsome side of men, but it pissed him off that he couldn’t have one normal day where people didn’t try to woo him into their beds.
Remus looks the man over quickly. He’s maybe six inches shorter than Remus, has a leather jacket slung over his back, and holds himself like he’s god's gift.
He’s got long black hair that he tied back in a neat bun, pale skin, and grey eyes, which are staring at Remus as if he’s the best thing in the whole bloody world.
Remus hates him already.
“Venti Caramel frappuccino with a?” Remus questions, wanting to leave.
“A-” the man clears his throat. “A- a-” he pauses again, and continues to stare at Remus.
Remus glares back.
“Look, we’re closing in a minute, so if you don’t know, then leave.” Remus tells him.
“No! Um… Sorry I want a Venti Caramel frappuccino with a Lemon Loaf please.” The man stumbles over his words, looking shocked.
“Alright.” Remus says, moving to make the coffee and grab the bread.
Once he’s made the coffee, he moves back to the counter.
“9.33 Euros, please.” Remus informs.
The man holds out a black card, still staring at Remus.
Remus finishes the payment, hands back the card, and says “Pleasure doing business with you.” just as he does with every other customer.
“Do… do you know who I am?” The man says slowly.
“Should I?” Remus asks, arching an eyebrow. “All I know is that you’re the asshole who comes in two minutes before we close.”
The man blushes.
“Touche.” He mumbles. “Do you really not know?”
“Nope. And I don’t care.”
“Sirius Black? The Marauders? Does that ring a bell?”
“Nuh uh.” Remus says, getting thoroughly annoyed. “I was supposed to close five minutes ago.”
“Oh- okay then.” Sirius says, turning around and walking outside slowly.
“I’ll have to ask Mary.” Remus mutters, turning to clean off the espresso machine.
