The rooftop of a Gotham high-rise wasn’t the ideal spot for a heart-to-heart, but for Cassie, Stella, and Natalia, it was just another Tuesday night. The city stretched out below them, a sea of flickering lights and distant sirens, while above, the sky was dark enough to almost make Cassie feel at home. Almost.
"Why aren't you dating him?" Natalia asked, leaning against a ventilation unit with her bow slung casually over her shoulder.
Cassie, perched on the edge of the roof with her legs swinging over the side, raised a brow. "Who?"
Natalia gave her a flat look. "Damian."
Cassie choked on absolutely nothing, waving her hands like that alone could ward off the conversation. "What? No. Ew. Not happening."
Natalia smirked. "Why not? You two fight like an old married couple anyway."
"Because I'd destroy him," Cassie shot back, crossing her arms.
Natalia didn't even hesitate. "He'd be into that."
"Gross!" Stella snapped, visibly recoiling from where she was crouched nearby, checking over her throwing knives. "That's my brother we're talking about!"
Natalia just shrugged, clearly unbothered. "I mean, tell me I'm wrong."
Stella glared. "I hate that I can't."
Cassie groaned, dramatically flopping back onto the roof. "Ugh, can we not discuss my hypothetical love life with Damian freaking Wayne right now?"
Natalia chuckled, nudging Cassie’s boot with the tip of her bow. "Fine. But, y'know, just saying... you would destroy him."
Cassie covered her face with both hands. "This is why I like space. No embarrassing conversations about my nonexistent dating life in space."
Stella snorted. "Yeah, just the occasional intergalactic war. Super chill."
Cassie peeked through her fingers. "Exactly. Way less stressful."
Natalia grinned, stretching lazily before stepping toward the edge of the building. "Alright, break time’s over. You two done being emotionally stunted, or do I need to let you keep avoiding your feelings?"
Cassie sat up, pointing at Natalia. "I don’t avoid my feelings. I just... file them away for later examination."
"Uh-huh. And Stella?"
"I actively suppress mine," Stella said dryly, slipping her knives back into her belt.
Natalia sighed. "You guys are so Gotham."
Cassie and Stella exchanged a look. "Thank you?"
Natalia rolled her eyes. "Come on. Patrol's not gonna finish itself."
Cassie stood up, stretching. "Fine, but if Damian starts getting weird ideas about us, I’m blaming you for putting it in the universe."
"Deal," Natalia said, smirking.
Stella sighed, shaking her head as she grappled off the roof. "I hate all of you."
Cassie and Natalia followed right after her, laughter echoing through the Gotham night.
