Doesn’t mean it won’t happen
Rain was pouring down Yasmina's face as she ran through the jungle with the antidote for the Scorpios Rex's venomous quills. She could feel her muscles begging her to stop after running for miles, but she couldn't. She needed to save Sammy or die trying.
Thinking about the Texan was like pumping fuel into her legs; each step was a smile or hug, reminding her of what she had to lose if she didn't reach her quickly. She was so trapped in her mind that the top athlete did not realise the growl coming from the horrid hybrid dinosaur just a few trees behind her, watching its prey.
When she got to the river, the water seemed stronger than before, probably because of all the rain. One wrong step would mean that she would be taken by the current or worse, lose the antidote. "For Sammy... for Sammy, " Yaz repeated like a mantra. Taking three big breaths, she launched herself and jumped over the river. "Shit!" Pain - all she could feel in her legs was pain; she had probably sprained her ankle again or worse, and that was not going to be good for her track career back at home, and Sammy was going to…
“No, fuck this I don't care if I never run again but I can´t lose her” covered in mud she cried as she stood up and started running once more. The pain in her leg was almost unbearable, but she knew she was nearing camp; this nightmare was almost over.
Of course, she had to jinx it.
Just when she could see the rubble that they had managed to turn into a home, a huge silent shadow jumped from one of the nearby trees. Glowing red eyes were fixed on her. It was almost as big as the T-Rex but with a huge agility, and most of its body was covered in pointy spikes that moved with every little twitch the beast made. As time passed it stayed in the same spot as if taunting her to move first “Do it already, because if she is dead I am coming right back and don’t doubt for a second that I won't kill you” Yaz screamed at the top of her lung she was tired, wet, fatigued, in pain and worst Sammy could already be dead.
The Scorpios scoffed as if understanding and swung for the killing bite, but Yaz was quicker; she ran towards the only place the jaws couldn't reach, under the Scorp´s stomach. The dinosaur realised this and moved. She was smarter; each time it tried to grave, Yasmina moved under it. They were at this ‘game’ for some time, and she could tell by the increasing aggression of the movements that the Scorpios were not happy about being outsmarted. One of the dinosaur's movements was so fast and aggressive that before she even realised she was back on the muddy floor with a new pain coming from her arm, probably another sprain.
Everything happens in a blur. When she was about to be eaten, a huge explosion came from some part of the forest, startling the Rex, making it run towards it, and before she knew it she was back on her feet running the remaining distance.
“Kenji, Brooklyn, I got it, I got the antidote” She collapsed beside Sammy, making sure she wasn’t too late. She checked her pulse; a very weak heartbeat, nevertheless, it was there. Brooklyn took the antidote from her hands and prepared the dose.
Finally relaxing, Yaz started to feel the extent of how bad her body was beaten and bruised, and her head was spinning around, making her wobble even though she was sitting.
“Yaz, God, you look horrible” Kenji moved from Sammy to Yaz, supporting her body
“Wow, always the charmer, Kenj,” she joked back, trying to lighten up the mood “Let's see how Sammy is doing”
As she went to stand, her legs gave out, completely falling just in time for Kenji to grab her head “I don’t think you are going anywhere soon, track star”
He grabbed Yasmina in his arms. She was way thinner than when they first arrived. I guess you can blame an island full of dinosaurs with almost no food and running most of the time for that. He carried her to where the other two girls were. Sammy already had color back in her cheeks and was reacting well to the antidote.
“ Hey, Superstar Doctor, please tell me there is another dose on that kit”
“WHAT? Yes, there is, but why would we need another dose?” Brooklyn started freaking out
“Yaz here has 4 quills in her arm. don´t ask me how; I have no idea how she even got back to us so quickly, and by the looks of it, she even faced the scorpios rex face to face”
“Awww, and it was all for Sammy!” The pink girl squeaked, preparing the other dose “Now if that is not true love, I don’t know what is”
“Do you think they will ever admit it? That they are both so hopelessly in love that they risk their lives for the other?”
“I think they may need a little more time, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. I mean, look at them”
Meanwhile, Brooklyn and Kenji talked and injected Yaz with the antidote. Sammy unconsciously moved across the mattress they were laid on and wrapped her hand behind Yaz, who in return gave a long content sigh and snuggled on her arms.
