In another world they'd have entirely different lives, but in this one things occurred as follows:Peter Pettigrew's betrayal was prevented but it was not enough to save everyone.James, Lily, Alice, and Frank were killed by Death Eaters due to a yet undetermined string of deceptions, but Harry and Neville both survived.The two boys were entrusted to Minerva McGonagall & sent to live under the protection of Hogwarts as investigations occured within the Order of the Phoenix.Harry was eventually entrusted to his godfather to be raised in the Black family home by Sirius & Remus.Neville's family asked that McGonagall take him, not wanting to put a target on their backs. Wards were placed around her home & they spent the summer holidays there.The hat made more interesting decisions, leading to a path of reconciliation & new friendships.OrNeville & Harry could both be the chosen one, & their parents are dead, but they're still being raised right. Canon sorting was thrown out the window, & I've been heavily influenced by TikTok
