OC in an insane world (Katekyou Hitman Reborn)
"what happens to a society that discourages critical thinking of any kind?"
She imagines if someone took this thought experiment and decided to attempt it on a real life town, Namimori would be as close to the result you'd get.
You're seen naked with another woman through a rube goldberg machine esque string of circumstances? You're divorced within ten minutes. You tearfully explain the long sequence of events that lead to the misunderstanding and beg to be taken back. She does. You get married. An entire marriage hall is put together in short order.
Not even an hour has passed, and this exact scenario happened to her neighbours this morning. She was forced to be the ring bearer - nevermind the fact that it was the first time she spoke to the couple since she had moved in a week ago. The event was over with in ten minutes - just in time for the local families to take their children to school and for their parents to start heading to work. Spontaneous weddings were only a valid reason to be late on Wednesdays - any other day of the week it's expected you be punctual regardless of if your cousins sister's boyfriend's boss's nephew's coworker just got divorced and remarried.
Wednesdays are universal half-days, so obviously no one cares if you even show up during it.
She knows this all because there's leaflets cheerfully explaining all of this that they hand out on the bus into town.
She feels like she's on the plot of the Norman Show, and she has a faint fantasy that any moment now she'll look past the designated sets and find herself back in a reality where things made sense. Obviously this would be horrifying and she'd have many bouts of anxiety about it and she'd have a life-long paranoia she hasn't quite actually escaped and the producers are in for the long haul and she'll never know peace again - but honestly, she could live with that. Probably.
It hasn't happened yet, but she's holding out hope. The alternative is that Namimori was a real town, and she was going to eventually adapt to become like...That too.
It's the subject of her nightmares. She isn't exaggerating either, she has many nightmares where she's the one doing insane stunts and no one bats an eye except for the occasional 'odd one out' in a crowd.
Horrific, she's aware.
