There weren't a lot of people who Sirius Black found worthy of his attention, let alone his affections. He is very well aware of the fact that this makes him sound like an absolute and utter prick, but he has his reasons to guard his heart. Defence over offence, that's what Orion always said.
So, when he says he truly cares about Lily Evans- he isn't saying it lightly. He might have only known the girl for less than 4 months, but she has grown to be someone very special. A sister, a second mother and sometimes a very annoying friend who likes to get all up in his business. Not that he minds. Anyway, back to the point- Mr. 'I do not love easily' loves Lily Evans and someone has hurt her. So he is pissed. No- livid! He is livid.
James, Lily, Sirius, and Marlene are all first-years at Hogwarts University. They became friends during the orientation and have been attached to each other by their hips. They created a safe space for each other- something Sirius has never had. Meeting James (his platonic soulmate), Lily (his baby sister), and Marlene (the love of his life if he was straight) was the best thing that has happened to Sirius.
Ever since their first day, Lily has talked about her boyfriend. Her boyfriend goes to Durmstrang Institute. Sirius never got a very positive feeling about this mystery boyfriend, partially because no one but James Potter is good enough for Lily in his eyes and partially because Mary has not-so-subtly told Lily many times to stay away from her because of the "incident with that boyfriend of yours".
Sirius knew Mary, Lily and the boyfriend went to school together with some Roman dude and that Mary and Roman hated the boyfriend. Mary never went into any details, but it was clear that the said boyfriend was not all sunshine and daisies as Lily might make him out to be. Mary has used many terms like 'slimy', 'greasy', 'uggo', etc but Lily defended her boyfriend and asked everyone to ignore Mary.
And that's what Sirius did. He ignored any comments made towards the said boyfriend and even defended Lily once. But tonight he wants to go down to Mary and apologize because what kind of slimy, greasy git stands up Lily Evans?
The end-of-the-semester party was something the group of friends have looked forward to since the start of the semester. Their big hurray before they all do whatever they do in summer. Lily has been excited to invite her boyfriend and introduce him to her friends but the fucker didn't show up.
Marlene was sitting next to Lily, running a comforting hand on her back, James and Sirius were sitting on the sofa opposite them and trying not to blurt something stupid.
"What's his full name?" Asked James.
"None of your business, Potter" Lily hissed. "He is not coming. That's it. We can't do anything."
Lily stood up and started walking toward her bedroom. Sirius, James and Marlene shared a panicked look and Marlene silently followed Lily after nodding at the two boys.
"Sev, what kind of name is that?" James mumbled.
"This isn't about you, James." Sirius sighed.
"Never said it was," James replied sharply, "do you really think that little of me? I want Lily to be fucking happy. I don't always think with my dick, you know."
"I know, Prongs. I-"
Sirius was interrupted by someone very panicky knowing on the door. Sirius looked at James who shrugged and walked into the kitchen. He came back with a knife in his hand. Lily, who came out when James was in the kitchen, gave James an odd look.
"Why are you carrying a knife, James?"
"I am not opening that door unarmed." That is all he said as he opened the door.
And Sirius forgot everything else. All he could see was this tall man with golden hair, which he swore was literally shining like a halo, and a perfect face decorated with his beautifully placed scars and the body of an Adonis. As a child, Sirius was a firm believer in Demi-Gods and all, thanks to Percy Jackson, he remembers promising his brother that he will find one child of the Gods and invite him to play Mario kart. Why Mario kart? Who the fuck knows. But all Sirius want is to call Regulus and show that fucker that he found himself a demi-god. But he can't because Sirius just realized that he has been staring at the stranger for far too long. And oh saints- his eyes!
The stranger walked toward lily and hugged her. He picked her up and spun her around and Sirius felt his heart crumbling. This was the boyfriend? The slimy, greasy uggo? This man was perfection- no. Sirius get these thoughts about your sister's boyfriend out of your mind.
Lily had tears in her eyes, she laughed brightly and he kissed her forehead. She nodded and ran into her room. After looking at the man, Sirius knew why Lily would choose him over Roman and Mary. Fuck, he would take fucking Zeus himself if it meant he could be the centre of this man's universe.
The man looked around and gave them a shy smile. Sirius looked at James who was throwing daggers at the stranger- no not stranger- Sev. Sev the boyfriend.
"So," the man started- and Oh saints!! His voice. "Um.. hello?"
He barely said three words to the group but Sirius was sure he could hear the demi-god talk forever. Sirius remembers that he has a voice too, so he decided to say something. Something cool and smart.
But of course, his voice can't be trusted because "Have you read Percy Jackson?" is what Sirius blurted out. The golden boy gave him a funny look and nodded. Maybe it was Sirius' wild imagination but the straight demi-god who was dating his sister blushed. Can demi-gods be straight?
"Um, yes. Yeah- one of my favourites." The angel with the golden halo of hair replied.
"Oh, the chemistry major likes to read," James said.
The divine stranger laughed awkwardly and rubbed the back of his neck, "Um no. I am studying veterinary sciences."
"Oh, Lily said you were taking Chemistry," Sirius said.
The stranger looked at him with a confused look, then his eyes widen and he furiously shook his head. All Sirius could see were his golden curls bouncing lightly. "Oh god no! That- That is Sev. My name is Remus. Not Severus. Did- do I look like Severus? Fuck- I-"
Sirius let the beautiful, possibly single, godling ramble. He was not Sev the boyfriend, he was Remus. Remus, the sun of his life, is not dating his sister. He heard Remus take a sharp and deep breath, "Let's start over, yeah? Okay. I am Remus Lupin, I went to school with Mary, Lily and Snape. Hate the greasy slimy wanker, all offence Lily." He said looking pointedly at Lily. "I came here after I saw said wanker roaming outside with his posh friends rather than taking his train over here. So yeah, I took the first train to the highlands and came here. So Lily wasn't dateless."
Remus was Roman. Roman the shy bookworm who Lily said exclusively dresses in sweaters and jumpers. Sirius felt like an absolute idiot- how dare he not remember Remus' name.
"That was very kind of you," Sirius said, looking directly at Remus who looked taken back. Sirius didn't see James give him an amused smile or Marlene cheer behind Remus or Lily roll her eyes at him. All he saw was Remus' golden eyes and started thinking how beautifully contradicting their beauties were. Where Sirius was all silver and sharp and cold, Remus was warm and golden and angelic.
After what felt like a lifetime, Remus broke eye contact, cleared his throat and turned toward Lily. "Shall we?" He offered his hand and Lily smiled fondly at the possibly single and definitely straight boy.
Who comes to a different city, and rides a train for hours, just for a friend? He was clearly in love with her. For the second time that day, Sirius felt his heartbreak and crumble.
He saw the happy couple leave and looked at James. "It's not fair."
"What's not fair?"
"That someone who looks like that is only available for one gender."
James had an amused look on his face, "What are you talking about, Pads?"
"It's not fair that Remus is straight." He blurted out and of course. Of fucking course. Remus "demigod" Lupin decided to walk in at that very moment.
He looked very entertained by the state of Sirius and had a smirk on his face. "I was looking for Lily's phone, she said she gave it to Marlene," Remus said, looking directly at Sirius. Sirius heard Marlene chuckle and give Remus the phone. Remus briefly broke the eye contact as he thanked the blonde and then looked right back at Sirius and said, "Bi."
"Bye?" Sirius said waving his hand. Remus chuckled lightly and shook his head, "Not straight- bi. So no, not entirely unfair."
"Me gay." And with that, Sirius Black started making a list of people he would be inviting to his funeral after he jumps into the Thames. Remus laughed loudly "Good to know, Mr. Gay." And with that, Remus went back outside, presumably back to Lily.
"Bye, Bi," Sirius said to the now empty space where Remus once stood. He heard James and Marlene break into laughter, but he didn't care. The demi-god was bi and said it was good to know that Sirius was gay.
