Regulus
Hermione and Lily were sitting off to the side of an argument between their husbands. Apparently, it was a huge deal who got to host the Guy Fawkes bonfire and who got to throw a Halloween party.
"How long do you think this will last?"
"Knowing them, until we break them apart."
"And how long before we do that?"
"When we figure out which we each want to host I suppose."
"Well, I'm not sure either of our husbands should be trusted with the bonfire."
"Yeah, that is a good point."
"Which do you think is more likely to hold a bonfire for the Halloween party if we don't let him play with fire?"
Lily laughed "I would say that would be my husband, we'll take Guy Fawkes and you can take Halloween."
"Like the four of us won't be doing the entire thing together anyway."
"Exactly! Why have they never realized this?"
"Probably the same reason they always fall for it?"
Both girls laughed before getting into character to gently guide the boys into the right choice.
"Sirius, love, are you almost done?"
"Yeah, I'm almost done convincing him."
"James, are you really sure you should be in charge of the fire?"
"LILY! How could you possibly ask that?"
"I'm just worried. I mean, you should probably-"
"Absolutely not, we are hosting the bonfire and I will show you..."
Hermione leaned into Sirius "I think we might have to give up the bonfire love."
He whispered back "Yeah, I think you're right."
"Hey, James. I think we'll take Halloween, Midnight has a wicked punch recipe she wants to try."
James puffed up a bit and smiled at Lily, she let out a frustrated sigh and stormed off, Hermione quickly kissing Sirius on the cheek and following after Lily.
"Great job out there."
Lily laughed, "Okay, let's get to planning these parties."
Regulus knocked on the door a couple hours later, the girls lost in their plans for the end of the summer.
"Hey, we were supposed to head to dinner. I need to spend time with my favourite Sisters in law."
"Oh please, you only have two."
"Yes, and I love you both the same."
They laughed and started to pack up, calling for Sirius and James, remembering exactly how Reg ended up with two brothers instead of just one.
Sirius and Hermione were playing exploding snap at the flat they had moved into with his inheritance from his uncle. Kreacher appeared and Hermione had to convince Sirius to listen.
"Speak now or I give mother another head to mount on the wall."
"Master Regulus. He is in danger. I tries to warn him of the most unpleasant potion but he would not listen. Says he needs to do this."
"What? Where is my brother?"
"I can't tell the blood traitor. I can only takes him to Master Regulus."
Hermione had rolled her eyes at the new name Sirius had earned when he was blasted off the Black family tree. After a glare, Sirius offered his hand to the elf he held no warmth for. When they landed, Hermione looked at a beautiful crystal basin and Regulus sitting next to it screaming about something she couldn't understand. They were in the middle of a disgusting dark cave that smelled like hell.
"Reggie, Reggie... wake up. WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM YOU WORTHLESS-"
Hermione silenced him, anger wasn't going to help. Kreacher barely tolerated Sirius as it was.
"Kreacher, you need to tell us how to help."
"Master Regulus made me promise to feed him all the potion. The horrible potion. Most horrible."
"Okay, have you done that?"
"No, Kreacher couldn't. He comes to blood traitor and the mudblood. Master Regulus needs you. He's only banning me from getting Master Orion and Mistress Walburga. He did not ban me from the blood traitor and the mudblood. I must finish now."
"Will it kill him?"
"No, I would never kill Masters. Kreacher is a good elf. Serves the most ancient and noble house of Black, never harm a Master."
"Okay, then let's get through this and then save him."
Sirius was trying to stop her and glaring, she just wrapped her arms around him and whispered that they would solve it. She wasn't sure how long she had been rocking with a crying Sirius when Kreacher tugged on her leg and held out a locket.
"I needs the missus mudblood to put this in there. I can not. It must be one with your magic."
She gently laid the locket in the basin watching it fill back up and hearing an inhuman sound come from all around them. There were inferi everywhere, slowly crawling up the shore of the island. Kreacher tugged on her pant leg again.
"I musts take you now. We must go now."
They landed back in the flat and Kreacher began to tend to Regulus immediately, Sirius pacing and Hermione fetching everything they needed. After that, the Potters took him in, just like they had taken in Sirius when he was disowned- though Regulus made the choice on his own. Now Once Orion and Walburga passed, Sirius would become head of the Black household- a revelation that made both brothers laugh.
"So little brother, where are we headed?"
James had his arm around Regulus, smiling down at the boy who they had welcomed to the family barely a year before.
"Well, I wanted to head to Diagon and pick up a ring with their advice."
Both girls had him in a hug before he could finish the end of his sentence. He had fallen for Gideon throughout the wedding planning and dating him. The girls had been waiting for one of them to eventually propose, but no one knew which one would break first. Sirius was right behind the girls, hugging his brother and saying how proud he was.
It had taken almost the full year he was around them to get used to the hugging and general affection the Gryffindors seemed to constantly give. At first, he had declared that it was disgusting to deal with everything by touching each other, trying to stay poised and perfect in everything he did. Gideon, therefore, insisted it was his duty to ruffle the younger Black as often as possible.
The many touches had caused both boys to dive into a relationship head first and despite his best effort, Reg ended up participating in many many public displays.
His Mother was mortified the first time one of their kisses ended up in the Prophet.
The howler was quite amusing though.
At least until Hermione set it on fire when it started to hurt him.
They all headed to the bar that night and pretended they weren't a broken bunch of misfits.
But tonight, they were headed to the bar to celebrate the end of the brokenness. They were still misfits, but over the year they had healed each other. Hermione, Lily, and Remus had put their heads together and found a way to block all incoming letters (usually howlers) from Walburga. Orion's letters tended to be nicer so they let his through, he missed his sons- even if they did end up with unfortunate Gryffindors.
