She could feel the rapid wind flying pass her midnight strands, reminding her how high up she currently was. Looking down, Xing can see the crowd of dots surrounding the pitch, buzzing with excitement at the start of the season.
As Lee introduced the two playing teams, Xing slowly lower her broom until she was in the crowd's line of sight, just in time for her introduction.
"And as usual, our one and only heaver have entered the pitch, Forest!"
Hearing cheers from the crowd, Xing gently smiled. Unbeknownst to her, the cheers grew louder with just her smile.
However, her thoughts were filled with contradictions. In just two months, there have been too much events happening at Hogwarts.
Just a few weeks ago, there was already an invasion of trolls. Why would a magical creature who lives in the Forbidden Forest invade Hogwarts, at this particular time, specifically?
Despite all the murkiness, Xing knew she did not like where all of this is going.
Looking down at the crowd, she focus her attention to the teacher's area, noticing how Professor Snape have just settled down, now with a new mysterious limp on his leg.
"Now I want a nice and fair game, all of you." Madam Hooch's voice brought Xing out of her contemplation, now focused on the game at sight.
I'll have to go to Snape himself.
"Mount your brooms, please."
As Xing looks down, she can see the banner titled "POTTER FOR PRESIDENT", changing colors ever so often. While it was strange, it was eye catching.
The fifteen brooms seem to simultaneously float up at the same time. With that cue, the entire stadium became quiet, as tension began to rise up.
As all sixteen of them are all airborne, most eagerly waiting for the whistle.
Xing's hands tighten around the broom, back slightly hunched over for better balance, eyes still focused on Madam Hooch's every movement.
The sound of Madam Hooch's silver whistle cut through the tension of the game.
With that, the first game of the season have started.
"And the quaffle is taken immediately by Angelina Johnson, what an amazing chaser of Gryffindor! Quite attractive too..."
"Jordan!"
Xing dropped down to hover above the chasers, to better register the game. In her peripheral vision, she closely follow both seeker's movement.
The quaffle was now the Slytherin's, as Flint fly past Alicia Spinnet, aiming towards the goal but was caught by Wood's swift movements. Before she can react, a blunger flew past her head aiming for Gryffindor's chaser, Katie Bell. Looking at the speed and direction its flying in, she definitely would not be able to dodge it.
Going down for a dive, she flew through the crowd of chasers, trying to get in between Katie and the bludger. Before getting there, I took out my wand, aiming to deflect the bludger.
As she called out an incantation, the bludger abruptly flew away back to one of the beaters. "CAREFUL!"
"Whoopsies!"
Before doing anything else, Xing follow the bludger's movement, making sure it does not hit someone in the head before focusing her attention on the two seekers.
***
For the first part of the game, both seekers remain quite still, trying to find the snitch. The only way for the game to end is for them to find the snitch, but looking at the current pace, it would not be anytime soon.
I quickly hushed down to avoid a bludger coming my way, just enough that it barely graze my cheeks. Once dodged, I sent a glared to one of the Weasley twins as a warning.
"My bad!"
I internally swear to drag them for extra practice later on as a payback.
After a while, Harry was moving with great speed, as if trying to chase down the snitch. No longer focused on the chasers, I flew my way behind the two seekers who are trying to find the snitch. At the edge of my eyes, I saw a slight hue of golden.
Before I can react, the seekers suddenly turn around, zooming towards my way. Without my additionally agility training, I would have already be down by how fast they were moving.
Managing to dodge their flights, I fall back to settle on a rhythm with the two seekers.
"...And Slytherin scores coming from Dion Auclair."
This brought a smile to Xing's face.
Getting there, Dion.
Before she can further congratulate him, a bludger was coming Harry's way. Like before, Xing sped up, now flying above Harry to whack away the bludger, knowing that he cannot dodge it.
Harry and Slytherin's Seeker, Terence Higgs were now in a race against each other, and possibly even time as the flew around the pitch, trying to catch the snitch, smoothly followed by Xing.
As she saw a bludger coming Adrian Pucey's way, Xing separated from the duo before speeding over to defend his face. "Yah!"
"A powerful yell was heard from Forest, great way to show the quidditch spirit."
As Xing was coming down from the adrenaline, she heard a yell coming from the Gryffindors, "Harry!"
Looking up to where Harry was, she saw him hanging on to the broom for dear life. Directing her broom to fly to him, just close enough so he is within an arm distance. Before she can reach out for him, like what the Weasley twins were trying to do, it dodge her attempt and flew higher into the air.
Xing narrowed her eyes at the odd sight, before Xing took her wand from its place in her pocket, cutting off the magic flow inside the broom, sending it falling down on to the ground. This made Harry release a roar in terror as he was pushed down towards the ground. Before hitting anything, Xing was diving at the same speed at his side.
Bringing her hand out, she tuck it around his torso before yanking him off his broom, letting it completely fall to the ground.
Now sitting behind her, Xing glared at the broom. "What happened to your broom?"
Harry, now extremely confused and flustered from what just happened, could not properly describe what had happened. Bloody hell, he did not even know what happened to his broom!
"I don't know."
"Fire! Fire!"
Hearing a commotion, both of them looked up to see where the noise was directed to. Turns out that Professor Snape's coat was caught on fire, and they were trying to put it out.
Turning back to the broom, it was now levitating above the ground as if nothing have happened. Seeing that it was now fine, she motioned to Harry.
"Use it for now."
Harry nodded, transferring himself on to his now fine Nimbus-Two-Thousand.
Xing did a small flick, saving some of the magic from the wand to further investigation. Looking up, both Harry and Terence were continuing their race for the snitch.
Xing pushed herself off the ground, following their footsteps. The moment she came up to their altitude, Harry abruptly dive down, hands reaching out.
Xing sighed at the sight, before also dropping down. Seeing he has no plan to stop himself, Xing knew that he was going to end up splayed out on the floor.
Quickening her speed, she did a dramatic dive to match his pace before pulling his broom towards her, as they both slammed on to the ground.
Xing let out a huff as air was knocked out of her lungs from both the impact of the fall and the weight on her chest. Opening her eyes, she saw Harry, eyes wide open with his mouth slapped over his mouth.
Pulling him off her, she examine his body. "Are you alright, Harry?"
The whole pitch have fell silent, waiting to see if he have actually caught the snicker.
As if on cue, Harry coughed out a shiny golden sphere. Immediately, he rise up, holding the snitch in the air. "I got it! I got the snitch!"
The Gryffindors were the first to jump out of their shock, applauding into cheers, quickly followed by the Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws.
The rest of the Gryffindor members also flew down to congratulate him. Xing stood on the side, also flopped back on to the ground to take a breather.
She did not like how risky this game was. And with the appearance of Harry Potter, she had a feeling that many games to come will be just as bad as this.
Opening her eyes, the first thing she saw was a hand reaching out for her. Recognizing it as Dion's, she happily took it, patting dust off her robes.
Behind him were the rest of the Slytherin quidditch team, clearly not happy about their lost.
"You alright?"
Dion shrugged, "Not a bad game, we were quite close."
Xing smiled, "So you can be mature."
This made Dion rolls his eyes. In the far distance, they could hear Aella's greetings.
"Xing! Dion!"
As she greeted them, they chatted for a while before Xing's line of sight caught Harry's trio. Not expressing anything, Xing simply mouthed a phrase which they all then nodded.
As they leave the pitch for a quieter place, Xing slowly commented, "We have a lot of investigating to do."
The other two just hum in agreement.
There definitely is something not right.
