Chapter 1

Prompt: Bodyguard

Draco sighed softly as he listened aimlessly to the director.

It had to have been almost thirty minutes of the man drabbling on and on about how an investment from the Malfoy heir would be so beneficial to some organisation.

From the corner of his eye, a glimpse of chestnut curls and a striking dress with silver accents flashed by.

Draco muttered an apology and excused himself, holding his glass of scotch as he weaved through the crowd. She was close. So close.

Suddenly a large figure blocked his path. Draco looked up into the face of Jeremiah, Granger’s stocky bodyguard. Or Boulder as Draco like to call him.

The man was supremely annoying and always showed up at inconvenient times.

“Boulder,” he nodded, “care to move?”

Boulder crossed his arms and raised a brow. He was never one to be intimidated by the great Malfoy.

“Not at all. Miss Granger is busy. So please head back the way you came.”

Draco smirked when a small hand rested on Boulder’s large arm. Granger looked up at the man and nodded once, signalling for him to back down.

“It’ll be alright, Jeremiah. He’s just being ornery.”

Boulder grunted and gave Draco one last stern look before disappearing somewhere into the dark edges of the crowd.

“What do you want?”

Always short and to the point. He enjoyed that about her.

“He’s always so enjoyable. Such stimulating conversation,” he smirked.

Granger rolled her eyes, “you can be such an arse. But you already know that. Don’t make me repeat myself.”

Draco’s eyes roved over her, taking in the hugging bodice and flowing skirt. The silver accents swirled intricate designs that were hidden until the light hit.

He knew when buying it for her that she would look radiant.

And he wasn’t wrong.

“You look lovely,” he purred in a low voice, watching in amusement as her own eyes darkened.

“You cannot do that here,” she said softly.

He smirked but then frowned, “Hermione, how many times do I need to tell you that I want this to stop being a secret?”

“I…I’ve told you, Malfoy,” she huffed in a rush, “we can’t right now. Not with the threats still coming.”

Draco boldly took a step closer, his hand inching up and around her waist. He leaned closer, his breath hot on her ear.

“And I’ve told you, I don’t care. You have Boulder who is more than capable of foiling any idiotic plans those nematodes may have. Besides,” he skated his lips across her jaw, feeling joy when her breath hitched, “he can’t always be around. You need a bodyguard specifically for your bed. Wouldn’t you agree?”

He pulled back just barely to look deeply into her eyes.

They were wide, the different shades of brown barely visible with her pupils blown out. It felt like time stood still as he watched the wheels turn and she ran through all the pros and cons again.

Without another thought, she crashed her lips to his, her hands reaching to grip the sides of his face.

Draco couldn’t help the smile that graced his lips as he pushed back, enjoying the little mews that escaped her.

“Fine, you win,” she growled, “Now take me home before we do something scandalous.”

He merely hummed in satisfaction.

Dragons always won their treasures.
