Tsukishima was seething. There was a vein popping in his temple, his hands were shaking, and his teeth were gnashing together in anger. Maybe it had been the wrong time for Yamaguchi to tell the blonde that his boyfriend had ended up in the Infirmary because of something Hinata had told him to do. Oh well, it was too late now Yamaguchi supposed.
Both of them were now walking hurriedly to the Infirmary. Well, Tsukishima was walking briskly but he had long legs so Yamaguchi was the one nearly running to catch up with him.
Once they entered the dark room, Tsukishima’s eyes immediately honed in on the furthest bed on the right side. Kageyama was sleeping on the bed, one arm badly burned it was almost black and his other arm sporting a big red gash. Tsukishima took one look at his sleeping boyfriend before a nurse walked up to them.
‘I don’t want to know why Kageyama was out playing around with dragons, but I have to state the obvious: It is dangerous,’ the nurse said, a frown plastered on her face.
Tsukishima nodded as he bit his lip. Yamaguchi would bet anything that Tsukishima was merely holding back a scowl.
‘Yes, I agree with you, ma’am.’ Tsukishima said neutrally to the nurse as his eyes scanned his boyfriend again.
‘How bad is it?’ Yamaguchi asked.
The nurse sighed. ‘Well, his burn looks a lot worse than it actually is. I already applied the burn-healing paste, so it shouldn’t be too bad. It will be discolored for a few days, but his skin should be back to normal by next week. Provided,’ and she gave the two boys a stern look, ‘he doesn’t end up getting burned again.’
‘He definitely won’t.’ Tsukishima said. He pointed to the ugly-looking gash on Kageyama’s other arm, ‘What about this?’
‘Probably from a talon,’ said the nurse. ‘He lost a bit of blood – probably why he’s sleeping – but it’s not that bad given how sharp a dragon’s talons can be. So again, it looks a lot worse than it is. He was lucky it wasn’t anything bigger.’
‘Anyway,’ the nurse finished, ‘he should be able to go back to his dormitory as soon as he wakes up.’
With a final stern warning about dragons, the nurse left. Just as she disappeared behind the door, another figure came running in.
‘YAMAYAMA!!!’
‘Shhh!’ Yamaguchi quickly shushed the excitable orange-haired boy.
‘You,’ Tsukishima said menacingly, glaring daggers at Hinata. ‘I am going to KILL YOU!’
Hinata squeaked as he quickly hid behind Yamaguchi. ‘It’s not my fault!’ He protested.
‘This is totally, 100%, without question your fault you dumbass!’
‘I didn’t mean for Bakayama to actually go and try to take a photo of a real dragon’s egg! I didn’t think he would actually do it!’
Tsukishima scowled as he stepped closer and closer to Hinata. ‘Do you not know him??? Of course he was going to do it if you challenged him, you fool!’
‘I’M SORRY!!!’ Hinata shouted, quaking under Tsukishima’s wrath. ‘I spoke to the nurse earlier and she said his wounds weren’t that bad…’
Tsukishima’s nostrils flared and the vein in his temple nearly popped.
Yamaguchi stepped in before Tsukishima actually committed murder.
‘That’s not a good reason to do something though, Hinata,’ Yamaguchi said.
‘I know, I know. I won’t do it again. Promise!’
‘You better sleep with one eye open,’ Tsukishima said, his voice low in warning.
‘I didn’t mean it! I swear!’
‘Yeeesh Tsukki! Protective much?’ Yamaguchi said. ‘Don’t you think that’s going a bit overbo-’
‘Kei?’
All eyes turned to Kageyama who had finally woken up.
‘BAKAYAMA!!! YOU’RE ALIVE!!!’ Hinata shouted in relief.
Kageyama nodded before wincing. ‘Not too loud boke!’
Tsukishima rounded on Hinata. ‘Get out. Before I decide which poison or herb to put in your food or bed tonight.’
Hinata paled before quickly saying his goodbyes to Kageyama and dashing out of the room. Yamaguchi followed him, albeit with a lot less fear on his face.
Once both boys were gone, Tsukishima was at Kageyama’s side in an instant. ‘Are you okay? Does it hurt anywhere?’
‘My head hurts a bit. And my arms sting. But I think I’m okay.’
Tsukishima breathed out a sigh of relief. Seconds later, he was poking his boyfriend’s cheek, ‘Why on earth did you have to fall for Hinata’s bait! Who the hell goes hunting for a dragon on their own in the forbidden forest?’
Kageyama shrugged nonchalantly. ‘I knew it was a harmless dragon mom. I don’t think I would have gotten burnt or scratched if I hadn’t gotten distracted by the other baby dragons. It was just bad luck and timing.’
Tsukishima shook his head in exasperation. ‘You know what, King? I don’t even want to ask.’
The blonde sat down on Kageyama’s bed and gently reached out to push his boyfriend’s raven bangs aside. ‘Please be careful, okay?’
‘I always am, Kei.’
Tsukishima snorted. ‘Right. It’s just your stupidity I guess then.’
‘Hey!’ Kageyama pouted.
Tsukishima chuckled before placing a chaste kiss on his boyfriend’s lips.
‘Seriously, next time Hinata sends you out to do something stupid, I will put poison ivy in his bed.’
Kageyama rolled his eyes. ‘Relax, Kei. You’re worrying about the wrong things.’
‘Oh?’ Tsukishima raised an eyebrow.
‘Yes. Professor Binns just assigned us that 30-inch essay on…’
Tsukishima laughed. ‘You already forgot the subject matter, huh?’
‘Ugh, shut up!’ Kageyama said before giving a beseeching look to his boyfriend. ‘Please help me!’
‘Fine,’ Tsukishima said. ‘But only if you’ll allow me to just consider the possibility of putting something in Hinata’s bed. Maybe a water snake?’
Kageyama pondered this. His grade or his best friend’s sanity? Well, Hinata did get him in this situation after all…
‘Deal!’
