My Little Brother
Narcissa Malfoy stumbled on her feet at her husband’s words but she was quickly stabled by Draco who still quite hadn’t grasped what his Father had just told them. Narcissa could not believe it. They had found her little boy. He was home. She could not help but check out her husband as he held their little boy. He was suited so well for the role of father no matter how much he doubted himself. He stood in front of them looking so casual but she knew inside he was trying his absolute hardest to not squeeze the boy so tight and scare him, breaking whatever trust they had clearly formed whilst in Gringotts bank. She was pulled out of her staring by her other husband asking if she was okay.
“I’m fine Lucius, but I feel like we should go and sit down somewhere so you can explain to me just how you happened to come across our son who has been missing for five years with no leads on his whereabouts. Yes?” She did not leave room for a discussion, just turned and walked towards the nearest restaurant, dragging Draco along with her.
“Mother, is that really him?” Draco said in realisation.
“Nothing can get past the Goblins Dragon. If they say that he is your baby brother, then that is exactly who he is.”
“My baby brother,” Draco repeated. The words sounding so strange in his head. He could not really remember his brother. After all he was only six years old when Hadrian was kidnapped and he had no recollection of the night he lost his brother at all. He could remember however his fathers behaviour afterwards. He did not think anyone in their family would ever forget that. It was very traumatizing for a six year old to watch your father go through multiple breakdowns that were triggered by anything to do with his little boy.
“I want to sit next to my baby brother!” Draco demanded as the five of them reached the table and the adults couldn’t even tell him off for his manners, nor loud voice, as they were all so happy that he was finally able to say something like that.
“That’s okay Dragon, if you sist next to your father you can be next to him as I doubt your father will be letting him out of him arms even if he wasn’t asleep!” Lucius laughed, knowing that he was absolutely correct. Narcissa held off on their conversation until Draco was emersed into the food that had arrived only ten minutes after arriving. Draco also deserved to know how they found his brother but not until she knew it was safe to tell him.
“How?” She could only get one word out, not knowing where to start but also knowing that her husbands would understand exactly what she meant.
“It was a stroke of luck really,” Severus began, “Minerva informed me that Albus had sent Hagrid to pick up the Potter boy from his house in the muggle world and gave me a note to give to Hagrid to say that I was supposed to be taking the boy instead. Hagrid did not want to disobey the Headmasters orders and tried to stop me, refusing to hand over the Potter trust vault key so I simply asked the Goblins to make a new one.
As soon as we entered the Goblins office to verify his identity the goblin wards brought the glamours he had on him down. It was only when the goblins purged him did his final appearance occur. He had so many compulsion, potions and speels on him. Fucking Dumbledore aged our son five years. Does he realise what that does to a person’s magical core!”
Narcissa reached over and placed a calming hand on his arm, knowing that it would not do any good to be heard shouting that in public.
“I would rather think that was his plan Severus. He had been paying the muggles that he was living with, so I assume Dumbledore is his magical guardian. How that came about I don’t know, I am absolutely sure the Wizengamot holds a meeting to discuss the best person for the job and I don’t recall their being one. That also means if he is his magical guardian, then it was his duty to check on Hadrian over the years when he was living with those filthy muggles and considering his medical report, he absolutely didn’t check at all.
Which means that if he didn’t check and had no idea what was going on, he failed as a magical guardian and we could get him charged for that or if he did know what was going on it suggests that he needed the saviour of the wizarding world weak and vulnerable and easy to manipulate.” Lucius imputed.
“That, unfortunately, does make sense,” Narcissa sighed, “He lost a lot of followers when the Potter’s died because he was supposed to be keeping them safe. I mean does he honestly think that the public would believe that Black would sell them out? By having the youngest Potter under his wing he can make it seem like he is making up for his past mistakes. However it does beg the question, what happened to the real Harry Potter? And considering he still thinks Harry is with the muggles, I would wager a bet that he is expecting him to turn up to Hogwarts on September first?”
“Well, he isn’t going to.” Hadrian murmured, as he woke up in his Daddy’s lap. He didn’t make a move to try and get off though, he was comfortable and his father smelt of spices that made him feel safe.
“Well obviously Haddy,” Draco snorted, causing his parents to jump as they were not aware that he was listening in to their conversation. He had learnt when he was younger how to pretend that he wasn’t paying attention. Understandable though really, he was just as curious as to why his younger brother had been kidnapped to replace Harry Potter.
“Shut up,” Hadrian grumbled. “I just meant that I am obviously not going to be turning up because I am not him and I am not eleven. How tall am I by the way? But if Harry Potter does not turn up then the public is going to wonder where he is. The wizard you were on about before would lose more followers.”
“You’re about four feet tall,” Severus laughed in response to Hadrian’s height question. Hadrian growled lightly into his chest not liking how small he was causing Severus to laugh even more. “Maybe I should invite Minerva to the manor later, she might be able to help us figure something out.”
“Deputy Headmistress Minerva?” Lucius frowned. “Can we trust her?”
“100%” but it was not Severus who replied, it was Narcissa. “I think she knew, why else would she send Severus, knowing his past with the Potter parents?”
The family of five thought over that statement for the rest of the day. They ended their day soon after, pockets heavy with Draco’s school supplies and clothes for Hadrian along with toys and games, which Hadrian could not choose himself as he had one again fallen asleep in his Daddy’s arms, meaning they would come back again later for him to choose some things for himself.
