What We've BeenWaiting For Our Whole Lives
When the sound of little footsteps woke them up mear dawn, a little, scared, shaky knock came to their door. Remus transfigured their boxers into pyjama pants as he called out gently, "Come in, Harry."
The small boy padded over to their bed, looming spooked, "I had a bad dream of the bad man and the green light…" he hiccuped, crying a bit now.
Sirius leaned over the bed and scooped him up into his arms, "You're okay now, kiddo. You're here with me and your uncle Rem, we'll keep you safe and for tonight, you can sleep here, then I'll show you something in the morning, I have just the thing for bad dreams." he assured the small boy, noticing how Remus bundled him close too.
The werewolf thought to his husband, "We don't even have a child yet and already, you're very nurturing." He couldn’t stop himself from smiling softly at him.
Harry was asleep but now, cuddled up between them as Sirius replied, "Well love, I am the one who'll be carrying the kid." he cheekily replied with a grin. That earned him a gentle nip to his ear.
"Go to sleep, my handsome, incorrigible mate. We'll talk about our cubs tomorrow." Remus rumbled into his ear, half asleep.
The shorter man let out a soft yip, but snuggled close to them both, cuddled close.
In the morning, at about ten o'clock, the three of them were in the kitchen having breakfast. Sirius had then made scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. He had been a terrible cook as a teenager, had learnt the skill from the best cook he knew, Euphemia Potter, who taught him all her culinary secrets when he'd run away from Grimmauld Place at sixteen. She'd taught him so much, since James didn't want to learn how to cook, so sure of his future with Lily and knowing that she was amazing at it. He suggested to his husband while finishing his coffee, "Do you reckon Molly would mind keeping an eye on him? He'd get the chance to play with her kids and I think it'd be good for him."
Remus put down the Daily Prophet and finished his cup of tea, "That's a great idea, sweetheart. Why don't we Floo her now and ask?" he suggested, smiling warmly at him, noticing Harry was now colouring at the kitchen table.
He nodded, getting some Floo powder and saying the Burrow's full address, smiling a bit when he saw the short red haired woman, "Hiya, Molly. Sorry it's been ages… I'm a free man now that they caught Pettigrew, but I wondered if I might ask a favour?" he asked her.
She smiled when she saw him, "Sirius Black, it's been far too long, young man. Oh, of course!" she cheerfully replied.
Remus, who heard her, frowned at his last name, "Does nobody in the Order know? Molly, Sirius and I are married." he gently told her.
She blinked, but looked excited, "Oh, how marvellous! There always was something more between you two… Congratulations!" she replied cheerily, assuming it was faielt recent.
Remus chuckled lightly, "I often wonder to myself if Dumbledore's secretly homophobic. We've been married since after graduation. James was his best man, Pettigrew was mine, unfortunately." he calmly explained to her.
Molly blinked as she replied, shock in her tone, "Almost ten years you've been married and no one told us? Why?"
Sirius bitterly added, "Probably because it's suited Dumbledore better to have me locked up." But he added, smiling at her, "We have legal custody of little Harry and wondered if you might look after him for an hour or two while we go to St. Mungo's?"
Molly smiled warmly, "Of course I will, and good luck. I know the face of someone who's about to have a child." she smiled knowingly at them.
Sirius chuckled, but thanked her, "This means a lot to us, thank you, Molly." Remus added, "We won't be gone too long."
She waved them off, "Nonsense, let him stay for a bit, some company his own age will do the poor little dear some good."
Sirius had to bite his lip to stop himself laughing at her word choice, "Yes, it will. Alright we'll drop him over in a bit, thanks again." She waved them off again before closing the Floo network.
After a shower, getting changed getting Harry dressed, and making sure he had everything he needed before going to the Weasleys, having told him what was going on.
Before they left the Burrow, the werewolf asked him, "You're sure that you'll be okay with Mrs Weasley and her family while Sirius and I go to the hospital, Harry?" Remus asked the six year old boy, bending down to talk to him, despite what it did to his stiff back, he’d always been a bit creaky in places a day or so after the full moon, but even if the moon was nowhere near full, his back still ached from years of transformations.
Harry smiled at him, patting his arm, "Yes, Uncle Rem, I'll be okay." He got up, being helped by his husband who gazed softly at him before nodding to Molly, "Thanks, Molly."
The short red haired woman smiled warmly at the pair, "Don't be silly, Sirius. Young Harry is welcome here in The Burrow anytime. Besides, it will do my boys good to get to know him, for Hogwarts." She bent down to smile at the little green eyed boy, "Hello dear, my name is Molly and I'll be looking after you for a while. I have a good few sons about your age by now. Come on, let's go and get you something to eat, hm?" Harry took her offered hand, walking inside with her.
After Harry met the Weasley children, we got on quite well with a certain pair of twins a couple of years older than him, and Molly's youngest, Ron. They had some lemonade, sandwiches and cakes before going back to playing outside, the twins grinning as they taught Harry how to prank, taking him under their wing of sorts.
Oh, how the last two remaining Marauders would be in for quite a pleasant surprise when they returned from the hospital. Molly called them inside when it started to rain so they settled for a game of hide and seek around the Burrow.
Remus slipped his hand into his husband's, entwining their fingers as he softly asked, looking into his eyes tenderly, "Ready to go, sweetheart?"
Sirius brought their joined hands to his lips, placing a soft kiss to the back of his husband’s calloused left band, smiling at the simple gold wedding band that had been there a while now, "Yeah darling, let's go."
The werewolf Apparated then to St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies, walking up to the front desk. Sirius introduced them, "Hi, we're the Lupins. We have an appointment scheduled for fertility and childbirth?"
The witch at the desk smiled a bit, "Of course. If the two if you could just fill in these forms for me, someone will see you shortly."
Remus nodded, "Thank you-" he looked at her name tag, "Tallinn."
The nurse smiled at him, handing them two self-inking quills.
They walked over to some seats, filling them in before Sirius laughed softly, "I have no idea what my blood type is. …Should I lie?"
Remus rolled his eyes fondly at his husband, "No need, it’s AB positive, baby." he gently reminded him. He kissed his cheek softly, "What would I do without you, eh darling?"
The taller man smiled softly as he snorted, playfully replied, “Who knows, but I don’t think it would be good, sweetheart. But then again, i'd be a right mess without you, you've seen that.” he mumbled self-deprecatingly.
He pressed a kiss to his cheek, leaning in to whisper, "Hey, for better or for worse, darling and I wouldn’t have you any other way. Your strength is a damn beautiful thing, I just wish it didn't bring you so much pain." he softly added, stroking his cheek, while continuing to fill in the paperwork with his other hand they’d been given at the front desk.
Remus pecked his forehead, carding a hand through his hair gently, murmuring reverently, "You’re…You’re so sweet sometimes, you know that, sweetheart? Thank you.” he kissed his cheek admiringly, going all soft whenever he did when Sirius undoubtedly accepted and showed him love, despite his condition. Even if they had been together years, it still amazed him to this day and lijely always would. He cleared his throat after speaking so rawly, voice going to a gentle rumble, “Oh, the pain is softened when I’ll never face another full moon alone, my lovely mate.” he kissed his forehead gently, squeezing his hand, “Come on, my love, let’s get back to these papers.” he suggested.
Sirius smiled affectionately at him, a sappy look in his silver eyes as he spoke, “Nope, that’d be you, darling. You just keep going on, no matter what fucking injustice and hate is thrown at you. Whether it’s for your condition or being with me, I know you still face so much hate, and I hate that.” he fiercely spoke, indignant in his fury of the world for scorning his darling wolf for something he couldn’t control if he wanted to. He grabbed his hand and kissed the heel of one of those big, calloused, scarred hands he would gladly hold for the rest of his life, “Damn right you won’t, not while there’s breath in my lungs, darling.” he kissed his need and hummed, “Alright, you’re right, Remmie. Let’s do that.” he nodded, going back to the papers.
After filling out the forms, they were taken into a room after about thirty minutes of waiting to be seen to, they were asked an array of questions on the subject of why they wanted to have a child, financial matters and how they would be able to provide for a child, which they dutifully answered, the healer seemed molified that Remus was a teacher at Hogwarts and that Sirius would look for a job, but preferred to stay at home with the kids.
At one point, the healer got straight to the point and asked as a requirement of treatment, "Which of you will be carrying the baby?"
Even though they had discussed it briefly together, the Animagus was going to be stubborn about this, so, before his husband could object, Sirius smiled as he quietly replied, "That would be me." he stepped forward a bit.
Remus looked worriedly at him, squeezing his hand, hiding the worry in his calm voice as he asked, "Are you sure, sweetheart?"
He smiled softly, love in his silver eyes as he replied honestly, "Yeah love, I am. Don’t worry darling, I’ve got my reasons.” he winked at him, knowing the forms hadn’t mentioned anything about whether the parents were ‘creatures’ or not, so neither of them had mentioned it, knowing how prejudiced the Wizarding world could be to werewolves. It had gotten a lot better, streets ahead when it came to the LGBTQIA+ community, it still wasn’t perfect, but it was something, enough that they had been allowed to get married in the late seventies in Britain.
Remus nodded, knowing his reasoning now, but that didn’t stop the warm affection in his eyes or the loving smile he gave him as he replied, “Very well, you can carry the kid, stardust.”
The healer smiled warmly at them, handing them, thinking of their own significant other at home, as she passed them a prescription, telling them, “When you go back outside, give the prescription to the witch at the desk, she will give you potions that are needed.” she advised, adding, “The next time you engage in intercourse, drink the first potion on the list, before doing so. It will cause you to be fertile enough for Mr. Lupin to be able to give you a child. When you are pregnant, Mr. Lupin, you’ll need to take a vial of the second potion every day in the morning, it should coincide with the nutrient potions that you are on system for consuming daily, which I have taken the liberty of upping the dosage, to help with the child to receive the necessary nutrients the baby will need.”
The Animagus nodded, handing the prescription to his husband who was usually more organised than him, who was already putting it into his robes pocket, “Thank you, Healer Broderick. C’mon love, let’s go get the potions.” there was a glint of mischief in his silvery eyes, the werewolf managed to catch it in his sharp amber ones out of the corner of his eye. He nodded in thanks to the healer, “Thank you, Healer Broderick.”
She smiled softly at him, “I am glad to help assist you and people like you and your husband create a family.” she smiled, remembering her and her spouse’s first appointment for a child, since her spouse was nonbinary, rare in the Wizarding world, it hadn’t been easy, but they had a comfortable life together now and it’s what counted.
Remus smiled at her, nodding to his husband, “After you, my love.” he replied, thinking into their bond, “Is the mischievous look in your eye because you know I’m going to enjoy every moment of conceiving a cub all our own with you, my lovely, handsome mate?” he knew his rumbling smug tone would make his husband weak in the knees, like it always did.
The Animagus blushed as he replied mentally, “Am I being that obvious, darling? But to answer your question, yeah, I’m looking forward to it, but like I said yesterday, when don’t I look forward to sex with you, love?” he cheekily answered, asking the witch for his potions, who gave him an apothecary script, so the two of them started walking hand in hand to the apothecary, where they obtained the potions, that was in the adjourning side building of St. Mungo’s, where Remus got them a fertility potion, the higher dosage of the nutrient potions Sirius’ was already on for getting back to health after Azkaban, and some ant-nausea potions for his husband, as well as mild pain relievers especially for maternity pain, neither were on their prescription, but he wanted to make sure than every need his husband would have was cared for, he’d always been overprotective of him like that.
Sirius noticed, and kissed his cheek, affectionately smiling at him, “Thanks, love.” he softly spoke, taking his hand when they’d paid for the potions, both having funds that had gone straight to Sirius, despite him being disowned, he was the last Black, despite it being his pre-marriage name, so they were well set up, not that either rof them cared much about money, one of them having grown up rather wealthy and the other knowing poverty but scraping by all his life.
Just before they were about to Apparate to the Burrow, Remus whispered to him, “Molly won’t mind hanging onto little Harry for another hour or two, it’s only early in the day…would you like to try for that cub anytime soon, my sweet, lovely mate?” he asked affectionately.
Sirius grinned toothily at him, pressing a kiss to his jaw, “Sounds fantastic to me, you know that’s one thing I won’t say no to with you, darling. Should we just go home then?” he asked, watching as his husband nodded, noticing he was just about holding himself back.
When they got home, Sirius’ lips landed on his husband’s as soon as he felt the carpet of their hallway by the front door, kissing him deeply, which according to the pleased hum Remus let out, he was more than alright with, picking his husband up and pressing him against the wall, eventually pushing his tongue into his mouth, snogging for about ten minutes.
Remus came up for air, slowly pulling his tongue out of his mouth, speaking gruffly, his wolvish nature showing clearly with his possessive grip on his husband’s waist, something he knew his mate loved, “Regrettably, there’s no time for a bath, sweetheart but I don’t think taking things slow is what either of us had in mind, was it?” he smiled smugly at him.
The animgaus groaned at the growl in his toan, “Nope, not tonight, darling.” he replied, kissing his throat, making sure to leave marks, knowing despite he hated his scars, if he could bruise the area up enough to hide the scars, it made his husband ridiculously happy.
Remus smiled as he picked his husband up in his arms, “Then I’m taking you upstairs, we’ll lie on the bed and we’ll get started, my love.” there was a growl in his tone.
“Oh Merlin, why is everything you say with that growl so fucking sexy?” Sirius asked, a moan in his tone already, even though the wolf had done nothing but kiss him yet.
Remus rumbled into his ear, “I’m well aware of that, my lovely mate.” he kissed his temple, holding him in a bridal style hold and carrying him up the stairs, making his husband bark out a laugh, wrapping his arms around his neck, kissing him hungrily as they went up the stairs.
When they were in their bedroom, Remus threw him down on the bed, where he uncorked the potion, grabbed a tube of lube, and made sure his starry named mate was well loved, and well sated, like he always did. With a few cleaning spells, Remus grabbed some washcloths and wiped them down as well, kissing his husband’s face, telling him he loved him, noticing that the shorter man was crying, so he took him in his arms as he cuddled him close.
Sirius buried his face in his bare chest, choking out between sobs, “When…when I was…Hogwarts… Bella…Bella told me no one would…would love me enough to stick around…to…to have a…family with…”
The werewolf rubbed soothing circles into his back as he peppered soft kisses to the exposed jaw he could reach behind his husband’s curls, “Well, like everything else she ranted on about, she was wrong. I love you. I’m staying, for forever, and where the hell is she? Stuck in a loveless marriage someplace.” he soothed him, knowing Snape had uttered similar things to him out of spite, after they had mercilessly pranked the now Potions Master. Although he regretted the extent they bullied him to, he wouldn’t go back and change it, Snape was still a right bastard.
He sniffled, pressing an affectionate kiss to his husband’s chin, “I love you too, so fucking much, darling and I…I want to have a family with you, I know we have little Harry, but he’s Prongs’ son, we’re just his supportive gay uncles.” he added with a little humour.
Remus rumbled into his ear, “I won’t lie to you Sirius, I can’t wait to have a cub all our own, Merlin knows we’ve been thinking about it for awhile…but actually accomplishing that? Thank you for helping me to obtain that, sweetheart. …And I know why you’re carrying the baby, but it’s still very considerate of you.” he gave him a sweet peck on the forehead.
Sirius chuckled softly, “Yeah, I can see you getting more possessive too, and it’s not exactly deterring me, darling. It’s hot when you go all protective and want me all to yourself.” he winked, making his husband laugh softly, smiling at him, “We’d best go and collect our nephew, my sweet, lovely mate.” he nuzzled him gently. He nodded, pressing a kiss to his cheek, “Of course, love. …Do you remember where I put my shirt when we came up here?” he asked, passion having blurred his memory with his usual act first, think later way of living, which Remus knew all too well about, “On the left side of the bed, here, I need to repair the buttons.” he cast a reparo on the shirt, watching the buttons sew themselves back on as he got dressed.
Wrapping his arm around him, he kissed his cheek, so with a blink of surprise from Sirius, his husband Apparated the both of them to the Burrow to collect young Harry Potter from the home of his best friends.
When his uncles arrived to collect him, Harry was laughing raucously at one of the twins, Fred, he thought was doing a spot on impersonation of his mother being furious. Sirius knocked on the door, to which Molly opened with a small smile, “How did it go?” she asked, a look of knowing in her eyes.
Remus smiled as he held his husband’s hand, happy to know more of the Order knew his husband for who he was, “It went wonderfully, Molly. Thank you for keeping an eye on our nephew while we went there.”
Harry heard his voice and came bounded up to them, saying a quick farewell to his new friends, a different child to the painfully shy boy they had dropped here hours earlier, he greeted them both with excitement, “Hi Uncle ‘Rus, Hi Uncle Rem!” he had learned their names quickly enough or a six year old, but had been fondly told to use the nicknames.
The Animagus picked up the little boy, glad to see him more open and looking happy, as a kid should, “Hi squirt! Miss me?” he ruffled the boy’s hair, making him laugh loudly, resting his head on his uncle’s shoulder, “Of course! Molly said that you went to get a baby! Where is it? I want to see it! …Please.” he looked so excited, but remembered the manners Petunia had beaten into him.
Remus laughed softly and smiled, gently patting the little boy’s hair, “We don’t have it yet, fawn. We have to wait for it to magically appear inside your uncle Rus’ tummy.”
Harry looked inquisitive and grinned, “That’s so cool! I love magic.” Sirius chuckled softly, meaning what he said, “So do we, kiddo.” He looked to Molly, “Thank you for taking care of him, see you in a bit, yeah? No doubt we’ll be making play dates for these little troublemakers in the making.” he laughed happily, the barking sound of it making Remus smile at his husband’s happiness.
He turned to Molly, “I’ll talk to you again soon, Molly. Take care of yourself and give Arthur our best.”
She smiled warmly at him, “Of course, Remus! You, Sirius and Harry are welcome here at the Burrow.”
He smiled at her before he heard his husband calling him, “C’mon Moons!” He chuckled softly, nodding to Molly and walking outside where he Apparated his husband and nephew back to their home.
That night, using the diagnostic spell the witch at the desk had included in their potions script, he cast it on his lovely mate, concentrating hard while Sirius anxiously wrung his hands.
The werewolf kissed his cheek at the soft yellow light of life, like sunshine, "We did it, Pads." he breathed out, kissing his lips deeply, holding him close.
Sirius kissed him back, holding on tight to his husband as they kissed, grinning ecstatically against his mouth, but when Remys parted tve kiss, he whispered, "I'm so happy! Thanks, darling."
The werewolf blinked, "Why are you thanking me? You're the one doing the hard work, sweetheart."
Sirius smirked at him, "Well yeah, but it takes two to tango, love and I couldn't have done it without you." he told him fondly.
Remus chuckled and helped him into bed, "I suppose you're right, and Dumbledore can piss off if he thinks you're not sharing my teachings quarters during the school term." he stubbornly told him, knowing he meant every word.
His husband missed his cheek, "Thanks love, because we're going to need to be near you, me and Harry, this little one when they're about." he smiled down at his stomach. They soon fell asleep after Remus assured him he'd always be close by.
A month or three passed in the blink of an eye, Harry was having a sleepover at the Burrow, leaving the old pranksters to spend time together while the younger ones got better at mischief-making.
Remus was making coffee for his husband, who was now pregnant with their little boy, which they had found out last week and wete very happy about. He put the coffee down on the bedside locker before laying down with him, “I bought you some coffee, my lovely mate.” he whispered in the dozing Animagus’ ear, causing him to be pulled down onto his side, too, causing him to hold his husband close, “I don’t want coffee just yet, I want cuddles from my handsome lycanthrope.” Sirius replied in a sleep-hazed voice, he’d been taking a nap.
Remus laughed softly and kissed his nose, thankful that his husband’s state of health was alright, he had a clean bill of gealth, having gone to a mind healer soon after leaving Azkaban as his husband had urged him to do. So, he looked after him and stayed there, simply snuggling him and sneakily stealing kisses here and there.
When Sirius woke from his nap, his stomach rumbled making them both laugh, Remus picking Jim up and carrying him to the kitchen.
