Chapter 13
Regulus was currently reading for his charms homework, as he laid on his bed, Dorcas laying on the other end “Wait Reg there's something I forgot to tell you actually” she said making Regulus look up curiously “Is it important? I'm very much behind on my homework” he asked her “Well yes, I would say it is very important in fact” she chuckled. He sighed, putting down his book “Fine, what is it then?” he asked her “Well it is not like i had not noticed it myself, but now it has definitely been confirmed. At the party this weekend, by the end you were talking to Barty, and I sat next to Potter. It was sort of pathetic actually” she chuckled “what was?” he sat up more “Well Potter was clearly drunk, and I am not sure what happened between the two of you. He was telling me and I quote `He is bloody perfect that's why. I mean how can a person be allowed to walk around, looking as gorgeous as him?` while in complete awe of you” she giggled making Regulus nearly choke on his own spit “No. Did he actually say that….?” he asked in disbelief. Even though James had told Regulus that he cared deeply for him, and very much had loved kissing him, this was a lot more than Regulus could handle “Yes he actually did. Now are you going to tell me what's going on with you two?” she asked, making his cheeks heat up “Well…”
Seeing as it was his 5th year, and his brother's 6th year at Hogwarts, it felt like all they were doing was partying. Regulus found himself once again drunk on the common room couch, as Dorcas was laughing a bit too much whenever Mckinnon would make a joke beside him. He was currently watching Barty play beer pong against Sirius, losing terribly. This was of course only because Sirius had more practice, Barty had explained.
Regulus turned his gaze towards the other end of the common room where Evan was sitting in a corner with James. He felt that familiar ache in his chest, immediately feeling annoyed. No matter how certain James could make him feel, Evan would swoop in and try to charm him again. Regulus was honestly a little upset with Evan because of this. Could he seriously not see how not interested James was in him? Of course there was also the fact that Barty was watching them as well, making Regulus resent Evan even more.
Regulus simply had enough, he knew Evan probably wasn't going to stop, but he could at least let James know the truth.
He walked over there simply grabbing his hand “Excuse me I need to borrow Potter for a second” He simply said, leaving Evan looking so offended. James gladly went with him, clearly also a bit drunk, as they were back under the main room “Everything alright love?” James asked him “No, I need to tell you something about Evan” he said sternly “Go on then” James simply smiled, leaning against the railing “At the start of the year, Evan announced to us that he thought it would be fun to trick you into getting seduced by him. This is why he was been desperatley flirting with you all year, and been absolutely insufferable” Regulus let his jealousy shine through just a tad too much, making James smile “Well, not gonna lie, I felt like something was up. It was very sudden that he started talking to me” he chuckled “So you're not mad about it?” Regulus asked “No, far from it actually. Evan approaching me so much, lead me to spending more time with you. So I am certainly not about to complain about that” he explained, making Regulus confused “Would you like me to get mad at him reg?” he smiled “No I just- No. Just felt like I should tell you is all” he crossed his arms. James chuckled, lightly uncrossing them, and pulling Regulus close to him “Do you realise how absolutely adorable you look when you're angry?” He smiled, making Regulus sigh annoyed “Oh shut up” he said “Alright” he said, and then simply kissed Regulus once again, making him feel like his knees might buckle.
James had always enjoyed studying with Lily. She helped him out with basically everything, and never ever made him feel dumb if he didnt understand something. This had been one of the reasons James had thought he fancied her, when she had simply just been sweet to him.
This was unfortunately not the case currently. They sat in the library, and Lily was rambling. She was explaining how she had been desperately trying to leave subtle hints to Mary, but nothing had happened “Lil, I know Mary very well. She needs you to literally shout it in her face to understand it, she is sort of clueless with this stuff, just like me actually” he explained “But you know I can't tell her. What if she just completely rejects me? We still have a whole year left, I think it would actually kill me” she sighed “Right, we still have a whole year left. Plenty of time for her to realise how great you are. Relax lil, everything is gonna work out just fine I can promise you that much” he chuckled. She just shook her head, looking back down into her book.
James looked up, clearly uninterested in his homework. Then Regulus was walking past. It felt like it was happening in slow motion to James. The way his curls sort of bounced as we walked, and the way he literally glared at anyone who looked his way, before smiling the second he sat down by his friends. James had found himself admiring him a lot like this recently. How could he not? Seeing as he couldn't go up and kiss him in the middle of the library, this was the next best thing.
“James, Merlin Sirius was right you really do completely disappear sometimes” Lily was waving her hand in front of his face, making him snap out of the fairytale in his head “Sorry, what were you saying?” he asked, turning to her “I was just explaining- wait who were you looking at?” she looked confused in the direction he had been staring in “Nobody I was just in my own thoughts” he lied “Bullshit, you had to have been looking at someone. But there's only- Oh god no. James please tell me you didn't” she gasped “what?” he asked slightly panicked “You were staring directly at Regulus! Please tell me you haven't been sneaking around with your best friends brother” she said, now incredibly serious “Well I- It's not like we have- Just please don't tell Sirius” he said, now fully panicked “Of course I am not that dumb. He is going to actually murder you. But seriously James? Out of everyone at Hogwarts?” she chuckled at his patheticness “Can't help it. He's just so…Hes just lovely” James confessed, letting his eyes drift towards Regulus once again “Merlin you are in deep”
James knew for sure that Lily would never tell a soul. But that didn't take away from the fact that James would eventually have to tell Sirius. He knew it would be terrible, a bloodbath.
The only thing that made James feel just a little better, was the fact that Sirius himself was currently in love. He was so head over heels for Remus, that maybe he might not even care that much.
No.
He definitely would care. Oh god he was actually going to get killed.
Maybe if James just explained it to him. Tried to tell him how he was just as pathetic for Regulus, as Sirius had been for Remus at first. Maybe he might understand, once he knew that James really meant it.
