What is in a name?
It started out innocent enough. Just a question.
"I never did ask but what is your name?" asked Severus one day as he was studying for a History test (super easy though)
She paused, replying slowly, "I don't think I've ever been asked that. Nor have I ever been given one."
Severus's head shot right up and stared at her, "I would have thought being Slytherin's familiar, he would have given you a name."
She shook her massive head, "No, no he did not. Why I do not know but, we called each other nicknames or used Parseltongue. Godric called me Basil a few times, but I nipped his arse for that. Even Helga and Rowena just gave me nicknames. Mostly it was names with Sss. Ssarah, Ssaphire, Sssuzy (Godric did that one), Ssephora, Ssephira, etc."
"We should give you a name. Something befitting you and your station to the school and Founders." said Severus as he closed his book and placed it in his bag
"Oh, don't worry about it child. I am happy as it is." she said nosing a roll of parchment to him.
"If you say so." Severus said hugging her muzzle tightly in goodbye.
As he left the Chambers he had some research to do, for names are important.
----RESEARCH----
It was a holiday weekend and he had managed to ask Lily if she would send him some of her muggle books to him at the school. He regrets asking. By owl post came a box filled with books, movies, musicals, music etc. Shrunk of course, as in the letter she sent there was another wizard getting books at the bookstore who was kind enough to help her.
Severus took to reading........
He would go down to the Chambers with a new list of names for her during the weekend. Also bringing the music and movies for them both to watch at their leisure.
The Lord of the Rings was their best series he thought. She loved the story and the languages a man just made up.
Then more classics came as the days turned to weeks and soon it was getting to Christmas.
They had read, Frankenstein, Black Beauty, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Pride and Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe, Phantom of the Opera, The Scarlet Letter, and more classic books and some newer ones. Movies were the issue and it turned out that he could not make them work in the Chamber or the school...yet. So, he had to send them back as soon as he found out. In Lily's reply she told him they would work on it together. And also go to the theater to watch them. Music was the same story as there was nothing to play the vinyl on in the school. Lily and Severus were disappointed. So was the Basilisk to be honest.
A new list was drawn up just a few days before the Christmas holidays.
Since the Basilisk seemed to enjoy the Lord of the Rings the most he decided to make the names like it or hopefully his translation would work.

Lûgeth-snake/serpent
Baralinthel-gleam in the eyes
Branthel-noble/fine
Arahaelil-noble and wise
Now to see if she will like any of them.
