Chapter 6

May 2nd, 2003

Today marked the five year anniversary of the end of the second wizarding war. The following year after the war, as a way for Molly to cope, the Weasley’s would host a small celebration of life together at the burrow. Nothing big, just close friends and family. Jamie had reluctantly went to the first two but after it just got harder for her. All these years later, she still has yet to cope with the deaths of her friends and family. Especially Fred.

In the years past, Jamie would just work overtime to keep herself distracted. Charlie would try his best to get her to go, but between Andrei and her failure to be able to cope with anything that had happened to her that day, she'd much rather work herself to the bone than actually face her bottled up emotions.

This year she had no clue what she was going to do. Pansy had to go to Paris for a “fashion emergency” which Jamie didn't get but she also did not question it. So, Pansy wasn't home. Blaise had a quidditch match that day so he also wasn't around.

Jamie decided to try and keep herself distracted throughout the day. She tried reading a new book that she got. Didn’t work. She went to dig her baggie of weed out of her dresser but quickly realized that she had none left. She angrily threw a child sized tantrum, stomping her foot and throwing the plastic bag on the ground before storming back into the kitchen. Her inner Molly came out and she started baking cookies like they were going out of style. That helped distract her for a little bit, but then her anxiety started to take over and she started to clean the whole flat.

Anytime she got like this, she would clean things that didn't even need to be cleaned or started reorganizing random things of hers. The growing tightness in her chest grew more and more as the day went on. She didn't cry at all. She felt numb and utterly depressed all at the same time. She wanted to scream. All she wanted to do was to let it all out. But, her body wouldn't let her.

On and off through the day, Molly and Harry tried floo calling Jamie in hope that she would reconsider. She still refused, lying and saying she “just didn't feel good”.

By the time she was done cleaning the rest of the flat, she moved on to her room. At this point, it was already five pm.. She groaned to herself as she looked around her room and was reminded that she still had to take some stuff out of the boxes that were left and put them away.

She grabbed the box and set it down on her unmade bed and started opening it up. Her body froze when she saw the shoebox full of pictures that were from the last ten years. She was fighting with herself on whether or not she should even look through them. After a few minutes of consideration, she made herself comfortable on her bed and opened the box full of pictures.

For a while, she was laughing and smiling at the pictures of her and her friends. Birthdays, holidays, you name it. Her heart sank when she came across a picture of her, Fred, George and Ginny. It was always a running joke within the family that, even with Jamie being almost a whole year older than Ginny, and the obvious part of not being blood related, that they were the second set of twins in the Weasley family.

Tears started to roll down her face the longer she stared at the moving photo. Jamie was at least fifteen when the picture was taken. Both girls were hanging on the boy’s backs. Ginny on George’s and Jamie clinging to the back of Fred’s. They were all laughing and smiling. Jamie could actually see the bright colors in her eyes, which she hasn't seen in years.

The more she sifted through the pictures, the more she was unable to keep her emotions in. She eventually just ended up moving the pictures aside and cried. She clung to her pillow as she screamed into it. No amount of occlumency could shield her at this point. Her mind had enough. The more she lost it, the more she started to feel like she did in the girls lavatory all those years ago.

After what felt like hours, Jamie was able to calm down somewhat. She didn't move from her bed; she just laid there, staring blankly up at the ceiling. She jumped when she heard the floo go off. “I thought I locked that bloody thing.” She muttered to herself as she rolled out of bed to investigate. She grabbed her wand off of her end table. Logically, she knew she probably didn't need it. But the paranoid side of her mind told her otherwise.

She slowly crept down the hallway with her wand at the ready. “I have a gun and I’m not afraid to use it.” She announced before rounding the corner into the kitchen.

“Well, that's news to me that a witch would have a gun in her house.” Draco scoffed as he turned around. “What on earth are you doing?”

Jamie truly looked a mess. Her long red hair was falling out of her bun. She was still in gray sweats and a black tank top and her eyes were puffy and beet red. “You know a warning would be nice.” She sneered before shoving her wand into what was left of her bun. “What do you want, Malfoy?”

Draco nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders. “I figured you could use the company.”

Jamie furrowed her brows and slowly walked over to the dining table and sat caddy corner to Draco. “You know, if I wanted company I would've asked.” She retorted while crossing her arms and leaning back into the chair.

“Now, you and I both know you wouldn't have asked.”

Jamie shook  her head and rolled her eyes. “You didn't answer my question.”

“And you didn't answer mine, Potter.”

“I thought someone broke in.”

“And telling them that you have a gun when you don't was the best option to announce?”

Jamie shrugged her shoulders. “I mean, if I used the right spell, it would be the same difference.”

Draco chuckled at her comment. “Touche. Now,” He adjusted his chair to be fully facing Jamie. “What are you actually doing?”

“Literally nothing.”

“Then why is the island filled with racks of cookies?” Asked Draco as he peaked his head over Jamie’s to look at the island.

“It was a distraction, okay.” Jamie conceited. Throwing her head into her hands and leaning up against the table. “It's been a long day…”

“I know…” Draco responded. “Your mum called me.”

Jamie’s eyes looked like they were going to pop out of her head. “What- Why- You???”

“Don't act so shocked Potter. Believe it or not, I think your mother actually likes me.” He confidently boasted.

Jamie was grinning and laughing in disbelief. “Man, she's really getting desperate, huh?”

Draco rolled his eyes. “Hey, I can't help that I’m so charming.”

“Slow your roll, Malfoy. You're average at best.” Jamie teased.

“ANYWAYS,” Draco retorted. “Your very horrible lie didn't work.”

“So what? You're here to force me to go to the burrow and be a mess there? No thanks.” Jamie spat out. She was starting to get increasingly annoyed that everyone felt that she needed babysat 24/7.

“No, I’m not actually.”

“Then why are you here?”

Draco got up from the table and went over to the counter and grabbed a couple of cookies. “You said you baked all of these as a distraction?”

“Yes..” Jamie drawled out. “Since I don't have a job until further notice, I can't throw myself into twelve or eighteen hour shifts anymore.”

“Hm.” Draco sat back down at the table and slid Jamie a cookie that she started mindlessly picking at.

“Your point?”

They both sat in silence for a bit while Jamie waited for an answer. “I may have a solution to your problem.” Draco finally answered while popping the last of his treat into his mouth. “You need to go out and do something.”

Jamie snorted and groaned at Draco’s comment all at the same time. “Oh wow. I've never heard that before.” She retorted sarcastically. “What would I even do if I did go out and do something?”

“I don't know,” Draco shrugged his shoulders. “But we’ll figure it out.” He added while getting up out of his chair and walked over to Jamie.

“We? What do you mean we?” Jamie asked. She had an eyebrow raised and her arms were still crossed. “I’m not leaving this flat, Malfoy.”

“Oh yes you are, Potter.” He responded arrogantly while pulling Jamie up to her feet by her hands. “And you want to know why you're leaving this flat today?”

Jamie rolled her eyes as she fought against Draco pulling her arms. “Oh great one, please do tell me this oh so important reason?” She sarcastically begged.

Draco’s eyes hardened slightly before he responded. Jamie could feel his hand slightly squeeze hers before he caught himself. “Because I’m tired of watching my best friend slowly get consumed by her depressive episodes and continually push everyone who is trying to help away.”

Jamie knew he was right. He never had a problem calling Jamie out when she needed it and vice versa. She clenched her jaw and broke her gaze away from Draco. She also pulled her hands away from his and even still, his touch still set her skin on fire. “Fine.” She reluctantly agreed to let Draco take her do go do gods know what.

“Brilliant.” He whispered. The two of them noticed how close they were standing to one another. Draco didn't move as he looked down at Jamie. Jamie felt like her heart was climbing up her throat and she awkwardly took a step back. “Go get dressed and I’ll be out here waiting.”

“Fine.” Jamie repeated as she turned on her heels to head to her room. “But I'm not happy about it!” She shouted from behind her before she shut the door.

“I know because you have to make everything difficult for everyone!” Draco shouted back from the kitchen.

“I can't stand him.” She gritted through her teeth to herself. She walked over to her mirror to fix her half fallen out bun when she noticed how red her cheeks were. “Snap out of it. We ARE NOT doing this again.” She scolded to herself quietly before changing out of her gray sweatpants and into her jeans. She threw on her brown, knit cardigan that was hanging out of her dresser before leaving her room and heading into the bathroom.

“Good gods, witch! How long does it take you to get ready?” Draco jokingly shouted from the kitchen. “It's going to be dark by the time we leave!”

“I’ll take however long I fucking feel like, Mr. Malfoy!” Jamie shouted back while she tried to put some sort of makeup on her face. She usually doesn't even wear anything most of the time but, she did look like the living dead and really did not want to scare children. So, mascara and brown eyeshadow it is.

In actuality, she didn't even really take all that long. But to Draco it seemed like forever. “Potter??”

Jamie threw open the bathroom door and stormed out. “You know, I really feel bad for your future wife. Merlin forbid you two have plans to go do anything.” Jamie said.

“I waited forever.” Draco dramatically drawled out.

“It literally took me five minutes.” Jamie retorted back.

“Semantics,” Replied Draco. “Now, are you ready?”

“Do I have a choice?” Jamie deadpanned.

“Nope.” Draco answered arrogantly. He had a shite eating grin plastered across his face while Jamie scowled at him while muttering profanities to herself as they walked out the door.

To Jamie’s surprise, they apparated to a secluded part of Hyde Park. Luckily, it was pretty covered and there wasn't anyone in the area. “So, are you going to explain to me why you brought me here?” Jamie asked.

“What? We can't just go for a walk?” His sarcastic tone made Jamie roll her eyes and pinch the bridge of her nose.

“You know I’m not stupid. Out of anywhere you brought me to a muggle park in the middle of London.” Jamie retorted as they both started to walk along the trails.

“I know you're not stupid.” Draco said. “I think its just pretty here.”

“And I think you have ulterior motives.”

Draco scoffed as they continued to walk. “Well shite, you got me, Potter.” Jamie just shook her head and let out an exasperated sigh. “I'll tell you when we get there.”

“Or, you could just tell me now?” Jamie gave Draco unintentional puppy dog eyes as she looked up at him.

“You need to learn the act of patience.”

Jamie sighed again as the wonderland around the park. They walked in silence for a bit which wasn't a big deal. It was a familiar, comforting silence. After about ten minutes of walking, they stopped. “Why are we at Princess Di’s memorial?”

They started walking in silence again. Jamie looked at the ground while counting each of the floor markers they passed while she waited for an answer. “I think you and the late Princess have a lot in common.” Jamie just looked up at Draco with a very confused look on her face. “You both have a lot of demons in your past. A lot of bad things that you pushed through for years so that no one else had to suffer.”

Jamie did not respond. She clenched her jaw a little bit and continued to listen to Draco. “You both care for others so much that you forget to care for yourself.” Draco’s voice was so calm and comforting that Jamie didn't care about the point he was going to make. “Unfortunately, Diana didn't live long enough to see herself start to live a better life after trying to get away from the chaos.” He paused as he stopped and looked back down at her. “I don't think she would want to see someone like you falter when you are a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for.” Merlin, i hope i didnt fuck this up, Draco thought. He thought that this whole thing could one of two ways. Either he would finally get through to Jamie somewhat or she would get incredibly upset with him pushing the issue.

“For fucks sake, Malfoy..” Jamie sighed out while wiping her eyes. While on the outside he looked fine, Draco felt his stomach drop. “I’m sorry, it's incredibly stupid of me to-”

“You're doing it again.” Draco interrupted. “Did you just not listen to my entire monologue?”

Jamie laughed through her tears and took a deep breath. “No, I did. I’m just tired of crying.” As they walked, Jamie kept playing with her necklace as she kicked a little rock down the trail. “I just want to feel like me again, you know? I feel so stuck in the past that at this point, I don't know if there's any getting me out of it.”

“You know, I’m usually the pessimistic one. Not you.” Said Draco jokingly.

Jamie shrugged her shoulders. “You can thank four years of utter bullshite for that.” She was half joking, half serious and Draco caught that when her smile faltered a bit. “Well, you said your monologue.” Jamie huffed when they sat down. “What now?”

Both of them stopped in front of a pond and decided to sit down and muggle watch while they talked. Draco wandlessly casted a silencing charm around them just in case there were wandering ears. “I think that, if you're still not ready to spend the anniversary with your family, you should start your own tradition.” Jamie still could not understand how Draco would try to fix all her problems even though she hated it. The whole point of moving to Romania, besides getting her dream job, was to get away from everyone she cared about so that she didn't have to watch them worry and have to deal with her emotions.

“My tradition is throwing myself into the job that I love.”

“And your ‘tradition’ isn't even a tradition. It’s you continually occulading and pushing everything in your head into boxes and not thinking about it. Ever.”

“You know that I hate you right?”

“You're just mad because you know I’m right, Potter.”

Jamie rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. She hated the fact that he was right. She would never outwardly admit that Draco was right, but she knew it was true. “Alright. Fine. What would you suggest?” Jamie asked while pulling her cigarettes out of her bag. She stuck one between her lips while she dug through her bag to find a lighter. “Ah, there it is.” She mumbled to herself while she lit her cigarette.

“You know we have magic, right?” Draco asked while Jamie took a long drag.

“You know we are in public, right?” She mocked. “You want one?”

Draco nodded as Jamie handed him the pack and the lighter. “Really?”

Jamie threw her hands up and conceited. “Hey, don't blame me for when you get in trouble all for a simple flame spell.”

Draco completely ignored her comment and pondered on her previous question. “What is something you and Fred used to do together?”

Jamie took an unnecessary long drag from her cigarette. As she exhaled, her body almost seemed to be sinking into the bench. “Uh, I mean-” While she didn't like talking about Fred, she did sit and think about the stuff they did together growing up. “Most of the time when we were out shopping with mum or just us two, we would always go get ice cream. Even if it was cold out.”

Draco stayed quiet as he listened to Jamie ramble about Fred. He didn't mind though. He was just happy she was opening up about him. Even if it was just a little bit. “Usually mum would get mad at Fred for letting me eat so much sugar but he didn't care. He always made it a point, even when he graduated that at least once a month we would go and get ice cream.”

“Well, why don't you make that your new tradition.” Draco suggested. Little did Jamie know, Draco hadn't taken his eyes off of her. He was almost studying her. Like the way she tensed up when he brought up Fred, or the way her eyes lit up slightly when she was talking about the good memories. While he really tried to keep that friendship boundary set with her, he couldn't help but still have some sort of feelings for her. Even through both of them being in serious relationships that ended like train wrecks.

“I mean… It's not a TERRIBLE idea…” Jamie replied as she finished her cigarette and vanished it away. “That ice cream shop isn't open anymore though.”

“Does it have to be that specific shop?” Draco asked while also vanishing the last of his cigarette.

“No, I guess not.” Said Jamie. “They did have really good ice cream.” Jamie added very matter-of-factly

“Then that settles it.” He said while hitting his lap and getting up.

“Wait, what?”

“Let's go get ice cream.”

Jamie scoffed and grinned like he had just said the craziest thing ever. “Right now?”

“Yep.” Draco responded, extending his hand out for her. She reluctantly grabbed his hand as he pulled her up.

“Do you even know where you're going?” Jamie grumbled.

“Nope.” Draco smirked.

Jamie dramatically threw her head back and groaned as they continued to walk.

“At this rate we are going to be here all night, waiting for you to make a decision.” Draco griped while leaning against the glass that had all the different ice cream flavors.

“Hey, I’m not the one who dragged me out of my flat.” She said unbothered while intently looking through the flavors. “You can deal with it.” Jamie was very odd when it came to her sweets. It always had to be something specific, especially when it's ice cream. “I swear to Circe, if they don't- Ha!” Her eyes lit up when she found chocolate, chocolate cookie dough. “One scoop of that one please.” She asked the worker while smugly turning to Draco. “Always so impatient.”

Draco snorted as he got his vanilla ice cream. “You're one to talk, Potter.” Jamie shot him a dirty look as she went to go pull out her credit card before Draco promptly swatted her hand away and stepped in between her and the counter.

“Malfoy,” She gritted through her teeth.

“Hmm?” He answered back. He could feel her eyes burning a hole into the back of his head, and all he could do was smirk.”

“Thank you…” She mumbled as they walked out of the store. “But I could've gotten it..”

“I know.” Draco said. He still had a shite eating grin on his face as they both silently ate their ice cream. Draco noticed the more they walked and the more Jamie ate, her mood considerably changed to where she was humming and almost bouncing when she walked. This both made Draco happy and worried at the same time. “Is this the first thing you've eaten today?” He asked cooly.

“Uhhh, yeah.” She answered while shoving another spoonful into her mouth. “I just haven't felt like eating. I don't know.” She shrugged her shoulders. Draco gave her a worried look but she just shook her head and chuckled. “No, not that way. I promise im fine.” She reassured Draco. He was still skeptical but he decided to trust her and take her word for it.

“Alright. If you're sure.”

Jamie smiled and gave him a nod. “What do you wanna do now?” She asked while finishing her treat.

Before Draco could answer, Jamie stopped and turned her head. Draco raised a brow at her sudden concerned look. “What are you-”

“Shh!” She interrupted before she heard the high pitched crying again. She didn't say a word and turned down the alley that the noise was coming from. She knew it was an animal of sorts but she couldn't help herself to try and find it.

“Potter, what on earth are you-”

“SHH!” She hissed again before she turned around. The noise was getting louder the closer she got. She peaked around a skip to see a small, dirty white kitten that was now looking up at her, incessantly meowing at her. “Oh buddy..” She whispered, immediately extending her hand to pet the little creature. “You're just a small little thing, aren't you?” Jamie cooed as the kitten started purring and rubbing against her legs. Jamie forgot that Draco was behind her. He stayed silent but was not impressed with Jamie’s find.

“You need to put it back.” Draco groaned while pinching the bridge of his nose.

“Absolutely not!” She protested. “I think he’s trying to show me something.”

“It's a dirty little thing that needs to go back to its mother.” Draco just about put his foot in his mouth when the kitten walked behind the skip and Jamie saw another white cat, laying as still as a statue. Draco immediately regretted opening his mouth when he watched Jamie’s shoulders deflate and she sighed.

“Well that settles it, little one.” Jamie spoke to the kitten as she scooped him up without hesitation. She went to turn around to walk away but stopped. Draco didn't know she stopped as he walked out of the alley. Jamie paused and turned back around to the deceased mother cat. She checked her surroundings before she pulled her wand out and casted a Herbivicus Charm over her and her body was suddenly covered with a patch of white lilies. “I'm gonna take you home buddy. It's okay.” She cooed again. Since Jamie picked up the white puffball, he immediately started purring so loud that it vibrated Jamie’s hand as she held him.

Draco couldn't help but smirk at Jamie as she walked out. Even though he was still annoyed by her picking up the creature. Of course she would end up finding a fucking cat, he thought to himself as Jamie exited the alley. “You're really going to take that thing home, aren't you?”

After Draco asked that question, Jamie’s face lit up as a cheeky grin spread across her face. “Yes. And I figured out what we are doing next.” She didn't even bother to look at Draco. All of her attention was on the little kitten that she held in her hands.

He knew exactly where this was going. Even though he absolutely hated cats, he couldn't help but be in awe over how much this dirt covered, mangey little thing made her instantly happy. She was happy. ACTUALLY happy. “You know, Pans is going to kill you.” He teased. He was also half serious because Pansy was very particular about the flat.

“She'll get over it.” Jamie retorted with a shite eating grin.

“How did you find a fucking cat?!?!” Pansy interrogated while Jamie was giving the kitten a bath in the kitchen sink. Pansy was clearly annoyed at Jamie for bringing home a random animal. But, she couldn't help but stay next to Jamie as she washed the pitiful looking cotton ball that was losing his mind in the sink. “I mean look at the thing. It's aggressive.”

“Well yeah, Pans. Cats hate water. Obviously he's not going to be happy being wet.” Jamie quipped back. She kept wincing because the little monster was clawing the absolute shite out of her arms. “It’s okay buddy, we’re almost done.” She told him. The kitten looked up at Jamie and gave her the cat equivalent of a dirty look.

“I think it just understood you.” Pansy said.

“I think he might be part kneazle like Crookshanks.” Jamie added. She finally finished up with the cat and wrapped him up in a towel and went over to the couch and sat down in front of Draco. Who somehow got convinced to build the cat tree. He lost a bet with Jamie that Pansy wouldn't let her keep it. Yeah, Pansy didn't like animals in general but to her, if it kept Jamie occupied she didn't mind. “Look at how white he actually is now.” Jamie said while drying him off. “He kinda looks like you, Malfoy.” Jamie held up the cat and both the kitten and Draco gave each other very smug expressions. Draco was sulking trying to put the cat tree together the muggle way.

“Tell me how I got stuck doing this again?”

“Because you lost the bet.” Jamie laughed. “Plus, it's fun to watch you struggle.” She smirked while Draco droned on and on about how bloody stupid it is that they don't have a manual. (Little did Draco know, he threw the directions away ripping through the box to get all the pieces. Jamie and Pansy intentionally failed to inform him about that.)

Jamie casted a drying charm over the kitten. His fur immediately poofed up and he was fluffier than expected. “Okay, he's not THAT ugly.” Pansy stated while scratching the cant on his head. He immediately started to purr and push into her hand. “What are you going to name him, Jame?”

Jamie looked down at the kitten as he walked back and forth between Pansy and Jamie to get constant pets. “I like Murry.”

“Murry?!” Draco and Pansy questioned in unison. They both gave her contorted looks and she just chuckled. “What in the bloody hell would make you pick Murry?” Pansy asked.

“It’s just short for his full name.”

“Would you care to elaborate on that, love?” Draco asked blankly. Jamie’s heart damn near jumped into her throat. You know damn well he doesn't mean anything by it, dumbares, Jamie thought to herself before shifting uncomfortably.

“It's really stupid, but I think it fits..”

“Oh for Merlin’s sake. Jamie.” Pansy groaned while picking up the kitten and putting him in her lap. Draco thought it to be comical that in a span of a half hour, Pansy went from hating the thing to absolutely falling in love with it.

“Murry is short for Murder…” Jamie’s voice was just above a whisper and she was trying so hard not to laugh. “I mean come on, it fits! You know how many times he bit me already?” She added.

Pansy and Draco sat in silence as they exchanged odd looks to each other. “That really is stupid.” Draco replied. He slowly started to give up on the whole thing.

“But,” Pansy added. “It is fitting.”

“HAH!” Jamie exclaimed. Jumping up and pointing at Draco like they were children again. “See? Told you.” She added while bobbing her head. Draco just rolled his eyes as he got up off the floor and smoothed out his waistcoat on trousers.

“Well, I see you two are going to be preoccupied tonight. I will see myself out.”

“Oh come on Draco, you don't need to have a wand up your arse because Jamie doesn’t have your undivided attention anymore.” Pansy taunted. Jamie always had a terrible poker face so her face immediately started to blush. Draco’s eyes darkened towards Pansy who was just smirking and looking back and forth between him and Jamie. Jamie tried to keep her hands occupied by playing with Murry; refusing to make eye contact with either one of them.

“Goodnight, ladies.”

“You have a bet to follow through with!” Pansy shouted at Draco before he entered the floo. Jamie giggled and Draco rolled his eyes.

“I’d much rather get the dark mark all over again than try and put that thing together.”

“You know, maybe I should name him Draco.”

“And why is that, Potter?” Draco asked, pretending to be uninterested.

“Because you both are extremely dramatic.” Jamie smiled as she replied and Pansy couldn't help but burst out laughing.

“Goodnight!” Draco shouted before throwing floo powder.

Both witches sat there and giggled on the couch as the green flames overtook Draco and he disappeared. Jamie waved her wand over the unfinished cat tree and it finally took form. Murray immediately jumped off the couch and started to explore the flat.

“Fuck you by the way.” Jamie spat out.

“Me!? I'm the one who allowed you to keep the fuzzy little shite.” Pansy retorted as she curled up into the couch.

“You know what I mean…” Jamie replied back. She knew Pansy wasn't stupid but she wished that she would let up on the whole her and Draco thing.”

Pansy scoffed while Jamie shot her a look of disapproval. “Hey, I'm not the one who constantly checks him out and vice versa.” She added.

“I DO NOT!”

“YOU DO SO! I'M NOT STUPID!”

Jamie crossed her arms and dramatically sunk into the corner of the couch. For years Pansy was always on Jamie’s case about getting with Draco. She was both of their best friend’s and she wasn't dumb. Everyone could see the way they looked at each other. Especially eighth year when they both were practically glued at the hip. “Just… Please don't start pushing that again, okay? I don't like him that way and he definitely doesn't like me that way either.”

Pansy snorted at Jamie’s plea. “Fine. But I'm not blind. Neither is anyone else.”

Later that night, Jamie found out quickly how needed Murry was. He constantly had to be touching her in some capacity. Either trying to walk in between Jamie’s legs to have her undivided attention or completely vetoing that and would find his way up to Jamie’s shoulders to where he would make himself comfortable while she got ready for bed.

Jamie also learned how in-tuned he was to her already. She started to have another nightmare and before it could even get to the worst part of it, Murray was pawing at her face until she woke up. She was covered in sweat on panting hard but was able to ground herself quickly when Murry kept smacking her in the face with his paw. “Okay, okay Murry. I'm okay.” She quietly reassured him while gently pushing his paw away. Eventually, he cuddled up on her chest and started to purr. She smiled at the ball of white fuzz lazily sleeping on her chest before she, herself was able to peacefully fall back to sleep for the first time in months.
