"Young and Sweet, Only 17"
Thursday, October 28th - 5:29 pm.
(5:29) MOONNYYY GOOD MORNING!
(5:38) Good morning?
(5:39) Pick a color, Red or Green
(5:41) You do know it’s not morning right?
(5:42) Green
(5:42) Also why do I need to pick a color?
(5:43) Dammit you traitor… we're doing a prank.
(5:44) Wait, why am I a traitor? What’s this prank?
(5:50) Were pranking the Slytherins by dyeing everything one color, and I literally mean everything. Skin, walls, clothes, and books. We're gonna use a sticking charm that can’t be so easily removed. You, Mr. Moony, are a traitor because James and I couldn’t agree on a color. I was saying Red because of Gryffindor and James said Green because they’d see green so much they’d be sick of it. But knowing my dear family you could never be sick of Slytherin green.
(5:53) Oh I see. I still agree with green.
(5:54) Fine.
(5:56) Good luck with the prank.
(5:57) Don’t worry it will go by smoothly.
(5:58) Well then good luck with not getting caught.
(6:00) Don’t worry ;)
Friday, October 29th - 7:23 am.
(7:23) GOOD MORNING MOONPIE!!
(7:30) A BRIGHT DAY TODAY SHALL BE
(7:31) SUNS OUT
(7:31) LAUGHTER IN THE AIR
(7:32) How’d the prank go?
(7:33) A magician never shares his secrets.
(7:33) Alright fine.
(7:33) Just kidding my darling boy
(7:33) Never call me that again
(7:34) And why not?
(7:35) My mother calls me that, and it feels weird having someone else say it.
(7:36) Got it, pumpkin
(7:36) ANYWAYS
(7:36) Yes?
(7:38) Ok so the prank went spectacularly, our group went to breakfast early to see the reactions. It was amazing, everything was that hideous green.
(7:39) So you did go with green.
(7:40) We did, and I'll admit it, that was the best decision.
(7:41) Told you so.
(7:42) Uh Huh anyways, we arrive and everything's green, I mean EVERYTHING. But what was best was when people started arriving, the confusion on the faces of everyone. We were green so as to not stand out. The Slytherins however were the only ones not green.
(7:42) Wasn’t the whole idea to prank the Slytherins?
(7:46) YES! And the end result was better than anything we could of imagined.
(7:46) And that was?
(7:47) When the Slytherins walked in, and all the other people saw that they were the only ones unchanged, the other houses started yelling at them and blaming them for everything being green. So a huge fight broke out between the houses and Slytherin.
(7:50) Chaotic, I see why you believe this outcome to be the best.
(7:51) You know me so well Sweet Pea.
(7:52) Were you caught?
(7:55) Oh, I'm sure they know it was us, but have no proof of it.
(8:00) Good, the best masterminds, are the ones who aren’t caught
(8:01) ;)
(8:02) You know I just realized that you're still here.
(8:02) Something came up, and class was canceled.
(8:03) Everything alright?
(8:04) No idea, a message came in and then dad had to leave. Just as everyone was arriving too. We're all kinda huddled around doing whatever work we hadn’t done yet.
(8:10) I’ve always wondered, but how many people attend your little school?
(8:11) There’s four of us.
(8:13) Oh I thought there was more.
(8:14) Nope.
(8:37) What’s it like?
(9:01) Well, as I mentioned it's a small group, taught by my dad. He once held a ministry job and some of his old acquaintances from then will send things he can use to teach us.
(9:03) Your dad worked for the ministry?
(9:05) He did.
(9:10) What’d he do?
(9:13) Stuff here and there.
(9:20) Got it.
(12:00) I'm sorry, it's a sore subject.
(12:42) It’s alright, I was the one who asked anyway.
(6:47) Do you guys get detention at your school? Cause if you do that sucks.
(7:00) What’d you do this time?
(7:10) Rude of you to assume that I got detention.
(7:12) My bad.
(7:13) It was just a few words back and forth with another student.
(7:15) So I was right?
(7:15) …
(7:16) Yes.
(7:18) Thought so.
(7:19) You can wipe that smug look right off your face.
(7:20) Shouldn’t you be in detention?
(7:20) But it’s so boringgg
(7:23) Then maybe you shouldn’t have had “a few words back and forth”.
(7:23) :(
(7:24) Maybe I should go, the faster I get this done, the sooner I can be out of here.
(7:25) Sounds like a good idea, have fun.
(7:26) You know I won’t.
Saturday, October 30th - 12:12 pm.
(12:12) I know it’s late, but are you up?
(12:15) I’m also sorry if this wakes you.
(12:18) Everything alright?
(12:19) I’m sorry if you were sleeping.
(12:21) I wasn't, are you alright?
(12:27) My birthday is coming up.
(12:28) Really?
(12:30) Yeah, I'll be 17.
(12:33) That’s exciting
(12:34) I guess.
(12:36) Not a fan of birthdays?
(12:40) I’ll admit I am a fan of having a day about myself.
(12:43) The almighty Sirius enjoying a day about himself? absolute shocker.
(12:44) Haha, very funny.
(12:45) May I ask what's bothering you then?
(12:50) This time of year is not my favorite. I know Prongs’ family tries his best to make me happy, but sometimes I think I'm a burden to them.
(12:55) I know I don’t know the situation, but I’m certain you aren’t a burden.
(1:03) His family took me in last year; mine kicked me to the curb.
(1:07) I’m sorry that happened to you.
(1:10) Never liked them, my only regret is that I didn’t try more for my brother.
(1:11) I remember that you mentioned him before, is your relationship with him strained?
(1:13) Very much so. He hates me.
(1:14) I’m sorry
(1:18) Yeah..
(1:20) Anything I can do?
(1:24) What do you mean?
(1:25) For your birthday.
(1:27) There is something.
(1:38) What is it?
(1:50) Would you like to talk on the phone?
(2:00) Isn’t that what we're already doing?
(2:05) I mean like a phone call.
(2:08) Is that what you want?
(2:08) Yes.
(2:09) Okay.
(2:09) I mean if you're not comfortable I understand.
(2:10) Oh! Perfect ok.
(2:10) Padfoot
(2:13) Moony
(2:17) Goodnight.
(2:20) Technically it's good morning.
(2:24) Haha, goodnight Moony, thank you for listening to me.
(10:33) You never told me what day your birthday was.
(12:56) November 3rd
(1:12) Are you still okay with the phone call?
(1:37) Yes.
(2:03) Are you sure?
(2:12) Padfoot, If you don’t want to then we don’t have to. But if you want to I’m here, just say the word.
(2:15) I want to.
(2:16) Then my time is yours.
(2:38) Pumpkin pie, you're so sweet to me.
(2:40) Pumpkin pie does sound good right now.
(2:44) I don’t think I’ve had it. But I can’t imagine it being too different than pumpkin juice.
(2:50) I much prefer the pie.
(2:53) Then I'll put it on my list to try it.
(2:54) My mum makes it seasonal in her bakery, I think she makes it best.
(2:55) Try Remus’ mum’s pumpkin pie added to things to do.
(3:00) I could send some to Marlene for you guys, I know she loves it too.
(3:10) I’d rather try it in person, that way I can greet the mother of the boy I fancy.
(3:33) I’m sorry If saying that was wrong.
(3:42) Remus?
(3:50) It’s okay, she’d love to meet you.
(3:53) And I’d love to meet you.
(4:00) Yeah
(4:02) Yeah?
(4:03) Yeah.
(4:06) Ok.
(9:23) Goodnight Padfoot.
(9:57) Goodnight Moony.
Sunday, October 31st - 12:00 am.
(12:00) HAPPY HALLOWEEN
(12:01) TODAY SHALL BE GLORIOUS
(7:03) Good morning Padfoot.
(7:13) YOU HAVE ALREADY WASTED 7 HOURS OF THE BEST DAY EVER!
(7:15) Are you telling me you’ve been up this entire time?
(7:21) …
(7:15) Thought so.
(7:16) ANYWAYS
(7:20) WHAT ARE YOUR HALLOWEEN PLANS?
(7:23) Going to watch horror movies with some others later.
(7:32) You like horror?
(7:35) Not really, they bore me.
(7:37) More like you're a scaredy cat.
(7:40) That's an assumption.
(7:43) I BET IT'S THE CORRECT ONE
(7:50) Sure Padfoot, sure.
(7:58) What about you, what are your plans for the day?
(8:03) A PARTY!
(8:05) Exciting
(8:09) I KNOW RIGHT
(8:13) Have you ever been to a party?
(8:14) I’ll be honest, you don’t seem the party type.
(8:17) Assumptions
(8:21) So you like them?
(8:24) Oh merlin no, I hate them.
(8:24) Doesn’t mean I haven’t been to a few.
(8:30) Well I wish you were here to attend mine.
(8:31) Wouldn’t that be something?
(8:34) It really would.
(8:41) Sorry I’ve gotta go, for now, talk to you later.
(8:50) Have fun Padfoot.
(9:07) You too Moony.
Monday, November 1st - 12:38 am.
(12:38) Resitisg the urge to send you a photo of myself
(12:40) I look so hot rn
(3:50) Oh really now?
(7:15) Why are you always up at such ungodly hours?
(7:30) It just happens.
(7:33) I’ve got an awful headache, so I'm getting off my phone.
(7:34) Also probably gonna skip class and sleep.
(7:50) Hope you feel better later.
(7:55) And if you do sleep, I hope you dream of good things.
(7:55) Oh buttercup, you're always so sweet.
(7:59) I’ve got no idea where you come up with all these names.
(8:00) A magician never shares his secret.
(8:01) I’m guessing you're looking them up.
(8:10) A magician never shares his secret.
(8:13) Your ridiculous
(8:15) ;)
Tuesday, November 2nd - 11:30 am.
(11:30) Good morning Moony!
(12:43) Good afternoon Padfoot.
(8:38) Goodnight Padfoot.
(10:17) Goodnight Moony.
(10:58) Are you still good for tomorrow?
(11:50) I am.
Wednesday, November 3rd - 12:00 am.
(12:00) Young and Sweet, Only 17!
(12:00) Happy Birthday Sirius!
(8:02) OH MOONYKINS!
(8:03) THANK YOU!
(8:19) What time are you thinking for the call?
(8:23) You still want to?
(8:30) Padfoot?
(8:31) Moony?
(8:35) No need to keep asking, I assure you that I will be there.
(8:47) Okay.
(8:50) Putting away my phone before I get into any more trouble.
(8:52) Have a fun, studious day Remus!
(10:15) I never answered your question, I apologize. I am free whenever you are.
(4:36) I am free whenever now too.
(4:42) OH MOONY I MISSED YOU
(5:01) I wasn’t even gone long.
(5:03) BUT IT FELT LIKE EONS
(5:10) You’re always so dramatic
(5:13) It’s my middle name
(5:14) If you say so.
(5:17) Are you free now?
(5:18) Just a moment.
(5:18) Okay.
(6:23) Sorry, I’m ready now.
(6:34) I’m here.
(6:35) Okay.
If Sirius was going, to be honest, he was nervous. The boy on the other side of the phone always seemed distant, but at the same time, he couldn’t deny that the two of them were closer than they were from the beginning. I can’t believe it's already been a month, He thought.
Sirius’ heart was racing with nerves, all day, even the days leading up to this. He couldn’t have helped the consistent asking about whether or not Remus was still okay with what they were doing.
Then he got to his dormitory, James promised to keep away while he was on the phone, and that he would keep Peter busy as well. With a quick message to Remus, Sirius sat on his bed, a ball of anxious energy. He sat on the bed, then got up and walked around; back and forth, and then back to sitting. This went on a few rounds till ten minutes later he finally got a message back from Remus.
“Shit, am I supposed to call him or am I supposed to wait for him to call me.” This was answered for him when his phone began to ring. Sirius had half expected to throw his phone out of his hands-he almost did as well.
It felt like his heart would explode like he could feel the drumming in his ears. He swiped to answer and there had been a moment of silence, neither boy said a word. The silence, although awkward, was also somehow comforting. There had been times in the last month when Sirius thought he had made the entire thing up. This phone call proved to him that it was real, and that was a comfort in itself.
“Happy Birthday Sirius,” Remus was the first to break the silence, and Sirius was grateful for this. But the sound of that welsh accent, and the way he had said his name; did nothing to help Sirius’ nerves.
“Thank you, Remus,” Sirius swore he heard a slight chuckle over the phone. It was silent again but at least this time the awkwardness from before felt as if it had left and wouldn’t come back.
He heard Remus sigh over the phone, another moment of silence, and then that voice came back, Merlin, if I knew I had a thing for accents. “I know that this is,” Remus paused again, and Sirius wished he hadn’t, he could have listened to that voice speak for hours. “...Sort of out of the blue, but I kind of prepared something for you?”
“Kind of?”
“Yeah,”
The smile Sirius had, grew wider. “I’d love to know what this ‘something’ could be.” In truth, this took him by surprise, he had only asked about the phone call; not anything else. But at the same time, he couldn’t deny that this made him ecstatic that there was more.
There was ruffling and movement on the other end of the phone, and Sirius patiently waited for what was to come. “Okay, it was kind of last minute but I thought that maybe I could put something together,” Remus told him, and very quietly there was the faint sound of a guitar being plucked on the other end; Sirius sucked in a breath while Remus continued, “It isn’t going to be perfect, but I think it’ll sound at least halfway decent?”
“Moony,”
“Padfoot,”
Sirius let out the breath he was holding, “Just do it.”
Instead of responding, the strumming of the guitar could be heard. It had only taken a few notes for Sirius to recognize the song he was being played, Dancing Queen, and quietly he hummed along. He remembered that Remus had told him he was an ABBA fan, something which Sirius had adored.
And then Remus did something even more surprising, “Friday Night and the lights are low,” he sang and Sirius didn’t know the voice on the other side could sound even more beautiful.
The smile on Sirius’ face grew wider as the song went on, his cheeks felt warm as they adorned a bright hue. “You are the dancing queen,” he felt as if he could cry, no one had done something so sweet for him, “Young and Sweet.” Remus’s voice had gone a little quieter as he said the last line, and Sirius couldn’t help but whisper along the lyric, “Only Seventeen.”
The song had finished after a few more notes, and then Remus said, “Happy Birthday Sirius, hope this helped make it a good one,”
“Oh Moonykins, you are just the sweetest,” Sirius softly thanked him, and he meant it, the song had been like no other gift he had before. The gesture made him feel special, made him feel seen as if Remus knew exactly what would make his heart melt.
They stayed on the phone for the next few hours talking while Remus strummed his guitar. Sirius was in absolute bliss, making tonight a birthday he’d always remember. Eventually, he had fallen asleep to the music and for the first time in a while, he slept well.
(11:08) Goodnight Sirius, dream of good things.
