Alex was gay, and she loved being gay. But it wasn’t so fun when every sophomore in her school either already had a girlfriend or was straight, until she met Emily.
It was fifth period and she was walking around debating whether to go to her next class or not when it started raining. She hurried into the bathroom, pulling her hood up over her brunette hair to avoid getting her bangs wet. Adjusting her bangs, she looked in the mirror and noticed a girl sitting on her backpack in the corner.
She didn’t think much of it, but she noticed the way the girl's eyes occasionally flit up from her phone and run over her body. Damn, is she checking me out or planning to jump me. She didn’t know the girl, but most people that skipped class like that at her school were probably smoking weed on the daily and were all too happy to start a fight.
But her question was answered when the bell rang, and Alex decided she would, in fact, head to class. She pulled her hood back up (so much for fixing my bangs) and basically started speedwalking to bio. She hated getting wet. But she was stopped by a voice behind her. “Hey! Um . . .”.
Alex turned around to see the girl from the bathroom standing there. Her black hair was drenched and ran down to her mid-back, and she was smiling nervously yet confidently at the same time. “Do you like girls?”
Shit this girl is bold, she ran after me to ask me that? Alex couldn’t help but think that the girl in front of her was the cutest girl she’d ever seen. “Yeah, I do,” she replied nonchalantly, “Do I look gay?”
She smiled such a genuine smile, that Alex felt her mouth turn upwards, smirking down at her. Alex wasn’t that much taller, but the girl looked to be 5’4 and she was 5’7. “Yeah, you do,” she replied, echoing Alex’s response.
“Good,” Alex replied simply.
“Soo, can I get your number?” she asked.
Alex felt her heart skip a beat. This was too good to be true. A cute girl, with (and Alex hated herself for noticing this) a huge ass, was asking for her number without even knowing her name. “Yeah, sure,” she said, keeping her cool.
She watched the girl fumble with her phone and then hand it to her, looking like she couldn’t believe this was happening either. Alex put in her number and her name, and handed back the phone. Then she stood there as the girl stared at the new name in her contacts as if Alex had given her a million bucks. A girls number actually would be worth a million bucks in my book, Alex considered in her head.
That was when she noticed just how wet her hoodie was starting to get and remembered they were still standing in the pouring rain. She took a step towards her class, causing the girl to look back up at her. “Text me,” Alex said, smirking, as she turned around and walked away and the girls eyes went wide.
I am good, she thought, excited to get to know the cute and oh-so-very interesting girl that had entered her life.
