Chapter 7
(Raynes P.O.V. for the last chapter)
“hello ma’am did you need anything extra?”
The woman bristles as if she’s about the throw a punch, rage prominent in her eyes as her face grows hot with anger. “NO WHY WOULD I?! You have given me the wrong order I asked for an iced black coffee not a hot black coffee! It’s gone and spilt on my hand look! I AM BURNT BECAUSE OF YOU!!” As she keeps rattling on about the coffee, both girls fail to notice the witch enter. Feeling like she’s close to tears Rayne takes a step back ready to bolt into the open storeroom as the madam comes to the counter and towers over the woman forcing her to listen to her as she yells at her actions towards myself.
The fear in the air is so thick it could be cut by a knife customers flee out the door, their food and drinks left littered on the tables, Rayne can hardly move as she watches the interaction eyes still watering, she feels like if she goes and dries them the madam will disappear, and the woman’s anger will be directed at herself again with no way to stop her. By the time the woman flees it feels as if she can let go of a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding in, watching cautiously as the madam goes to the door and leaves to the storeroom as she is instructed to.
Rayne collapses on the nearest chair sobs quietly wrack at her chest not able to come out of her, for her first time closing by herself she’s done a terrible job and wouldn’t be surprised if she’s fired for it, she had burnt a customer for heavens sake! While her mind runs circles reminding her of how she’ll get fired, her parents will be disappointed, her sibling will have that look on their face like they expected something great along with the way she’ll have to beg for forgiveness to the god worshipped in her parents shrine.
The madam walks over to her and nudges her leg with a hair brush a silent offer to which she nods to grateful for the act she listens carefully to the madams instructions for her hair as her mind slows and the pressure from her chest leaves. She’ll have to pay thanks to the madam, she might talk to her parents about inviting her over for dinner as gratitude.
Clearing the abandoned drinks and food of the tables is something she does often but to think the reason she’s doing it this time is because they left in fear settles like a stone at the back of her head, but the madam helps, Rayne notices the wariness in her bones, and she begins to hurry so the madam can take a rest that by the looks of it she’ll need. As she flips the sign around thanking the witch for her actions both move on from the event weary with tiredness, she gets a message from Ms Visha by the end of the day hoping she’s alright and that the madam had filled her in on what happened and if she needs to close the store or take a few days off she’s free to do so.
The night fell as Rayne was walking home, Deputies that woman had said she’ll call the deputies on madam. Sighing as she walked in, “welp I guess only time will tell if she’ll uphold that.”
