The Beginning
Amaya Potter hails from a family known for taking in strays, after all she was the first. Amaya Potter was born Amaya Leighton, on a summer day in 2000, she came into the world kicking and screaming, and she's still the same.
When Amaya was three she was adopted by the Potters. Amaya doesn't remember anything before being placed with the Potters and they don't talk about her birth parents. Amaya hated James at first, he was hyper and quick to anger and yet somehow always happy. It wasn't until she was thirteen and experienced James first bout of low mania that she started to understand her brother. James Potter is bipolar, and Amaya never loved her brother more than when she found out, because Amaya Potter is also bipolar. Amaya spent two years being her brother's favorite person at home, until James was sixteen and suddenly his best friend Sirius was on their doorstep covered in blood and bruises and barely conscious. Amaya took one look at Sirius and immediately called her father Fleamont to go and get her best friend Regulus. Amaya Potter and Regulus Black were unexpected best friends, two people couldn't be more different. Amaya was sunshine and wildflowers, while Regulus was starlight and libraries full of banned materials, and yet they took to each other like a moth to a flame. While James and Sirius are made of the same stardust, Amaya and Regulus shared a soul. Carved from the same stone, poured from the same cup. You couldn't separate the two if you tried and several people have.
When Monty arrived home with a shaken Regulus in tow, Amaya had no idea it would set her and her brother's future into motion. It took a few weeks for the house to settle again, with four children instead of two. A lot of fights between Regulus and Sirius ended with Euphemia forcing the brothers into therapy and Amaya and James picking up the pieces respectfully.
Throughout the years the Potter house saw many faces, knew many names and while the children no longer live there they still travel home when they can to have a meal with Effie and Monty. Regulus and Monty will disappear into the library and discuss the newest books they've read, Amaya and James will take to the sun room to decompress with tea from Effie, and Effie will take Sirius into the living room and read new lyrics he's come up with. More people join often than not, Sirius and Regulus' cousins often visit. James band mates take up the garage like they did in their teen years. Amaya and Regulus will act out classic scenes for an audience of their friends or James' friends. Throughout the years all of their lives have stayed intricately intertwined, but now in 2022 Amaya will be forced to spend a year away from James when she hasn't known a year without him since she was three.
This is the tale of that year and it all starts with a party.
