Everyone is learning

Ron was wide awake in bed. He groaned rolling back over; no matter how hard he tried he just couldn't sleep. He was worried about Isadora as he knew that she was sleeping in the Slytherin dorms.

The professors had given a stern talking to everyone about bullying but he knew that was unlikely to stop anything.

He tossed and turned trying to get comfy when he heard a whisper from outside his curtain, "Ron?"

He paused before responding, "Yeah,"

"Can you not get to sleep?"

"Nope," groaned Ron,"

"My neither," he paused, "Can I ask you a question?""

Yeah but come over here so we don't wake the others," Ron whispered. He heard Harry's feet gently thud on the hard floorboards. He quickly pulled up his duvet hiding his chest. He knew it was still barely noticeable as it has only started developing a year ago but he was still rather self conscious.

Harry clambered onto the end of Ron's bed, wrapping a blanket around him to keep warm.

"It's about Draco Isadora," Harry started quickly corrected himself.

"Yeah what about her?" Ron asked feeling slightly defensive.

"I get that you two are friends and I'm sorry if I've been a bit of a twat about it. She just didn't give a great first impression and seems a little stuck up. I'll try and get to know her a little better for your sake,"

"Thanks mate, I really appreciate it," Ron replied feeling relieved.

They both sat in silence and Harry was trying his best to work out how he wanted to word his question.

"I understand that Isadora wants to be a girl but I don't really understand it. Like what does that mean? I've never heard of transgender before. How does it work, how do people just change gender?" Harry asked all his questions flooding out at once.

Ron listened trying to remember everything he has just been asked. He thought about it for a second before replying and going careful not to let slip that he was trans himself as he wasn't quite ready to share that.

"Well she doesn't want to be a girl she just is one. She was born male and for her entire life everyone told her she was a boy and treated her like a boy. On the inside though she knew she was a girl. That's how her brain felt. She felt awful whenever someone called her a boy it felt wrong but when people started rendering to her as she and a girl it made her feel so much happier. It just felt right. Like that's who she was destined to be.

Ron realised he had started going on a little tangent and was more referring to how he felt so he paused and then decided to just say one last thing, "Izzy described it to me by saying that she had a female brain but a male body. She thinks and feels like a girl but her body just doesn't match,"

Harry had been sitting quietly listening and nodded, "that makes a lot more sense now,  thanks Ron,"

"No problem, glad to have helped,"

They sat whispering for a little longer about random stuff before Harry tiptoed back to bed and they both fell asleep

In the morning Harry, Ron and Hermione walked down to breakfast together hoping to meet up with Isadora liked planned. They were a little early so they all sat down and started eating. Ron kept glancing at the door every time someone walked in but it was never Izzy.

"It's alright she will be here. I bet she just overslept," Hermione said trying to be of some comfort to Ron but she was deeply worried herself.

After a bit more waiting, Ron couldn't take it anymore.

"I'm going to go find her something isn't right," he told the others as he got up from the table.

He walked straight out the great hall and then realised he wasn't entirely sure where the Slytherin common room was. He knew it was somewhere in the dungeon but that wasn't a whole lot to go off of.

He headed for the stairs and started going down trying to get to the dungeons. Just as he was walking down a set of stairs he looked over and saw Izzy. He sighed with relief and then realised he was now going in the wrong direction. He started to run back up the stairs and met Izzy at the top.

"Hey, you ok?" She asked. Izzy was stood next to an older Slytherin student. Ron reckoned about year 5 or 6 but he wasn't sure.

"Yeah we were just worried about you. You hadn't shown up so I went to find you,"

How," sneered the older student, "Do you even know where the Slytherin common room is?" She asked smirking.

"It doesn't matter I would of found her," Ron said crossing his arms and taking an immediate disliking to this student.

"I'm Celeste, Celeste Seaton. You must be Ron," she looked him up and down, "Iz told me about you," she looked over and smiled at Isadora

"Anyway I'm starving so I'm going to the great hall," and with that Celeste sauntered down the corridor to the hall.

"Who is she?" Ron asked with a hint of disgust behind his voice.

"They are my friend. They looked out for me and stood up for me,"

"They?" Ron asked raising his eyebrows

"Yeah they. Celeste uses they/them pronouns. Like how I use she and you use he. Look they even gave me a book on different identities in the LGBT community to look through," she smiled proudly half pulling it out of her bag to show Ron.

"The what community?" Ron asked completely baffled.

"Come on let's go eat and I'll tell you all about it later," she laughed and grabbed Ron practically pulling him down the corridor.

Finally it was break time and Ron met Izzy and sat down by the lake. Hermione had gone to the library to check out a book and Harry had gone to Hagrid's as he'd been invited for a drink.

"So what's this lbtg thingy you were talking about?" Ron asked inquisitively.

"LGBT! Well Celeste was telling me all about it. There's a whole community for people like us. For people who don't quite fit what society calls the 'normal'. Anyone who isn't hetrosexual or cisgender."

"Hetro what?" Ron asked looking bamboozled. He had never heard of any of these words before. He knew he was trans but that's because he had heard the word from his brothers. All of this was new and was completely overwhelming him. He felt a little stupid that he didn't know any of it. He hoped Izzy didn't think he was stupid.

Izzy just chuckled, "Here's the book it might help explain it better," she got the book out and passed it over.

They both sat and Ron read a bit of it. Finally everything started making a bit more sense. He thought it was cool that there were loads of people out there part of this community. He didn't care too much but it was interesting. He just wanted to make Izzy happy he thought to himself because she's a good friend.
