Chapter 3

It was well into the night and the celebration party was still going on when Regulus quietly slipped away and made his way up to the astronomy tower. The halls were deserted and dark, Regulus used lumos as he climbed up stairs, he was secretly glad it was so dark, than it would be easier to see the star, he was planning to just watch the stars for abit and than go back down to the party and pray no one noticed he was gone, but as he rounded the corner of the staircase he was surprised to see Potter sitting by the railings staring up at the dark sky, his face illuminated by the light of the crescent moon. Regulus was about to turn back when James looked behind him and saw Regulus.

“Oh, Reg” he started “ come sit” Potter finished patting the space next to him. Anxiously Regulus slowly moved towards him

“It’s Regulus” he mumbled as he sat next to him.

“Oh okay, sorry Regulus”

He apologized? “Okay” thought Regulus “Maybe he isn’t the biggest douche bag in the world”.

“Why are you here? Didn’t really have you down as somone who like stargazing.” Regulus asked.

“What did you have me down as?”

“A overly arrogant quidditch player, whose hair never seems to stay flat.” replied Regulus whilst shrugging his shoulders.

“Oh wow, that was quick, you’ve done your research ”

And at that a light blush bloomed on his face, hoping he didn’t mean the times he’s accidentally stared at him for a couple of minutes too long, or how he over-analyzed every single thing about him since Regulus was 11.

Finally looking over at Potter he tried again “Why are you here?”

"Wanted to look at the stars" James replied whilst messing with his hair, for some reason he made it sound more like a question than anything.

After a couple of minutes James broke the silence,

“I can feel you shooting daggers into the side of my head,” James mutters

"wish I could shoot actual daggers into the side of your head.”

A snort came from James due to his remark, and Regulus feels himself grin a bit.

“Charming, aren’t you?” James teases, and Regulus moved his foot to the side a bit and stomps on James’ toe, causing him to yelp. “Why must you be so mean to me all the time? God.”

He shrugged “I don’t really know. Probably because your a very easy person to be mean to.”

Their hands were very close together one small move and their fingers would be touching, Regulus couldn’t breathe, not with James potter that close to him looking that good. Regulus moved ever so slightly away from him, for his mental sanity.

“Where are you reg-ulus?” James asked with a smile

“Im right next to you? Idiot” He mumbled back, at that Potter let out a small giggle,

“No in the sky, Dumbass” James said through laughter, Regulus looked over at him giggling, and he outstretched his arm to point to a cluster of stars over to the right of James.

“That one is me”

“Which one? Theres like seventeen there?” Regulus got up and slowly moved behind James and pointed again

“That one, the second brightest in the sky”

Soon the topic strayed from the stars and into other things like the new really nosey librarian that dumbledore just hired. Minutes became hours and the small talk drafted in and out. Their conversation grew short as the dawn broke, and before regulus knew it he was saying goodbye to James and found himself smiling as he walked back to his dorm.
