Chapter 1
It was grey and raining, which definitely wasn’t unusual for Scotland but still it made Regulus sad, his days had grown gloomy ever since Sirius left. Contrary to popular belief he wasn’t surprised that Sirius left, he always looked so happy with his friends and so, not sad but bored with Regulus.
Maybe he was being bitter but so be it, he had a right to be bitter, one night after a big fight with their mother, Sirius knocked on his door and told him he was leaving and he had asked Regulus to come with him, maybe he should've, maybe things would've turned out differently.
Sure he thought about it, about what could've been, but he wasn't brave at least not brave enough to leave Grimmauld place, that's why Siri got sorted into Gryffindor and he didn't.
Regulus remembered the summer after Sirius's first year. Sirius spent the entire time talking about his friends and the fun times they had, it would be a lie to say Regulus wasn't at least a little bit jealous, but Sirius was almost certain Regulus was going to be also sorted into Gryffindor.
"The hat would be stupid not to put you in Gryffindor brother of mine" he had said
Regulus was too hopeful, too hopeful that the hat was going to put him into Gryffindor and him and Sirius would be best of friends once again
I suppose that was stupid, for against his brother praying for him to be put in Gryffindor the hat put him in Slytherin... The brother who was always with him for anything looked at him with pure disappointment.
Regulus knew then nothing would ever be the same between them, the long talks whilst watching the stars wouldn't happen anymore, sneaking into the kitchen in the middle of the night to bake all the while their mother and father slept, as regulus sat at the Slytherin table he watched as sirius was comforted by his friends. and as regulus looked around at everyone eating and talking with old friends regulus knew he was destined to be alone.
And then there was Potter, or "Prongs" as Sirius kept calling him, he was the bane of his existence, everything was about him, he hated him.
Of course when Sirius ran away he knew exactly where he went, but when his parents asked him where his brother was, Regulus did something very brave indeed.
He lied
His brother deserved the moon, the sun and the stars so if he needed to get away from the cruelness of the black family then Regulus would pretend, pretend that his leaving didn't hurt in the slightest, that he didn't secretly send letters to the boy he hates to make sure Sirius was alright.
“Stupid potter, always having to ruin everything” mumbled Regulus to no one as he wiped the small amount of moisture in his eyes, he was sitting on a windowsill reading some random spell book he picked up, a cup of ever growing cold tea sat next to him.
Just then his roommate Barty crouch walked in, Barty was alright I suppose, a bit arrogant at times and almost always very cocky, but he was one of the closest friend regulus had, barring Pandora of course. Regulus and Pandora were to sides of the same coin, practically glued at the hip. “Dora not here today reg?” asked Barty, Regulus looked up at where barty was standing, “Nah, She has this DADA test thing” he respond whilst shaking his head.
Slowly nodding battery moved towards his bed, “ have you eaten today reg?” after a moment of silence barty grabbed regulus hand and pulled him out of their dorm to the kitchens.
----------------------------
Down in the Kitchens the house elves greeted them with smiles, and one stepped forward to regulus
"master regulus, Poppy is glad to see you again sir!" Regulus smiled " oh poppy please just call me regulus"
"Very well mast- regulus, what would you like?" Poppy corrected herself " The usual?"
"yes please poppy, thank you very much"
As she rushed around to get his order barty and regulus sat themselves down at a nearby table and less than a minute later poppy came back with a sandwich and hot cup of tea. They talked and talked for hours and hours.
The tea had soon grown cold and the leftover sandwich warm, after more time passed they slowly made their way up to the dorm, whilst passing a window Regulus saw a very strange sight, a black shaggy dog run out of the forest and behind hagrids hut, a small white dot followed it , and then a deer no a stag followed both of the in to the light of the full moon.
